I agree with this. I've only seen privacy locks (deadbolts) in hotels. Never in a residential bedroom. How so? Not if it was a simple lock like most have on their bathroom or bedroom door that usually has a button or a little button you turn. You then just leave and pull the door shut and it is locked. A 4 and 1 year old aren't gong to get through that. An adult could take a coat hanger and do so, etc. but the kids wouldn't be able to.
If it's fact, I think it is that kind of lock, just a simple lock on a doorknob.
Yes exactly. A typical basic knob lock isn't all that unusual and I think that's what it likely was. There's no hint either any windows were in or out.I agree with this. I've only seen privacy locks (deadbolts) in hotels. Never in a residential bedroom.
I have a lock with a key on my bedroom door and I can lock it and shut it.Also, household privacy locks lock from the inside of the room. Not the outside, so it would be whomever was inside the room that locked it. So if he was the one that locked the door, then he would have went out a window from that room.
The lock I have isn’t a deadbolt. It’s just a lock that you can use a key to open.I agree with this. I've only seen privacy locks (deadbolts) in hotels. Never in a residential bedroom.
It would seem unlikely it was a deadbolt or that he would have the key. I think it likely just a knob turn lock or some such. He couldn't have known the door, the key, etc. imo to plan for such but most knobs do have a minor lock. The lock I have isn’t a deadbolt. It’s just a lock that you can use a key to open.
Can you lock your door while it's open and close it behind you? All my bedroom, bathroom, and exterior doors work like that. The lock I have isn’t a deadbolt. It’s just a lock that you can use a key to open.
yes, i think based on what is known, it is very unlikely he went out a window. most locks on interior doors if any are just those simple ones, you engage it and pull it shut. or they have no lock, the simplest of door knobs. for the heck of it, i just went and checked my bedroom door and at first i thought it had none but then realized it had the type you push in the knob and turn. i've never had a reason to use it so i honestly after all these years have never looked to see if it had one. i don't want to lock myself out and have no reason to lock myself in. then i checked the bathroom, no reason to ever use that either. same. Can you lock your door while it's open and close it behind you? All my bedroom, bathroom, and exterior doors work like that.
We were disagreeing with the idea if the door was locked, the perp had to lock himself in and crawl out through a window.
Yes, I can close it and lock it behind me. I don’t have to crawl through any windows! Can you lock your door while it's open and close it behind you? All my bedroom, bathroom, and exterior doors work like that.

Every bedroom and bathroom door in any house I have ever lived in has privacy locks.I agree with this. I've only seen privacy locks (deadbolts) in hotels. Never in a residential bedroom.
Mine don't allow that. Must have been too many kids locking themselves out of their rooms and nobody in the house knew how to unlock them or something similar or it could be the brand..Yes, I can close it and lock it behind me. I don’t have to crawl through any windows!
That's flat out weird to me. Never seen a home like that and I have owned, rented and lived in many. A child can lock themselves in from a parent?? In their bedroom?? Boy I would not like that.Every bedroom and bathroom door in any house I have ever lived in has privacy locks.
You can not lock ours and shut the door after you lock them. You can only lock them while the door is shut.

Yes. Every bedroom and bathroom in every house I've ever lived in had one on them.An example of a typical interior door knob lock. You turn it and can lock from inside OR pull door shut on leaving and then it will be locked from outside. I think this is likely what he did and then simply left through a door. Probably the back door.
This would keep small children from getting in. A push button lock works the same.

Well maybe that's a more recent safeguard or something but this was a newer home.Yes. Every bedroom and bathroom in every house I've ever lived in had one on them.
Mine you have to be on the locked side. If I try to lock it and then shut the door, the latch is stuck out and you can not shut the door.
Security systems and locks are only good if they are actually used. We have no idea how security minded they were. Just because people have them, many don't use them. There are also ways to bypass many personal security systems. If he was determined enough, he could do his research.Well maybe that's a more recent safeguard or something but this was a newer home.
It seems most here are more familiar with the ones you can turn and shut the door locked after turning it. These and the push buttons are not hard to disengage with a wire hanger if you do it accidentally.
As I said, I just don't see him going out a window. There were so many cameras in the area and the Tepes themselves had a security system allegedly.
It is still debatable about how he got in as well. I really hope we find that out but maybe they don't know either, I guess we will find out.
I'm just saying if he used a window I'd think they would know or do you think he slid an upper story window open and shut it behind him? Very unlikely I think.
