Mariah Woods homicide trial postponed, no word on new date

What was scheduled to take place in February 2021 has now been forced into limbo as the Mariah Woods homicide trial was postponed.

Onslow County District Attorney Ernie Lee said in an email to The Daily News that due to COVID-19 issues, the trial is being rescheduled.

Mariah Woods was zipped inside a couch cushion filled with cement, 3-year-old’s autopsy says

Three-year-old Mariah Kay Woods was reported missing from her Jacksonville home in November, a few days after Thanksgiving.

It was cold that night — near freezing. Mariah’s family went to bed at about 8 p.m. on Nov. 26 and that’s the last time they say they saw the little girl.

The next morning, the live-in boyfriend of Mariah’s mom, Kristy Woods, reported Mariah missing. An Amber Alert was issued.

On Dec. 2, the Fayetteville Police Department found Mariah’s body in a creek along Shaw Highway in Pender County.

Mariah died of chloroform toxicity, according to the autopsy conducted by Dr. Karen Kelly.

Her body was found inside a plaid, zippered couch cushion cover. Solid cement was inside, the autopsy said. Mariah’s body was wrapped in trash bags that were tied around her neck.

Mariah had bruises and scrapes on her face, the autopsy said.

There was no physical evidence to indicate Mariah had been sexually assaulted, the autopsy said.

You know, they had better start getting something figured out. Our justice system was backed up enough before Covid and BY NOW they should be able to have adjusted to all of this even if they have to put off SMALL court cases to handle these BIG ONES. We are going to be so darned backed up that justice will come to a halt and it already seems to have in many cases.

Trial in death of Mariah Woods delayed until 2022

The trial of the man accused of murdering an Onlsow County toddler has now been delayed until March 21, 2022 after a hearing Wednesday morning.

The delay comes because Kimrey’s defense team is busy preparing for another murder trial. Defense attorney Wally Paramore noted that it would be “impossible” to effectively work two murder cases at once. He also mentioned the passing of his mother recently attributed to his inability to perform effective litigation on both cases.

Onslow County Sheriff Hans Miller, responded to the judges ruling saying that while he feels the best decision was made ultimately there is some frustration as the delays in the trial keep piling up, and “as time goes on sometimes memories fade.”

ONSLOW COUNTY, N.C. (WITN/Gray News) - A man charged with murdering a 3-year-old North Carolina girl pleaded guilty and was sentenced to life in prison without parole.

Adolphus Earl Kimrey pleaded guilty Monday afternoon to first-degree murder and felony child abuse in the 2017 death of 3-year-old Mariah Woods. He was Mariah’s mother’s live-in boyfriend at the time of the toddler’s disappearance, which sparked a massive search effort, WITN reports.

The plea was part of a plea deal in which the state agreed to take the death penalty off the table. Prosecutors said in 2018 they would seek the death penalty against Kimrey if he was convicted.

And AGAIN! Plea deal. WTF?!!! What he did to this precious little girl he should have gotten death. Just horrific.

I'm completely unfamiliar with this case. Looking at the date. It was 19 days after my mom's surgery. So that's probably why. I wasn't keeping up with the news then.
