Dad beat autistic son Joe Clyde Daniels to death, hid his body in remote area: affidavit

Violent details have been released in the murder of 5-year-old Joe Clyde Daniels.

According to an affidavit, Joe's father, Joseph Ray Daniels, confessed to police that he beat his non-verbal, autistic son to death at their Dickson home on April 4.

Daniels told police that he "struck his son...repeatedly in the body, upper torso, head, and face with closed-fist until his son was deceased," the affidavit says.

Young Joe Clyde died at his residence along Garners Creek Road. Daniels told authorities he put the kindergartner's body in the truck of his car and "disposed" of his son's body in a remote, rural area. As of Monday morning, Joe Clyde's body still hasn't been found after authorities searched through the weekend.

Daniels called 911 to report his son missing.

Joseph Daniels pens letter claiming Joe Clyde was killed by his mother

The father of Joe Clyde Daniels, Joseph Daniels, confessed to killing the 5-year-old autistic boy, but he's now pointing the finger at someone else - his wife, Krystal Daniels.

It's one of a couple of new developments in the case. Joseph Daniels is currently charged with homicide in the death of his son -- mostly based on a confession that Joseph has since recanted.

Judge re-instates gag order in Joe Daniels trial

The judge presiding over the trial of Joe Daniels is re-instating the gag order in the case.

Dickson County Circuit Court Clerk Office’s confirmed on Friday that the gag order had been put back on the case over the murder of 5-year-old Joe Clyde. That means attorneys cannot talk publicly about the case outside of the courtroom.

Joseph Daniels’ confession admissible in trial next week, judge rules

A judge ruled that Joseph Daniels’ confession is admissible in his trial that’s scheduled to start next week in Dickson County.

Dickson County Circuit Court Judge David Wolfe ruled Friday that Daniels’ confession, which Daniels has since recanted and says was coerced, can be admitted in trial and heard by the jury so long as the district attorney's office can provide enough evidence to corroborate the confession during the trial.

“The question of whether that’s a false confession or not, is the jury question,” Wolfe said.

Jury selection to begin next week in ‘Baby Joe’ trial

Jury selection is scheduled to begin next week ahead of the trial for Joseph Daniels, the Dickson County man charged with killing his five-year-old son, Joe Clyde Daniels.

Members will be selected from Hamilton County beginning June 1 in an attempt to find jurors who are not familiar with the case.

The trial for Joseph Daniels will be held in Dickson County and is expected to begin June 3 if an impartial jury can be seated by then.

As jury selection gets underway in Joe Clyde Daniels murder trial, NewsChannel 5 has learned that Baby Joe's older brother, who was eight years old when his brother went missing, will likely be called as a witness during his father's murder trial.

The night that Joe Clyde went missing, he was sleeping in the same bed as his older brother, who is now 11 years old. NewsChannel 5's Nick Beres reports that when investigators initially spoke to the older brother, his answers didn't make a lot of sense. But now, we're told, his memory has gotten better and recently shared new details about what happened that night to investigators.

Dr. Freeman says that's to be expected because his brain is still developing. "With children, it may take some time for them to develop the skills to communicate what they experienced," he said.

‘Baby Joe’ trial to begin Thursday in Dickson County

The trial for Joseph Daniels, the Dickson County man charged with killing his five-year-old son Joe Clyde, will begin Thursday afternoon, according to Daniels’ attorney.

Jake Lockert, the public defender representing Joseph Daniels told News 2 that 12 jurors and four alternates were chosen from a pool in Hamilton County, a selection process that began Tuesday and concluded Wednesday afternoon.

The trial for Joseph Daniels will be held in Dickson County and could last for two weeks. Opening statements are expected to begin at 1 p.m. Thursday.

VERY interested in this trial. But I won't be able to follow live much at all. If anyone finds anyone covering the case in detail on Twitter or anything, please share. (Don't have to post all of their tweets or anything; a link to their page would be fine so I can catch up in the evenings.)

Thank you, @kdg411 !!!
The reporters you linked above have been very helpful in catching up!

https://twitter.com/ChrisDavisMMJ seems to be the most thorough, at least so far.

Full day 1 recap with an interesting statement I didn't see mentioned via Twitter.

He [Joseph] also didn’t believe Joe Clyde was his biological son.

“You’re going to hear that the defendant called his son “that boy”,” says district attorney Ray Crouch.
