Three missing girls in Wenatchee found dead, father still missing

Three missing girls in the Wenatchee area were found dead, according to the Wenatchee Police Department.

According to the police department, police responded to reports of a civil complaint when the mom of three young girls reported that her daughters did not return after a planned visitation with their father.

Police said Decker was believed to be living out of a white 2017 GMC Sierra pickup, which was last seen heading west on Highway 2 from Wenatchee on May 30.

WSP was contacted Friday night for an Amber Alert request, but Wenatchee Police said it did not meet the required criteria, and an Endangered Missing Person Alert was issued.

Law enforcement eventually found Decker's car unoccupied near the Rock Island Campground.

Other officers searched the immediate area and found the bodies of the three missing girls.

Decker is wanted for three counts of first-degree murder and first-degree kidnapping. Police do not know if Decker is currently armed, but he may still pose a significant risk, according to police.

Whether this was him or not, I still lean towards him being alive. Of course I don't know, but that's what I think. He didn't kill himself after killing his kids.

Of course I don't know the area as you do but wasn't he like 500 miles away? Maybe he thought it was safer. I think it was his dad who said he has cached food and other things in the past, maybe he is running low.

I watched someone who took the info this info and what is known of him and he gave a number of reasons. Of course he isn't going to stay out from cover when at night they are using heat seeking equipment

I don't know if this was him or not but I do think he is likely alive.

Search for Travis Decker in Idaho ends after lookalike hiker found and cleared

Authorities have ended their search for triple homicide suspect Travis Decker in Idaho’s Sawtooth National Forest after identifying and interviewing a man who was mistakenly believed to be the fugitive.

On Wednesday afternoon, members of the U.S. Marshals Service Greater Idaho Fugitive Task Force located the man who had been spotted by multiple campers over the Fourth of July weekend in the Bear Creek area.

He matched Decker’s general appearance—similar height, build, dark features, a beard, and visible tattoos on his arm and calf—but was not Decker.

So he's been "sighted" in one of the most popular backpacking locations in Washington, and one of the most popular backpacking location in Idaho.
If you're trying to stay hidden, you're not going to go traipsing across the most popular wildland destinations in the northwest.

He was "sighted" in the Enchantments and they had him "penned in" on June 10. The sawtooths are nearly 400 miles away, as the crow flies, and across several major rivers and interstates. 16+ miles a day (in a straight line). Not impossible for someone in shape for hiking through rugged mountain wilderness, and then almost desert-like, and then back to rugged mountains. But extremely unlikely. Unless he hitchhiked. And then, why go back into the wilderness?

Glad people are still aware and keeping an eye out. But I'd be beyond shocked if it was him.
I’m glad you know the areas and can explain it to us. I don’t think it was him, either. Do we know how many Caylee Anthony sightings were called in? I don’t remember offhand, but it was at least hundreds.

yeah this morning just real quick while i was doing something while getting ready for a dr appt i stopped and watched a min but i totally misheard.... so for hours i thought he was caught.... got home all excited but, big nothingburger

I'm seeing a lot about it just now and I think a lot of news is just finally catching up after the 4th of July.

New video reveals Travis Decker’s demeanor 3 days before daughters' disappearance

Newly released video and witness interviews may provide more insights into the mental state of wanted murder suspect Travis Decker, accused of killing his three daughters at a campsite outside Leavenworth in June.

A 19 minute and 41 second dash cam video from the Wenatchee Police Department shows Decker interacting with a police officer and another motorist after Decker slammed into a car at a red light on North Miller Street in Wenatchee on May 27.

Three days later, Decker disappeared with his three young daughters who were later found murdered.

KING 5 obtained the video and other records through a public records request to Wenatchee police.

The driver who Decker hit declined an on-camera interview, but said Decker was “nervous and fidgety” and “kept telling me not to call police.” When told he had to report the accident he said Decker “looked almost intimidating to me.” He said Decker didn’t say anything threatening, but it was more his “body language," the driver said.

On the video, Decker can be seen with his arms crossed, leaning up against his truck and resting on the truck bed looking exhausted.

“I could tell he was not in his full senses,” the other driver said, noting Decker’s odd questions and answers.

KING 5 reported in June that Decker was involved in two auto collisions three weeks apart and that, along with court records about his “mental health”, could be evidence of the former Army Ranger’s mental deterioration. In court records, his ex-wife’s attorney warned a judge that Decker was living out of his truck and questioned his ability to provide a safe place for his three children to visit.

Records just released by the Wenatchee Police Department include a brief accident report filed on May 4 by a couple whose Honda CRV was “rear ended by a truck (and the) truck continued on.” The couple tailed the truck and got a license plate number. Wenatchee police traced the truck to Decker, but did not pursue the case at the victims' request.

In a phone call with KING 5, the man said there was no visible damage to his vehicle. He said he was unaware that Decker was the suspect until informed by the TV station.

In the May 27 crash, the dash cam video ends with Decker extending his hand for an uncomfortable, nine-second long handshake with the crash victim. The victim tried to pull his hand away, but Decker kept asking him if he was going to be OK. “He did get a full grip of my hand,” the man said.

ID man mistaken for WA triple-murder suspect Travis Decker tells all

What began as a routine camping trip for Nick quickly escalated into a startling case of mistaken identity when he was confused for triple-murder suspect Travis Decker, who is wanted in connection with the deaths of his three daughters in Washington.

Federal authorities in Idaho launched a search in the Sawtooth National Forest after a family reported seeing a man who resembled Decker. Nick was that man.

Nick spoke with FOX 13 Seattle and recounted the bizarre sequence of events that led to law enforcement showing up at his office.

Nick first learned of the manhunt Monday morning after returning from a camping trip. A friend who had been with him sent a news article via text, saying, "We were in camp with a murderer, there is a manhunt happening right now."

At that point, Nick said he assumed they had simply been in proximity to a killer.

"No, I assumed that we spent the night with a triple or quadruple murderer, I've lost count at this point, they vary," Nick said. "And the best information I have was the current news articles as of Monday morning and they were still developing. So our thoughts were, holy cow, that was a close one. I'm glad we didn't meet the guy."

The description of the suspect, however, began to hit closer to home. It included gage earrings, a beard and arm tattoos. Nick has all three.

It wasn't until Tuesday that the gravity of the situation fully dawned on him.

"On Tuesday, there was more detail and some updates to these news articles and it described a man's appearance and down to almost every article of clothing and the location and the time," Nick explained. "I mean the campsite we were in was named, it wasn't like this area, it was the Bear Creek Transfer Camp. I started wondering, and we all kind of got a laugh, but also an eye-raising moment there. They're actually looking for me, aren't they? It wasn't until Tuesday that I knew."

Nick first called the local ranger station Tuesday, leaving a voicemail. He then tried a national number, speaking with someone in Washington D.C., driven by the knowledge that resources were being used searching for him when he wasn't the suspect.

On Wednesday, after learning authorities were now looking for his friend's van, Nick called the ranger station again and reached a person.

"I told her what was going on. She said,'Oh, wow, that's not good. Let me get your info and I will forward it to law enforcement,'" Nick recounted. "And they called me within the hour. And then within an hour of that, they showed up at my office."

When authorities arrived, Nick said they conducted a thorough interview.

"They had very pointed questions about exactly where. I mean, like zooming in on an aerial map and pointing this place, that place, what time, during which day, what were we doing, who was with me, what did you do in the morning, what did you do when you may have been sighted, what did you do after the sighting," Nick said. "They took detailed photos of my tattoos. They asked for the make and model of the vans I was wearing, which are now apparently quite infamous."

Nick acknowledged some similarities to the description of Decker.

"We share a hair color, I suppose," he said. "Part of it was because he was described, I keep wearing the hat for interviews. You're only my second interview. I'm not out there a lot, but I've worn the hat on purpose because it's the hat I was spotted in that was part of the description. We have a similar beard color. I decided just to quit shaving for a year because I had nothing better to do. So the beard was described as overgrown. I do have small pencil-sized black gage earrings. I did have a light-colored shirt on. I had a black day pack. So on paper, I really did fit the description. We're the same height, same weight. I had sunglasses on the whole time. So you couldn't really see my eyes or half of my face really."

@SheWhoMustNotBeNamed do you think they’ll have a better chance of finding possible remains out there after summer? Or will the falling foliage cover up remains? You have a much better idea of the terrain out there than I do.

I mean…a little. But much like Oregon, it stays pretty dense all year. Late fall / early winter would likely be the best shot, but it’s still hard.
IF he was actually trying to be “on the run” and surviving out there, there’s a better chance of someone coming across him. But IF he walked away from that truck with the intention to get “lost” and stay hidden (maybe even with a tarp or other means of concealment), chances are extremely low.
