AMBER Alert issued after 9-year-old boy with autism abducted from SW Miami-Dade store

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement has issued an AMBER Alert for a 9-year-old boy with autism who has been abducted from the parking lot of a Southwest Miami-Dade Home Depot.

Miami-Dade Police responded to the scene along the 15000 block of Southwest 88th Street just before 9 p.m., Thursday.

According to a store employee, the abductors crashed into the mother’s car and took off with the child, who has been identified as Alejandro Ripley.

Investigators added that Alejandro has a scar on his left leg and is non-verbal.

FDLE said he was abducted by two men driving a light blue sedan.

7News cameras captured multiple police cruisers outside of the store, and a helicopter could be heard flying over the scene.

Police have blocked off the parking lot’s entrances and exits, and they are not letting people leave or enter the area.

Alejandro Ripley’s Mother Pleads Not Guilty To Drowning Autistic Son In Canal

Lawyers for Miami mother, Patricia Ripley, pleaded not guilty on Friday to charges she pushed her 9-year-old son with autism into a canal to drown.

At a virtual arraignment, prosecutors filed a “notice of intent” to seek an indictment of first-degree murder because they are still waiting for a grand jury to reconvene due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Under Florida law, only someone who is indicted by a grand jury can receive the death penalty.

Prosecutors also revealed Ripley is facing charges of attempted murder, kidnapping, aggravated child abuse and filing a false police report.

Mother accused of drowning autistic son enters plea of not guilty

The coronavirus pandemic has stalled a number of cases including the one of the mother accused of drowning her 9-year-old autistic son.

Cases like Patricia Ripley’s have been put on standby as far as a grand jury returning an indictment or not returning one at all because of the hold on in-court proceedings due to coronavirus.

On Friday, a quick arraignment in Miami-Dade County Court had Ripley’s attorney telling the judge that her client would enter a plea of not guilty.

“For the record, I will enter a plea of not guilty and demand discovery,” Ripley’s lawyer, Susy Ribero-Ayala, said on her behalf during a video conference. Ripley did not appear at the arraignment.

Miami-Dade State Attorney Katherine Fernandez Rundle said during the arraignment that her office filed a notice to seek an indictment on count one, which would be murder in the first degree. Ripley could face the death penalty.

Wow, the death penalty. This is the woman isn't it that tried once, someone saved him, and she did it again and was seen on video no less? I think she lied and said someone took him from her in her car... If I recall, this case was one of the first of the rash of autism deaths we have seen since.

Interrogation Tapes Show Police Questioning Mom Accused of Drowning Autistic Son

The Miami-Dade mother who faces the death penalty in the murder of her 9-year-old son was questioned for hours by police after she reported the child as missing to authorities.

NBC 6 obtained Patricia Ripley's interrogation tapes, which reveal the alleged lies she told police as a desperate search for Alejandro Ripley was underway.

“Alejandro is a smart kid. He points,” Ripley said when asked to describe her son, who lived with autism.

Detectives brought Ripley in for questioning after she reported the child missing back in May. An AMBER Alert was issued after the mom told police two men who had cut her off, robbed her and abducted her son.

After police said she gave conflicting statements, Ripley sat in an interrogation room for hours.

Ripley detailed to detectives what she did in the hours and minutes before she said she last saw her boy.

The footage of the interrogation stretched from late morning to early evening. Most of the time the mother was left waiting alone.

She was also seen and heard sobbing several times when detectives walked out of the room.

Tax Dollars To Help Defend Miami Mom Patricia Ripley, Accused Of Drowning Autistic Son

Taxpayer dollars will help cover the defense costs for a Miami mother charged with first-degree murder in the drowning death of her autistic 9-year-old son.

Miami-Dade Circuit Judge Daryl Trawick ruled in an order released Thursday that Patricia Ripley, 46, is indigent for certain costs that include depositions, private investigators and experts who specialize in trying to keep defendants off Florida’s Death Row, the Miami Herald reported.

Similar death penalty cases have cost hundreds of thousands of dollars in experts, investigators and other expenses.

Prosecutors objected, pointing out that her family owns an expensive home in South Florida and land in the Dominican Republic.

Ripley is still currently responsible for paying the $300,000 being charged by her private defense lawyers. If the judge finds her indigent for attorney fees, she’ll be represented by the Miami-Dade Public Defender’s Office.

This angers me! The Miami-Dade Public Defender's office is already under investigtion in the trial for the Nubia Barahona murder from 2011 which still hasn't gone to trial. In this case the public defender was removed due to allegations of overcharging expenses. Sorry, rant over.

Trial Date Set for Miami-Dade Mom Accused of Drowning Autistic Son

At a brief hearing Wednesday, the judge in the case set an Oct. 24 trial date start, after Ripley's attorney and a prosecutor said they hadn't come to an agreement on a plea deal in the case.

I get so disgusted with this system and this sh*t.

Death penalty discussed again for mom accused of drowning autistic son in 2020

State attorneys once again mentioned the death penalty could be on the table for a Kendall woman caught on video allegedly pushing her son into a lake in 2020.

Even though it was mentioned Tuesday that state attorneys are willing to work with Patricia Ripley's defense attorneys to come up with a plea deal, so far no details of a potential offer have been released.

Earlier this year, Ripley got a new judge assigned to her case. Ripley has a tentative trial date of August 26, 2024.

Prosecutors are willing to work a deal?? This woman DESERVES THE DP if anyone does and there is NO QUESTION OF PROOF here of her heinous and evil act.

IF they are talking the DP to get her to take life that isn't the worst thing but it better be no less and I don't even agree with that. WHAT JURY WOULD FIND THIS WOMAN INNOCENT??!! TRY HER WITH THE DP.
