AMBER Alert issued after 9-year-old boy with autism abducted from SW Miami-Dade store

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement has issued an AMBER Alert for a 9-year-old boy with autism who has been abducted from the parking lot of a Southwest Miami-Dade Home Depot.

Miami-Dade Police responded to the scene along the 15000 block of Southwest 88th Street just before 9 p.m., Thursday.

According to a store employee, the abductors crashed into the mother’s car and took off with the child, who has been identified as Alejandro Ripley.

Investigators added that Alejandro has a scar on his left leg and is non-verbal.

FDLE said he was abducted by two men driving a light blue sedan.

7News cameras captured multiple police cruisers outside of the store, and a helicopter could be heard flying over the scene.

Police have blocked off the parking lot’s entrances and exits, and they are not letting people leave or enter the area.

Man, I am just seeing this today. As someone said above, I think we all saw it coming. I just don't get where perps come up with these stupid far fetched stories in a day and age of so many cameras, etc. as well. RIP child.

yes. I go around and just assume there IS a camera everywhere and I don't mind! Too many people like her out there that fabricate stories.

One of the stupidest and worst stories I ever heard was in the Maleah Davis case. I don't know if you followed that one but this woman's story would seem believable compared to his stupid story. Right up there with Leticia Stauch but even more out there. Adding and changing to explain. His was outlandish.

'In a better place.’ Miami mother of drowned autistic boy admits leading him to canal, cops say

In a better place....IMO means I didn't want to look after this sweet disabled boy anymore.

"And authorities said the murder was well-planned — she actually tried drowning Alejando earlier Thursday night, but was thwarted when a good Samaritan stepped in and rescued the boy from the water."

WTF. Did anyone call the police? Or was it just "Oh my thank you for saving him" and moved along?

Instead, they say, surveillance video shows Ripley pushing her 9-year-old, autistic son, Alejandro Ripley, into a canal to let him drown. Neighbors heard the boy’s screams, however, and came to rescue him.

But, they say, Ripley wasn’t done, and, an hour later, she took him to another canal where there was no one was there to save him.

"The only voice in his life that he depended on to get through this world was his mom's, and to think that that voice would be the one to harm him the most," Miami-Dade Deputy Director Freddie Ramirez said, accorind to the report.

She could face death or life in prison if convicted.

Unbelievable. Premeditated and intentional and yes at the mercy of your own mother who is to protect you (the same with fathers in other cases).

We need to devise a special place for these kind of evil people. A place where they can never be let go no matter what!

May Alejandro's death save other children. These hotline numbers need to be widely published.

After death of boy with autism, Miami special needs group sees rise in crisis calls

One Miami-Dade nonprofit says it is experiencing an uptick in calls from parents of children with special needs who are in crisis after the death this week of a 9-year-old boy who had autism.

The death of Alejandro Ripley — who police say was murdered when his mother , Patricia Ripley, pushed the boy into a canal — has rippled throughout the special needs community in Miami, according to Rabbi Yossi Harlig, co-director of Friendship Circle Miami. The organization’s main program pairs children with developmental disabilities, such as autism spectrum disorder or Down syndrome, with children who do not have disabilities.

“One of the concerns is that when someone acts like that, it could trigger other people. You never know,” Harlig said. “Typical families are feeling overwhelmed. Imagine if you’re raising a child with special needs.”

Harlig added that Friendship Circle Miami is considering creating a hotline service specifically for families with children of special needs so they can call when they feel distressed. The organization is looking into other services as well, such as group therapy or childcare centers.

I raised a son with AS and lemme tell you, it was no picnic! By making tough decisions and sticking with them, he's leading a completely normal life now. But it's not that way for all parents of kids with AS, and so many other more serious disabilities. My first thought when I read what happened was "I wonder if there was a resource for this mother before she did the unthinkable?" To be honest, there was only one group in Eugene that used to meet once a month that helped me out, and that was a support group, not anyone at my school, church or community. These groups were few and far between 15-20 years ago, especially in small communities. That might be what needs to be addressed first.

It is not an excuse as she clearly had a chance to change her mind and this was clearly somewhat premeditated (she tried twice for instance). It sounds like she broke down and admitted it pretty quickly, although that may only be because of the evidence they had and sorry for herself tears; however, I also think it likely she was without a support system and perhaps even any help from the father or a second person for respite. I don't think we know do we? It in no way excuses it but people just cannot always handle everything by themselves at all times. For sure regardless of the fact she is as it looks guilty of this, support should still be addressed and hopefully provided for others. Who knows with Covid either? Maybe he was sometimes in school and that provided her with a small break on occasion or daily. Again, I am not making excuses for her, she made her choices and she will be put away I would think and she deserves the legal consequences; however, I can believe she had far more stress than some people and again, not an excuse for her. It said he was nonverbal didn't it? That had to be fairly severe autism or no? That certainly would be another challenge.

Not surprised. Intent and at least some premeditation seems pretty obvious in this one. Poor child. :(

Here's the footage. It's from Univision and in Spanish but it's still there. Under the spoiler. It's disturbing. Don't watch if you don't want to see an attempted murder.

I don't know that we will ever understand why people do things like this but a simpler question is do they not have a clue about cameras?? She clearly had time to think between incidents as well. Smh. It doesn't matter that it was in Spanish does it, the video says it all? I picked up a few words but sure can't interpret it fluently. It may have looked as though she was running for help EXCEPT it shows the push so clearly. Not pleasant to watch for sure.

What other evidence could they be looking for?
