Husband of a Colorado woman who disappeared in 2020 pleads not guilty to murder

The husband of a Colorado woman who disappeared in 2020 pleaded not guilty to murder in her death for the second time.

Barry Morphew entered his plea in the death of Suzanne Morphew through one of his attorneys, David Beller, during a short hearing in Alamosa, Colorado.

This time, Morphew is being prosecuted by a different district attorney for the area where Suzanne Morphew’s remains were found, a rural area about 40 miles (65 kilometers) south of the Morphews' home.

Barry Morphew pleads not guilty to murder charge

The Colorado man accused of killing his wife and leaving her body in a remote field in the San Luis Valley entered a plea to a murder charge on Monday and the judge set a trial date for October.

Barry Morphew pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder and 12th Judicial District Chief Court Judge Amanda Hopkins set a trial date for Oct. 13. Morphew arrived at the arraignment flanked by his two daughters, who have professed his innocence.

“Mr. Morphew does enter a not guilty plea,” said his attorney, David Beller.

Morphew was indicted by a 12th Judicial District grand jury in June. He was arrested in connection with the murder of his wife, Suzanne Morphew, June 20 in Gilbert, Arizona, during a traffic stop by the Arizona Department of Public Safety.

Morphew has been out on $3 million bail set by the judge when he was extradited from Arizona. He wears an ankle monitor.
Not guilty. O.K. Barry.

No surprise he pled NG. Arrived flanked by his side pieces as usual I see. And yeah, I know what I just called them. Any sympathy I once felt for these girls is LONG gone.

They'd do better to worry about their own arses if they are even thinking of getting on the stand and lying for dear daddy.

Court papers: One day stood between Suzanne Morphew being cremated and her remains being taken back by authorities

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) - New court filings detail how Suzanne Morphew’s remains were at the El Paso County Coroner’s Office until being transferred to a local funeral home for cremation.
In May 2020, Suzanne Morphew went missing from her Salida home. In Sept. 2023, her remains were found in Saguache County. Her husband, Barry Morphew, has been charged with murder twice in her death with the first case being dismissed. Both times he has entered not guilty pleas, and his attorneys have maintained his innocence. His current case is set for a status conference on Monday, March 9.
The latest timeline, according to court papers:
  • Jan. 29, 2026: Barry Morphew signs off on moving Suzanne’s remains from the El Paso County Coroner’s Office to Swan-Law Funeral Home in Colorado Springs.
  • Feb. 17, 2026: Law enforcement was notified by the coroner that Suzanne’s remains had been released to a funeral home.
  • Feb. 18, 2026: The court issued a search warrant for Suzanne’s remains.
  • Feb. 19, 2026: Suzanne’s remains are transferred back to authorities by Chaffe County Undersheriff Alex Walker. Her remains were set to be cremated the next day.
  • Feb. 20, 2026: Attorney for Macy and Mallory Morphew, the couple’s daughters, filed a motion asking for the release of Suzanne’s remains.
The response from the Alamosa County District Attorney’s Office to the daughters’ motion says, in part “In April of 2024, the remains of Suzanne Morphew were made available for release to her family. Notably, at that time, no one was charged with Suzanne Morphew’s murder. Further, at that time, family members did not take possession of her remains.”
A trusted legal expert familiar with the case tells 11 News the timing of the latest developments are strange because the Morphew family has had since April 2024 to claim Suzanne’s remains and did not try to until recently.

Is there something else they're afraid the cops will find?
They first said they wanted to do independent testing for the BAM. They are disputing that it was actually BAM. But then, they turn around and so attention like this and that tells me they weren't interested or became not interested in independent testing. Yes, my guess is that they know it will test positive for it.

IDK. Seems like they don't care. Still sticking by daddy. The poor woman can't get any kind of respect.

Whenever I hear something like this, I have this thought.

Imagine the police arrest your mother and/or father. (This is meant for everyone.)

Even if the evidence is clear, you wouldn't want to believe it. Someone who played with you as a child, comforted you when you were hurting or sick, kissed you goodnight, bought you gifts, took you out for ice cream etc.. Is capable of killing your mother?!

A lot of mental gymnastics can be performed to keep your mind from seeing the obvious.

There’s plenty of family members that as hard as it is, can see the truth.
