The license plates surprise me not a bit just as the use of aliases. Yet he and his atty present him as a behaving law abiding man.

He NEVER should have had that money to begin with and he has been using and transferring it to be the daughter's since early on so it can't be taken from him or so he hopes. It enrages me when killers benefit from the murder of their wife financially and nothing is done about it.

Colorado judge denies reduction of Barry Morphew's bail, modifies bond terms for alleged murder of wife Suzanne

The judge said that she wouldn't reduce the bail amount but did modify the terms of the bond. The bond was changed to a cash surety or property bond. That means that a bail bond company posts the bail on the defendant's behalf for a non-refundable fee, typically 10-15% of the total bail amount, which means that he could pay $300,000 for the bond.
The judge also added additional conditions to the bond terms for Barry Morphew:
  • He must surrender his passport
  • He may not leave Colorado for any reason
  • He will wear a GPS monitor
  • He cannot leave his home for any reason except to appear in court, meet with his attorneys, attend a doctor's appointment, or for a medical emergency.
  • He must use only his name of Barry Morphew
  • He must only drive vehicles registered to him
  • He may not possess or control any firearm.

Well the conditions are more strict than last time but they also lessened restrictions last time when asked. He never followed the rules anyhow.

So they know about the license plates and use of other names and still made it possible for him to get out! Rare we see someone charged with murder like this one able to get out, but he has now been able to twice, by two different judges and counties.

I don't like it. One bit.

I know it! What in the world are they thinking? They just let anybody out willy-nilly nowadays.

But somebody will have to love him enough willing to lose 300K to just to get him out since the only thing changed was it wasn't the 3 million cash only now. Even if their house is worth that much, they would have to have the 300k equity in it unless they want to mortgage the 300k AND be able to qualify for that extra mortgage. I'm sure he will have a crowd fund started in his name though. :sigh:

ALAMOSA, Colo. — Barry Morphew is expected to appear in court on Tuesday afternoon, and his team has filed a motion asking for his cash-only $3 million bond to be reduced.

He faces a first-degree murder charge connected to the death of his wife Suzanne Morphew after an indictment issued by a grand jury this summer. That indictment claims Barry Morphew was the only private citizen, at the time of his wife's disappearance, living in the area with access to a certain tranquilizer that was discovered during Suzanne Morphew's autopsy.

Her death was ruled a homicide after an autopsy, which noted that a powerful mix of sedatives — butorphanol, azaperone and medetomidine, or BAM — was found in her system.

Suzanne Morphew was first reported missing by a neighbor on Mother's Day in 2020. Her remains were found in September of 2023 in a shallow grave in Saguache County.

This is the second time Barry Morphew has been charged with his wife's murder. He was arrested roughly a year after Suzanne Morphew disappeared on charges of first-degree murder after deliberation, tampering with physical evidence and an attempt to influence a public servant.

In April of 2022, a judge granted a request by the prosecution to dismiss the caseless than two weeks before his trial was set to begin in Fremont County. The case was dismissed without prejudice, meaning Barry Morphew could be tried again if charges were refiled.

He was arrested in Arizona on June 20 of this year and is set to stand trial in Alamosa, since a grand jury determined there was probable cause to proceed with the case.

Barry Morphew received a $3 million, cash-only bond. Near the end of August, his defense team filed a motion that seeks to reduce that bond, requesting no more than a $500,000 cash/surety/property bond.

In that motion, Barry Morphew's defense team writes, "He is an honest person who is genuinely eager to clear his name so that his former fine reputation can be restored."

Also filed at the end of August was a victim impact statement from Suzanne Morphew's brother, David Moorman. Moorman begins the document by saying he has "laid awake many nights pondering the last few minutes of my sister Suzanne's life."

Moorman told the court, "The interim release of Barry Morphew should under no circumstances be granted. I am sure the grand jurors who indicted him would agree."

Moorman continued to call Barry Morphew a flight risk — something defense attorneys disagreed with in their filing.

The victim impact statement from Moorman advocates for a life sentence without the possibility of parole, claiming Barry Morphew is "a soulless, sadistic, amoral predator that has hunted or used those around him his entire life."

Barry Morphew's status conference is scheduled for Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. in the 12th Judicial District, which encompasses the six counties of the San Luis Valley.

Bail is the same. But, it's not cash only now.
That is correct. It was 3 million cash only. Now he can bail with 10% of that IF he can find a bondsman that is willing. This means that the bondsman will be responsible for the 90% of Barry bolts but it also means that the 10% will go straight to the bonding company and whomever gave the bonding company the 300k will lose it. That's how bondsmen make their income.

True but he can get out on far less. I'm not even sure he would need a bondsman, he does have some money it sounds like and an income, he just couldn't make the higher cash bail apparently. am pretty sure he is out isn't he and was out shortly after that.

I wouldn't trust Barry.
