OSBI: Missing 12-year-old R. D. found safe in Chickasha

The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation on Sunday announced that missing 12-year-old R. D. has been found safe.

“R. was located safe in Chickasha this afternoon,” OSBI officials wrote in a social media post.

“The OSBI appreciates all our local law enforcement partners and search groups who assisted us throughout the week. We will provide updates when they become available,” officials said.
So glad he was able to apparently keep himself safe.

I hope they find this boy a good home and are careful to do so. I don't know if any extended family members are fit... Maybe he'd prefer to be somewhere where other kids at school don't know what he went through. He has a lot of change ahead of him. I hope he knows he is a hero, two people are jailed that very much needed to be thanks to him.

'R. is safe, he is sound': Officials give update after missing 12-year-old R. D. found safe

The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation on Sunday announced that missing 12-year-old R. D. has been found safe.

Hunter McKee, OSBI public information officer, said D. was found in Caddo County, near Cement, Sunday afternoon and was checked out medically.

“After days of searching, after hope and prayer, we can say that the outcome we were all hoping for has come true. R. D. was found safe. He is doing well,” McKee said.

McKee said hundreds of people stepped up and came out to search for D. and around noon Sunday, members of the United Cajun Navy, a local group, located D.

“We have a very, very supportive community, regardless of what it is. I think what the important thing is our community regardless of socio-economics, regardless of race, creed, regardless, they came together because a 12-year-old needed help. To me that’s what’s important,” said Chickasha Police Chief Goebel Music.

"The child’s biological mother and stepfather that we had talked about remain in the Caddo County jail at this time on multiple child abuse complaints," McKee said.

“We can assure you. R. was found safe and at this point he will not go back to that property. He will not go back to those parents. The OSBI, the Chickasha Police Department, we’re going to work closely with DHS to make sure that R. is put into a safe home, which he deserves at this time,” McKee said.

“R. is safe, he is sound and we stand by our promise, he will not go back to that property,” Music said.

  • He was checked medically and found to be in good health, though shaken and frightened at first.
  • R. reportedly had some outdoor survival knowledge, which helped him stay alive — he knew where to find food and water.
  • When found, he was apologetic, seemingly worried he had caused trouble for others, but quickly relaxed once reassured he was safe.

  • R's biological mother and stepfather remain in Caddo County Jail on multiple child abuse charges.
  • Authorities confirmed R. will not return to his parents’ custody.
  • The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation (OSBI) and Department of Human Services (DHS) are working to ensure he is placed in a safe home.
  • The district attorney’s office is continuing to process formal charges against the parents.

  • It is unclear how R. traveled from Chickasha (where he was last seen) to the location in Caddo County.
  • He was found indoors, though the details of the setting remain part of the ongoing investigation.
  • Authorities are still determining whether he had contact with anyone during his disappearance.

After searching for about three hours on Sunday, two men from the United Cajun Navy team found RJ hiding about a mile from the Quality Inn in Chickasha. According to Gill, his team members said R. was scared when they found him.

Once the men assured R. that he was safe, Gill said the boy gave his team members a big hug.

Gill said he is extremely proud of his team and that the next concern is how the community can make sure R. is taken care of.

Sounds good if they are going to help oversee his placement. Let's hope.

That he was found inside is a bit confusing and a mile from the hotel, yet they say they don't know how he got to where he was as if it was a distance from there.

Good job, young man!

So he probably did run away from a hellish life. Poor kid. No child should ever want to run away because their home life is terrible. Home is the one place they should always feel and be safe.

Good luck posting that bond. If they are living in a camper and taking showers at the motel, I'm pretty sure they didn't have 250k sitting around if he gets to post 10% and I bet he doesn't have friends and relatives with that much they are willing to lose.

No contact with animals. That a new one. What tf were these so called parents up to?
