Wisconsin boy, 3, died from gunshot wound around the same time his mother was killed, M.E. says

A 3-year-old Wisconsin boy found dead last week was killed by a gunshot wound to the head around the same time his mother was fatally shot, the medical examiner's office said.

The Milwaukee County Medical Examiner's Office said the manner of death was determined as a homicide. "Based upon the condition of the body," Major was killed either at or around the same time as his mother, Mallery Muenzenberger, according to officials.

Funeral services scheduled in Madison for 3-year-old found dead in Milwaukee

Funeral services will be held in Madison this weekend for a 3-year-old boy who was found dead in Milwaukee last week after being the subject of an Amber Alert, according to a funeral home’s website.

TMJ4 reports Foster Funeral Services will be holding a visitation and service for Major Harris. The family of Major’s mother, Mallery Muenzenberger, previously stated that there had been issues between them and Major’s father, Carleton Harris, on where the child would be buried.

Muenzenberger’s family wanted the child to be buried beside her in La Crosse, while Carleton Harris wanted Major buried in Madison.

Muenzenberger family statement: Mallery 'no longer lives in fear'

The family of Mallery Muenzenberger releases a statement on Tuesday, Oct. 26 in reference to Mallery and her son, Major Harris.

The Meunzenberger family statement reads as follows:

"As the tragedy in the lives of Mallery Muenzenberger and Major Harris continues to unfold, Mallery’s family made the choice to allow Mallery to be laid to rest. She no longer lives in fear. Mallery was laid to rest in a beautiful, private service with many of her family and a few close friends. As difficult as it was for us to be together knowing Majors body is continuing to be held in waiting, we know in our hearts that Major and Mallery are together in God’s hands. We will continue to hold on to the hope that Carlton Harris makes the right decision as he originally announced to the world, to allow this child to be buried beside his mother. We pray Major Harris will be allowed to rest in peace and this horrific tragedy can be allowed to rest as well. We pray for justice to be served for both of these beautiful souls."

Fighting over remains is sad. It's too bad they can't be laid together but they are together in a better place despite a monster sending them there.

So they figure the child was killed around when the mother was and she was found outside in a yard. I still do wonder what the story is in this case.

May both mother and child RIP. I don't understand why the child's father and the mother's family differ when none of them caused this but clearly dad who was not even living near his son has the say in his son's burial. That's not a judgment as I don't know the story, of course as the other parent it is his choice, I just find it sad mother and son's remains can't be in one place.

'I'm just praying for justice': Family of Major Harris seeks to keep attention on investigation

At the site where three-year-old Major Harris was buried over the weekend, relatives gathered Tuesday to light candles and release balloons.

Carlton Harris, the boy's father, said the family is not letting go of the questions they still have about what led to the murder of both Major Harris and his mother, Mallery Muenzenberger, last month in Milwaukee.

Carlton Harris said he's wanted to know more about who told police where they could find his son's body and how they might be connected to the incident.

"I pray the investigation can stay open and that the Milwaukee Police Department can just update me on more information about what's going on with my son," Harris said. "Because in my heart I know there's more to it."

Milwaukee Police Sgt. Efrain Cornejo said Tuesday the investigation was still ongoing. Police had previously said they'd taken two people into custody in connection with the case but have since been released.

"They are no longer in custody and no one has been criminally charged," Cornejo confirmed in an email.

Harris said he hoped public pressure would motivate investigators to get to the bottom of the case. The case generated national attention over the week Major Harris was missing and after the boy's body was found.

They found her. They had to identify her and then found she had a son who should be with her people or relatives perhaps said or thought--I suspect they had to determine if he was with someone else or should be with her in a city she did not live in. They then brought people in and probably pressured and then found his son very shortly thereafter (not alive tragically). While I don't know and there may be reason to doubt Milwaukee PD, it appears to me they are on this case. The loss of his son is tragic and about impossible to cope with but I think he may need to be patient and I am sure it bites but I think all answers may take longer. They I think did pressure and get some answers and if they go about this the wrong way, people could shut up or lawyer up... I suspect they know a lot more but the father may not have that info for some time to come sadly. Jmo.

Not sure but since she was living in the LaCrosse area and ended up murdered in Milwaukee, one has to wonder if there is a crime scene in the LaCrosse area and then the Milwaukee area. I guess I mean did he force them out of their home and to Milwaukee or what... They probably are also awaiting a lot of forensics and testing/autopsy results...

All that said, nothing wrong with his wanting to keep it in the news and want answers. Neither is missing any longer but he needs to know the why, how and other answers. I just think he may end up having to wait while they do as they need to do. Jmo though.

Unfortunately, the PRIME suspect (and likely murderer) in this case is dead. Those left may be up for accessory charges or something, but they may have/had a deal in place to not be charged if they said what they knew / helped locate Major. Of course I don't know that. They could have more on the others and are just waiting for it to fall together. But unfortunately there may never be murder charges for Major. Any charges for anyone involved would be great to see, though.

I honestly don't think there will be either, I think the suspect is dead. I also think they charged and in some cases released other players (who may have been only after the fact, hard to say--weren't there one or two that still have charges?) to press for information to find the little boy's body and I think they did that and it worked (just my guess). The father, understandably, was very on them to find his son too and they did, maybe not of course as fast as he wanted nor of course with the result he hoped for.

I do think and understand he does want the case finished out and not dropped to get answers as to what people know about why she was there, why his son was there, how it came to be, what the probably dead perp did, was he in LaCrosse area or did she travel with Major to Milwaukee and why (sounds like she did) and those types of answers. I think that will take some time though as they finish this out. It might take phone records, movements, autopsies, maybe ballistics, tox (even on the likely perp, etc.), more interviews and he may never have all the answers.

Yeah. If you have info and they found him alive no charges. But he's dead. All deals should be off. And found to be accessories.

Major Harris case: New details of Milwaukee police investigation

The case of missing 3-year-old Major Harris – found shot and killed in Milwaukee – captivated people across the country in October.

Now, newly-obtained court filings provide a clearer picture of what transpired in the hours after the body of Harris' mother, 25-year-old Mallery Muenzenberger, was found.

The court filings detail that Clark was developed as a suspect just hours after police showed up at the home. The man who called police lived there with Clark's mother and their children, including Jaheem.

Filings said Clark's mother received several text messages earlier that morning from a number she did not recognized, but believed they were sent by her son over an hour-and-a-half span.

At 2:38 a.m., one text read: "Don't let anybody in the house without paperwork I didn't do it Ma am I promise she was down here messing with some other dudes and they dropped her off where they picked her up at she came in and layed down and i guess she tried to leave."

Ten minutes later, another text read: "If anybody ask you, you never saw her never met her you don't gotta speak on my behalf and say I did or didn't do anything just know I'm telling you the truth."

When police were given permission to search the home, "detectives located blood in the rear stairwell that leads to the upper" where Clark's bedroom was.

While the documents provide more detail about the beginnings of the investigation, which police say is now closed, a number of questions remain, and it is unclear if they will ever be able to be answered.

Major Harris case: New details of MPD's suspect search

Milwaukee police say the man suspected of killing 3-year-old Major Harris and his mother, Mallery Muenzenberger, also killed himself.

Freshly unsealed records give a clearer picture of the murder investigation – and show how police zeroed in on their suspect, Jaheem Clark. Police said the investigation into the deaths of Harris and Muenzenberger are closed.

While it was already known that there was blood evidence in the home where Muenzenberger's body was found, the records obtained by FOX6 News show that police found bleach, vinegar and bloody bath towels in Clark's bedroom.

When police searched the home again, investigators found a bloody mattress and a plastic bin that smelled of bleach. Inside the bin were children's clothing and other blood-spattered evidence.

Later that day, police tracked Clark to a relative's home. As police were let in, a medical examiner's report states Clark ran to a bathroom and two gunshots were heard. He was found with a gunshot wound to the head – dead just blocks away from where Muenzenberger's SUV was found.

Police made several arrests in connection to the case. One of those suspects later gave police the final piece: The location of Harris' body, found a week after his mother's, in the backyard of a home near 35th and Rohr in a garbage bag.

Despite the arrests made in connection to the overall case, no charges were issued in any circumstance. FOX6 has been told that the case files are waiting to be released, but that has not happened yet.

No charges for any of the others... Not sure what to think of that... They couldn't find the child so I guess if deals gave them info from each person finally leading to answers then maybe it is understandable... But it doesn't seem that is known... I also wonder if the mother covered for her son or not as he asked her. It is only clear that the mother's bf (I assume since they share children and residence) did do the right thing, no idea if the mother did or knew...

Someone who gave them the piece of where the boy's body was I have to wonder about... That someone knew a vital piece and let people worry if he was dead or alive and time was ticking... But again, maybe only a deal obtained that info...

Sad and tragic and still not a hint of why she was there with her son or anything else or why he did this?
