'I'm praying he's safe': Missing 3-year-old Major Harris' father pleads for his safe return

TMJ4 spoke with Carlton Harris Jr., Major's father over the phone, and he told us he does not know why Major and Major's mother were in Milwaukee. He said they are both from the La Crosse area.

Carlton broke down as he spoke to us hours after finding out his son, 3-year-old Major Harris was missing.

"I'm praying he's safe and that whoever got him just give him back and I can come get my son," he said.

He is the proud father of four kids. He describes his youngest son, Major, as being energetic. "Always happy," Carlton cried. "He lights up every time he sees me."

Carlton said Major's mom said she needed help. The last time he spoke to her was a couple weeks ago.

Major's mother was identified by the Medical Examiner's Office as 25-year-old Mallery Muenzenberger.

He said he recently moved to West Virginia to better his life, and was working towards having Major live with him.

"Put myself in a situation where I'm able to have my own place to bring Major because she needed help," Carlton said.

He is now on his way to Milwaukee so he can work closer with investigators who are looking for his son.

Amber Alert continues for missing 3-year-old Milwaukee boy

An Amber Alert continues for a missing 3-year-old Milwaukee boy, Major Harris.

Investigators report Harris was the son of Mallery Muenzenberger, 25, who was found dead in the backyard of a home near North 37th and West Clarke street on Thursday.

According to Milwaukee police, life-saving measures were taken on the scene but Muenzenberger was pronounced dead and had obvious signs of trauma.

The medical examiner called it a homicide.

WISN 12's Courtney Sisk knocked on a door of the home where Muenzenberger was found and where Harris was last seen but was not welcomed.

Police report Harris could be with Jaheem K. Clark, who was a person of interest in the homicide.

According to court records, Clark is not the boy's biological father.

Police would not say if there was any relationship between Clark and Harris.

Received this Amber Alert the other day but the odd thing about it is it was just for the vehicle, no description of the child, age or anything and no description of the guy either...

I'm in WI and the only Amber Alert that came through was about the car--twice... I'm not saying a person could not possibly find more online but no pic nor identifying info was sent about the child or perp.

I get it. But that IS the point of an AMBER Alert. The vehicle information. That's what gets put up on the highway reader boards too. Usually just the vehicle information. That's why most states require vehicle info prior to issuing an AMBER Alert.
Those messages that get sent out en masse like that are character limited and no pics. If anything, it may say "3yo M"
Ideally, yes, they'd send out like the flyer or something with the vehicle, child, AND suspect info and pics. But unfortunately that's not the system we have in place.

I get it in that locating and finding the vehicle first and foremost and quickly yields the biggest chance (when that info is available) but I guess I would think there would come a follow-up or more info or at least a little.

I guess also it's that what if they see it (and of course it alerts all, perp included if he has a phone, etc. the minute the alert hits) and they ditch the vehicle but have the child... Here is the only place I have seen a pic of the child or suspected perp.

Clearly, I guess I sound like I expect perfection but I can also say that the alerts never came until 5:45 last night...

Community advocates say 'all hands on deck' needed to find missing toddler Major Harris

Milwaukee police spent Sunday afternoon investigating inside and outside a home near N 37th and Clarke Street.

On Thursday, they found 25-year-old Mallery Muenzenberger's body in the backyard. The medical examiner said it is a homicide.

12 News was on scene Sunday as police carried brown paper bags filled with evidence out from the home.

According to court records, Clark is not the boy's biological father.

Police would not say if there was any relationship between Clark and Harris.

Wisconsin's community advocate Tory Lowe spoke with 12 News Sunday evening.

"We're scrambling to find out what actually happened, and we also want to get her 3-year-old son Major back home," he said. “Most her friends and family [are] from La Crosse and they’re calling me to come down to try and organize a search.”

Lowe said a search would involve finding more details about Clark and Muenzenberger. But he believed it's the entire community's responsibility to help.

“What if it was your child, what if it was your family member that was murdered," he questioned. “Maybe somebody from his side of the family, maybe somebody that knows him can give tips. I mean they can be anonymous. "

He continued.

"Once a 3-year-old goes missing all bets are off," he said. "Everybody [has] to have all hands on deck. We have to make sure we’re tapped in to try to make sure that this kid gets back safely. You know, it’s just our responsibility.”

Part of that responsibility, he said, is speaking up if you have information.

“We can’t harbor anybody that’s causing harm to innocent life in our communities," he said. "So I’m asking anybody that knows him or knows about the situation to give tips so we can make sure we can get Major home safe."

Milwaukee Police told 12 News they have received information, but nothing lead them to Major Harris yet.

"Wisconsin's community advocate?"

Okay, I'm going to put it down to media and reporting. Wisconsin has a community advocate that they want to come down and try to organize a search? I can only guess this is someone from LaCrosse in my attempt to determine what is meant here and a concerned person/citizen, etc. but it sounds so official...

I'm sorry but it almost sounds like it's some State employee/advocate and I seriously doubt that.

Just informational, LaCrosse and Milwaukee are not that close to each other...

Oh hell.

Amber Alert: 3-year-old boy still missing, suspect dead

Milwaukee police continue to search for a missing 3-year-old boy after his mother was killed.

The man who was suspect in her death and a person of interest in his disappearance was found dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Police said they found Clark Sunday evening at a home near North 31st Street and West Custer Avenue in Milwaukee.

About 15 minutes after police arrived, officers said they heard two gunshots from inside the home.

When police went into the house, they said they found a man dead.

They initially called him the "homicide suspect" without naming Clark specifically.

The Milwaukee County Medical Examiner's Office told WISN 12 Monday morning that the man was Clark.

THIS!

Investigators still have not found the black 2008 Chevrolet Equinox with Wisconsin plates ABE2804 that Clark was believed to have been driving.

So how did le find the suspect if it wasn't from tracing the vehicle?

He shot himself twice? I guess it's possible or he missed the first time...

So the child is still missing? It doesn't sound very good.

I wonder what the connection was to the child or mother, they haven't said yet have they?

I was scared he would be in the vehicle. But where is he?!?!

Major Harris still missing, Amber Alert vehicle found

Police located the vehicle of interest in the Amber Alert for 3-year-old Major Harris in Milwaukee on Monday, Oct. 18. A vehicle matching the description of the vehicle being sought by police in this case was seen parked outside of a laundromat near Sherman and Villard. The SUV was towed away – and the child is still missing.

The discovery of the vehicle buoyed optimism and galvanized a resolve to find the boy. This, as Major's father arrived in Milwaukee from the East Coast to join the search for his son.

3-year-old Major Harris not found after several searches; father in town and mother's friends coming to search

Monday, Oct. 18, Milwaukee police briefly searched for Major Harris at nearby McGovern Park after they recovered a vehicle matching one connected to the case.

Milwaukee police have not said if or when another search will be conducted. Friends of Major's mother said they're coming to Milwaukee from La Crosse Tuesday morning to help search for the boy.

In addition to the police search, a group of community members also searched for Harris at three separate locations.

Major's father was too emotional to go on camera, but said he was close with Major's deceased mother, Mallery Muenzenberger. He said he's worried his son is likely scared, and he's bracing for the possibility of another tragedy.

When the vehicle was first located, community members worried about Major braced for the worst, but police later announced they were still looking for him.

Activist Vaun Mayes pulled together a loosely-organized group and went a few blocks north to search McGovern Park. Mayes said, "That could be anybody's child. And they would want the help if it was them. We have to come together as a community."

Shortly afterward, roughly 25 police officers walked in and fanned out, searching the open fields, forest trails and the edge of the ponds. There were no dive teams and no one got in the water, and after 30 minutes the officers left.

The community search party then went to 37th and Clarke, where Major's mother was found dead Thursday. There, Major's father, Carlton Laflaura of West Virginia, joined them.

At one point, the group got in a heated discussion with a woman allegedly related to Jaheem Clark, the suspect who died Sunday from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. As the larger group walked from house to house, a smaller group kicked in a door and entered, calling for Major. It took time to restore order, and at the end of the search, nothing was found.

Mayes said, "We have a 3-year-old to find. And we hope, in the best interest of all parties involved, that he is alive and well."

Since the perp is dead, I think perhaps a little more info might be helpful to people. Do they know what he was wearing last, are they sure he was with the mother and that this man actually took him after I guess allegedly killing her? Could the child have ran off? Although if so, one would think he'd be found by now...

Father of Major Harris speaks with Milwaukee police; still searching

The father of Major Harris, a 3-year-old boy at the center of an Amber Alert, spoke with Milwaukee police on Tuesday morning, Oct. 19.

Carlton Harris Jr. told FOX6 News police are still searching for Major. He pleaded that anyone who may know where the child is to call the police as soon as possible.

Harris Jr. said the family is going back out to Havenwoods State Forest in Milwaukee to pick up the search for Major.

On Monday, a vehicle matching the description of the vehicle being sought by police in this case was seen parked outside of a laundromat near Sherman and Villard. The SUV was towed away. Police also indicated the suspect vehicle was located in Milwaukee – but would not confirm the vehicle at the laundromat was the same vehicle.
