Madeleine Beth McCann (born 12 May 2003) disappeared on the evening of 3 May 2007 from her bed in a holiday apartment at a resort in Praia da Luz, in the Algarve region of Portugal. Her whereabouts remain unknown.[3] The Daily Telegraph described the disappearance as "the most heavily reported missing-person case in modern history".[4]

Madeleine was on holiday from the UK with her parents, Kate and Gerry McCann; her two-year-old twin siblings; and a group of family friends and their children. She and the twins had been left asleep at 20:30 in the ground-floor apartment, while the McCanns and friends dined in a restaurant 55 metres (180 ft) away.[5] The parents checked on the children throughout the evening, until Madeleine's mother discovered she was missing at 22:00.

Hmm. The problem is so many years in, a very long time, and jurisdictional investigations and power struggles and different countries, instead of working together over a missing child? Even if it now ends up apparently solved, or said to be, or even if there is a confession, questions are always going to remain and linger at this late point and doubts will as well. They will for me at least.

I don't get it, either. My kids would have been right there with me anywhere I went, especially if out of country where you know nothing about everything. They either get drug along with you or you do without. What if they simply fell and got seriously cut or something? What if they got up looking for you and wandered out? At home, they would know where to look. I might feel a bit different if it was a situation where you could easily see/hear the front door, but it wasn't.

Exactly this!, when my older 2 boys were still kids we went to Spain and Greecenwith them,they were around 7 and 11,we never left them anywhere not even a kids club and at night they slept with us too,one in with men and one in with my husband, call me ultra paranoid but like I said to my husband at the time,how do we know that we would hear if someone got in through a window and took them,or even the door if we were in another room with the door shut or even if one of them decided to get up and go for a wander they could get lost,or taken or run over or fall in the pool or anything. Even when we stayed at my Dads villa in the middle of nowhere they still slept one in with each of us!

Absolutely!. I'm not like that at home obviously, but in a foreign country where apartments aren't that secure its different story,and I know no body wants to blame the parents but the fact is none of them in that group should have left their children alone like that ,its not just the McCanns that were wrong it's the whole party.
I mean ok,you wouldnt think your child would be snatched from her bed,but an accident, or god forbid a fire?, how would 3 tiny children get out of that room by themselves? How quickly would you be able to get there and get 3 babies out safely once you realised?, especially after sharing 8 bottles of wine!!

Portuguese police have launched searches for Madeleine McCann’s body 20 minutes away from Praia da Luz, according to local reports.

The searches are said to have been conducted in wells in Vila do Bispo, ten miles west of the town where the young girl vanished in May 2007.

Portugal’s state broadcaster RTP says that detectives have discovered “fundamental evidence” relating to prime suspect, German paedophile Christian Brückner, but these claims have not been verified by police.

Previously, police sources told the Telegraph that because the German authorities are running the investigation, the Portuguese police will only conduct searches if they are requested to do so.

The searches are said to have taken place in wells in Vila do Bispo, which is a 20-minute drive west of Praia da Luz, where the three-year-old disappeared in May 2007.

“I can confirm that the search is being carried out in connection with our investigations into the Maddie McCann case,” Brunswick prosecutor Julia Meyer told AFP, when asked about the operation first reported by local Hannoversche Allgemeine newspaper.

Police began searching the site in the early hours of Tuesday morning, clearing trees and using an excavator, the newspaper report said.

Meyer gave no details of how the plot was connected to the case or what they were hoping to find.


The suspect, who was not named by police but identified by German media as Christian B., lived in Hanover from 2007, according to the Hannoversche Allgemeine.

I find it kind of hard to buy after all of this time but I guess stranger things have happened...
I for one would be skeptical I think no matter what... I think I would feel that way with Madeline, Jon Benet, Natalee Holloway, Libby and Abby and more... I am not saying time, DNA or finding bones or a body can't solve a case, or a cold case, but some cases, that just had so much coverage or it seemed so many lies or failures, or too much exposure then lo and behold, look, I guess I have turned into a cynic in that in some, they had better have something that hook line and sinker explains it and why they missed it back when or since but now look, lo and behold...

I think they're on the right track with this guy. But I don't know that he would have taken her to Germany.

I disagree, I think DNA would do a great job toward solving this case. If Madeline's remains are found in Germany that's pretty damning.

Remains sure. That would be amazing. Madeline's remains in Germany. I still would want to know more about it. I thought she went missing in Portugal...

I do think in this case they may be onto something... And have more than that. I just hope they can not only maybe cross a T but dot a few I's if it comes to it... And even then, I would think and hope they would be looking back at other children in any area or place the man ever was... It still would not close it in my mind... Just me I guess...

They have tried to pin it on lots of people over the years, til now this is no different IMO , no matter what they say. People need to see results. This has been going on for too long.

She did.
This suspect was living in the area she disappeared at the time. He was known for breaking into the rooms of people vacationing there.
He moved to Germany not too long after Madeleine disappeared.

Thanks, thought so. I am just saying there would remain other questions... At least for me... So she ended up from Portugal to Germany. How, when, etc... Just me I guess...

Just not sure depending on what they find if it would close everything out in my head not that that matters because often one never gets that anyhow...
