Madeleine Beth McCann (born 12 May 2003) disappeared on the evening of 3 May 2007 from her bed in a holiday apartment at a resort in Praia da Luz, in the Algarve region of Portugal. Her whereabouts remain unknown.[3] The Daily Telegraph described the disappearance as "the most heavily reported missing-person case in modern history".[4]

Madeleine was on holiday from the UK with her parents, Kate and Gerry McCann; her two-year-old twin siblings; and a group of family friends and their children. She and the twins had been left asleep at 20:30 in the ground-floor apartment, while the McCanns and friends dined in a restaurant 55 metres (180 ft) away.[5] The parents checked on the children throughout the evening, until Madeleine's mother discovered she was missing at 22:00.

From last year, another mostly ignored piece of the puzzle.
From the article:

What makes the Smith sighting very interesting is that Jane Tanner is a friend, and the Smith sighting is a bunch of people that have no clue who the McCanns are. These are not their friends," Brown said.

UK police identify new suspect in 2007 disappearance of Madeleine McCann

British police officers investigating the disappearance of Madeleine McCann have identified a new suspect, in what they described as a "significant new line of enquiry," 13 years after the three year-old vanished in Portugal.

The new suspect is a German man currently imprisoned in Germany over an unrelated matter, the UK's Metropolitan Police force said.

The force did not identify the man but described him as a 43-year-old white man. He lived periodically in southern Portugal's Algarve region between 1995 and 2007, when McCann disappeared.

"He is connected to the area of Praia da Luz and surrounding regions, and spent some short spells in Germany," the police statement said.

The police also revealed details of two cars linked to the suspect around the time of Madeleine McCann's disappearance.

"The first vehicle is a distinctive VW T3 Westfalia campervan. It is an early 1980s model, with two tone markings, a white upper body and a yellow skirting. It had a Portuguese registration plate," the statement said.

"The suspect had access to this van from at least April 2007 until sometime after May 2007. It was used in and around the area of Praia da Luz."

"The second vehicle is a 1993 British Jaguar, model XJR 6, with a German number plate and registered in Germany," the statemnt adds

"This car is believed to have been in the Praia da Luz and surrounding areas in 2006 and 2007. The car was originally registered in the suspect's name. On 4 May 2007, the day after Madeleine's disappearance, the car was re-registered to someone else in Germany.

Wow! I can't wait to find out more about what this means now!

Madeleine McCann disappearance: what do we know about the new suspect?

British, German and Portuguese police have launched an international appeal for information after identifying a German national as the new prime suspect in the investigation into the disappearance of Madeleine McCann in Portugal 13 years ago.

Scotland Yard said that significant information regarding the man had emerged after investigators made an appeal in May 2017, the 10th anniversary of Madeleine’s disappearance.

The 43-year-old, who is currently in prison in Germany and has been named by sources in Portugal as Christian Brückner, is a German paedophile who is thought to have been in the Algarve resort of Praia Da Luz where Madeleine went missing 13 years ago.

He is believed to have broken into hotel and holiday rental properties and to have been involved in the trafficking of drugs in the Algarve between 1995 and 2007. Images have been released of a camper van in which he was living near the resort where Madeleine was staying with her family, including her twin siblings.

Now aged 43, in 2007 he was 30 but may have looked as young as 25.

As part of their appeal, Metropolitan police investigators have released images of the camper van and a Jaguar car they say are linked to the man and want anyone to come forward if they recognise them.

Stuart Cundy, the Met’s deputy assistant commissioner, said on Wednesday: “Our main line of inquiry is this suspect. He is the main focus of our investigation, which is why we are making this appeal, to help us with that investigation, to prove or disprove his involvement.”

Madeleine’s parents, Kate and Gerry McCann, believe the identification of the man as the key suspect in their daughter’s disappearance is “potentially very significant”.

Their spokesperson, Clarence Mitchell, told the BBC: “Of all the thousands of leads and potential suspects that have been mentioned in the past, there has never been something as clear cut as that from not just one, but three, police forces.”

Police receive hundreds of calls and emails after new Madeleine McCann appeal

Police have received hundreds of emails and calls from the public since launching a new appeal for information on a suspect in the disappearance of Madeleine McCann.

On Wednesday night, Scotland Yard, working with German and Portuguese authorities, urged people to come forward if they could shed more light on a German prisoner currently under investigation.

German prosecutors believe Madeleine is dead and are investigating the child sex predator on suspicion of her murder.

DCI Mark Cranwell, who is leading the Metropolitan Police’s Operation Grange investigation into Madeleine’s disappearance, said more than 270 calls and emails had been received by 4pm on Thursday.

Thanking the public for getting in touch, he said: “We are pleased with the information coming in, and it will be assessed and prioritised.

“We continue to urge anyone with information to come forward and speak with us.”

The suspect under investigation, a 43-year-old German national named in media reports as Christian Brueckner, is reportedly serving a seven-year prison sentence for the rape of a 72-year-old American woman in Portugal in 2005.

He is known to have lived on the Algarve coast and his Portuguese mobile phone received a half-hour phone call in Praia da Luz around an hour before Madeleine, three, went missing on May 3 2007.

I am watching and waiting, wondering if this could be the solution or if it's just another 'promising ' lead. We'll see.
