Maui woman reported missing while traveling, family seeks help finding her

Loved ones of Ha'iku resident Hannah Kobayashi are trying tirelessly to find her after she reportedly disappeared while traveling to the mainland.

"We're just trying to not be paralyzed, in a way, not think of the worst," Kobayashi's aunt Larie Pidgeon said.

The 30-year-old was reportedly last seen at the Los Angeles International Airport nearly a week ago.

Pidgeon said Kobayashi had a layover in Los Angeles last Friday on her way to New York for a concert and a photography job, as well as to visit Pidgeon’s sister.

A friend of Kobayashi’s just so happened to be traveling on the same flights as her, Pidgeon added, and last saw her at LAX.

But then Kobayashi missed the flight to New York, which was one of the last of the night.

"That's when everything started getting fuzzy and we're starting to lose contact with her," Pidgeon explained.

A screenshot of messages Pidgeon said Kobayashi sent to the aunt in New York mentioned, "I just finished a very intense spiritual awakening."

Another text apologized for "craziness," adding afterward "was definitely intercepted."

According to Pidgeon, Kobayashi's last text was sent on the same day to her roommate, in which she mentions feeling scared, and that someone might be trying to steal her money and identity.

Since then, relatives have been having trouble getting in touch with her, and her phone appears to be unreachable.

"It (Kobayashi's phone) was pinging in the LAX airport and it no longer... it goes straight to voicemail," Pidgeon said.

"It didn't move from LAX airport so that is where we know that she last was."

What is WITH this family? There's no way their attorney can be representing her unless as an adult she agreed and has had contact with them or the attorney. OR if they have some kind of legal rights over her and she's incompetent or something.

I'm guessing neither is the case or they'd know where she is and not need people to keep searching.

Talk about controlling or so it seems... I might just be starting to understand the need to break free of them if they do something like this even without her knowledge or permission.

Is there any other way to take it? Am I looking at it wrong?

Well I am about done with him for the millionth time. He's bitching about the lack of donations tonight, etc. on and on and on and on. I have NOTHING against a YTer or anyone making money for their work. I DO have a problem about whining when plenty is not enough, YES he donates and a lot but it leaves him with one heck of an income. And he gets so nasty about it. The ONLY reason I ever end up on him is if nothing else is on or he is covering a case I am following and then it doesn't usually last long. Sickening. On and on about how he can't do other cases if people can't reach is donation bar...

I stopped watching him several years ago. Too long winded and self opinionated.

I bet they got a lawyer because they started that GFM for HK but when i last looked it was increased to $50k ($48k raised) but now has the name of the father's ex as the beneficiary. Not sure what's going on. Maybe donees want their money back now HK has been traced heading to Tijuana.

You got that right. Same opinion here. And I don't watch him generally. I've heard it before but you should have heard him go on about people only meeting half of his high goal of funds for the night. And it's not him, it's that people want the popular cases and the minute he tries to cover some others, they go to another channel, or he can't afford to cover others, etc., etc., etc. It's all money. I have noticed lately, the RARE time I see him because I generally won't watch, I think he's losing viewership and meeting his high money goals and as you said way too long winded, self first, insulting, etc. Lately though he starts out trying NOT to be but as time goes on, he winds up right back there as the donations don't come in and falls back to his norm. He's having af it at his long term viewers. I mean OMG I don't know how most watch him.

He is and was great like at mapping and such in Delphi and recreating. I will give him that. One of the reasons I've given it another chance lately. And there's been little on. But in short order, have the same darned opinion of him I get every single time.

Everyone else in the world is an idiot including his faithful ones. Lol. God what an arrogant arse. Money, money, money. And again, I'm not against that YTers etc. should make some money, some of them do a ton of work, more than "real" news reporters, lol (if there is such a thing these days). The worst thing was he is blaming it on all these other things and anything but that he has caused such himself to himself.

I will say he popped onto Tom's channel and called in, mostly to clear himself of what someone said. And that was a good discussion. Tom has long ones but he also doesn't beg for money, chastise if nothing is coming in, and his shows are in order and if you just want the updates, they are always at the start, etc. Gray is all over the place. One goes in and no case talk for an hour at all, must a rant about money, etc.

Just had my fill I guess, If he'd really be real and like he was talking on Tom's channel, that was worth it. He also didn't take over and actually learned a few things he did not know as he was not attending the trial, etc. and asked his opinion too on a few things. That one is worth a watch and listen.

Yeah, he irritated me to no end tonight. Earlier. Same old but even WORSE.

I think similar, they are saving or trying to their butts on the GFM and money. I think there is something money related in all of this quite honestly and I don't know nearly what others probably do on it from elsewhere.

Tiajuana. Hadn't heard that. California border, did she ever go far into Mexico? This will end up a lot like the Carly Russell thing. It will fade and not be the case of the day but it should be pointed out and not forgotten the bs pulled. And in this one, she ended up with a dead dad.

Clearly other things are/were wrong here. I'm not even sure about her, but the family is something else... She probably is too, but i'm just going by not looking at other SM, etc. and some things are obvious.

Now hiring a lawyer should cost more than the almost 50K raised but then the lawyer will become known and is now in the public eye and maybe volunteered. Such a world.

She probably said she'd save the GFM and save them for half, etc. Lol.

Not funny but seriously.

It really disgusts me. I refuse to get on FB but some of the writing on the wall is pretty clear.

I should add not knocking anyone that does, just been off for a few years and have no desire to go check it out.

Hannah Kobayashi’s sister says family is unsatisfied with LAPD conclusion that she vanished voluntarily

The sister of 30-year-old Hannah Kobayashi said Tuesday the police conclusion that she is a "voluntary missing person" is not satisfactory.

Appearing with family lawyer Sara Azari on NBC News NOW's "Top Story With Tom Llamas," Sydni Kobayashi said relatives should have been shown the video that Los Angeles Police Chief Jim McDonnell said shows Hannah crossing into Mexico alone at a pedestrian port of entry in San Diego on Nov. 12.

McDonnell said that there’s not much more the department can do and that it has classified the case as one of a voluntary detachment with no foul play suspected.

"We're just as confused and just as frustrated more than anything now," Sydni Kobayashi said.

Family of Hannah Kobayashi call on LAPD to release surveillance video of her crossing into Mexico

The family of a woman from Hawaii who vanished after landing in Los Angeles three weeks ago expressed frustration with investigators and said they haven’t seen the surveillance footage that shows her walking across the border into Mexico.

Los Angeles Police Chief Jim McDonnell said this week that the video shows Hannah Kobayashi, 30, walking with her luggage alone into a covered walkway at San Diego’s San Ysidro crossing on Nov. 12, the day after relatives reported her missing.

McDonnell said there is no evidence Kobayashi was being trafficked or was otherwise a victim of a crime. Her disappearance is now classified as a “ voluntary missing person,” he said.

Her sister, Sydni Kobayashi, told Hawaii News Now that the family didn’t learn until Monday that her sister walked from San Diego into Mexico three weeks ago.

“For them to tell us that they have been keeping us informed throughout the entire time, that’s absolutely inaccurate,” Sydni Kobayashi said Tuesday. “We feel like we’re left in the dark and that was kind of like a huge slap in the face for us.”

Family members, friends and local volunteers searched for Hannah in Los Angeles.

Investigators spotted Kobayashi on video while reviewing surveillance footage from U.S. Customs and Border Protection late Sunday, McDonnell said. Sydni Kobayashi said authorities have not shown any surveillance video to the family.

The family has hired a private investigator and attorney because they still feel Hannah is in danger, Hawaii News Now reported.

This family seems closer to kidnapping her than anybody else, at this point.

How did the family just learn about it when the rumors of her doing this very thing have been out there for at least a couple of weeks now?

Starting to remind me a bit of this from last month.

Becoming more and more apparent that the family has been lying and is probably the very reason why she took off the way she did. Thinking I really don't blame her. If they are acting like this in public, imagine his they act in private.

They are talking about this case on CourtTV right now. This whole thing is a really effed up situation. Do they have surveillance video of her father committing suicide, or could he have been thrown off?

Like was commented I think on that X post, her family is endangering her. Mexico isn't overly safe and that GFM is public. If they keep it up, she WILL get kidnapped and held for the GFM balance.
That is exactly what I was thinking in that her family is now endangering her in more ways than one.

No wonder she took off. Sheesh.
