Maui woman reported missing while traveling, family seeks help finding her

Loved ones of Ha'iku resident Hannah Kobayashi are trying tirelessly to find her after she reportedly disappeared while traveling to the mainland.

"We're just trying to not be paralyzed, in a way, not think of the worst," Kobayashi's aunt Larie Pidgeon said.

The 30-year-old was reportedly last seen at the Los Angeles International Airport nearly a week ago.

Pidgeon said Kobayashi had a layover in Los Angeles last Friday on her way to New York for a concert and a photography job, as well as to visit Pidgeon’s sister.

A friend of Kobayashi’s just so happened to be traveling on the same flights as her, Pidgeon added, and last saw her at LAX.

But then Kobayashi missed the flight to New York, which was one of the last of the night.

"That's when everything started getting fuzzy and we're starting to lose contact with her," Pidgeon explained.

A screenshot of messages Pidgeon said Kobayashi sent to the aunt in New York mentioned, "I just finished a very intense spiritual awakening."

Another text apologized for "craziness," adding afterward "was definitely intercepted."

According to Pidgeon, Kobayashi's last text was sent on the same day to her roommate, in which she mentions feeling scared, and that someone might be trying to steal her money and identity.

Since then, relatives have been having trouble getting in touch with her, and her phone appears to be unreachable.

"It (Kobayashi's phone) was pinging in the LAX airport and it no longer... it goes straight to voicemail," Pidgeon said.

"It didn't move from LAX airport so that is where we know that she last was."

Chilling final text of Hawaii woman, 30, who vanished at LAX while headed on NYC 'bucket list' trip

A Hawaiian family is desperately looking for their daughter who mysteriously went missing in Los Angeles as chilling texts reveal what may have happened.

Hannah Kobayashi, 30, flew from her home in Maui on November 8 and was meant to arrive in New York City the next day.

But mother, Brandi Yee, and sister Sydni Kobayashi believe she went vanished into thin air at Los Angeles International Airport and never boarded her connecting flight.

'I didn't hear from her. I texted her, "Hey, are you in New York City yet?" She just texted me, "Not yet."'

'My sister, I reached out to her, and I'm like, "Hey, have you heard from Hannah?" She's like, "No. She's supposed to meet me at the hotel in New York City and we're supposed to go to a show tonight,"' the worried mother recalled to HawaiiNewsNow.

But while the duo think Hannah left the airport and attended an event based on a series of texts suggesting she 'had a spiritual awakening and was heading back to the airport', a friend believes otherwise.

The concerned companion said she received strange texts from Kobayashi's phone - indicating that she may be in trouble.

'I got tricked pretty much into giving away all my funds. For someone I thought I loved,' the messages read.

The family also noted that the young artist's phone has been off since November 11 and her last pinned location was at the Los Angeles Airport.

'She heard from Hannah. She was at LAX, and she said that she was scared,' Yee said.

Sydni further added: 'She texted her that she was scared and that she couldn’t come back home or something. It was just really weird texts.'

Both mother and daughter also believe that the messages 'did not sound like her' and wonder if it was Hannah who sent them.

Yee remarked, 'Yeah, we share location' to which Sydni added: 'And we know her phone’s off because it goes straight to voicemail.

'We've been trying to call and call and call, text.

'None of the texts are getting delivered. We can't locate her phone.'

The family has filed a missing person's report with the Los Angeles Police Department and requested anyone with information to come forward.

'We did everything that we could do. And they told us that it would be, it would have to take 48 hours before they could do anything, because she’s not elderly, she’s not mentally off. She's not under age.

'I woke up last night crying and I just like, this like the sister, mother, anyone’s worst nightmare of losing your child.

'Please help her, if you can. If you know where she's at, or you have the chance to just help her, please. We just want to bring her home,' the mother revealed.

I would like more info on this "friend of Kobayashi’s just so happened to be traveling on the same flights as her". Could that also be the person she said she lost her money to?

It was her ex boyfriend apparently. He supposedly made his connection. She was seen outside a venue in LA Saturday and her phone showed she was back at the airport Monday. Her father has travelled to LA to try and sort it out. See article below.

KAHULUI (HawaiiNewsNow) - The Los Angeles Police Department confirms it is investigating a Maui woman’s disappearance.

A newly obtained security camera photo is the latest piece of evidence in the search for Hannah Kobayashi who disappeared in Los Angeles. The picture shows the 30-year-old from Haiku at LAX last Friday where she missed a connecting flight to New York City.

Her father is now in LA searching for her.

The family has also filed a report with the FBI.

“We’re just trying to get us as much information as we can,” said Hannah’s father Ryan Kobayashi. “Want to get the word out... has anyone seen my daughter?”

Hannah’s family says her ex-boyfriend was also on that flight from Maui to LAX because they booked it before they broke up.

But they said he told them they did not sit together and did not have contact on the flight.

Her family said he made the connecting flight to New York City and said he has been extremely responsive and cooperative with the investigation.

“A lot of worrying, a lot of confusion. Everything is just a blur it seems because I haven’t slept well since I’ve heard the news, and I really don’t know … it’s just really concerning,” Ryan said.

Another piece of evidence is a short YouTube video that shows Hannah outside of an event in Los Angeles on Saturday.

The last pinned location the family has on her phone shows her back at LAX on Monday.

Hannah also sent a text message to a friend saying, “I got tricked pretty much into giving away all my funds for someone I thought I loved.”

Another text said that she was scared.

“There’s a lot of people looking for you Hannah. So, if you get this, if you see anything, just go to the police, go to anybody. There’s a lot of people out there that care and love you, Hannah. If you can just get to somebody, whatever you can do … just let us know that you’re OK,” said Ryan.

If you have any tips, call the family at (845) 750-3006.

What i don't understand is the reports are saying she was last seen at LAX on Friday but that is not correct because of that pic of her outside the LAX venue on the Saturday. The BF made his connection but it doesnt say when. Her phone showed it was at LAX on the Monday so when did her Ex make his connection?

Yeah, I'm not giving him a pass quite yet with what little we do know with her last known communication. Even if they say he's being totally cooperative.

How scary! I don’t remember a case where somebody went missing from a major international airport before!

OK now things are starting to come in to view. Oh dear. Not good not good at all.

This is the part that makes me give him the side eye.

,“I got tricked pretty much into giving away all my funds for someone I thought I loved.”

Then finding out the "friend that happened to be in the same flight" was her ex.

I wonder if seeing him (or knowing he was there) on that long fight broke her down.
That’s where my mind has gone as well.

I'm leaning to the side that she had a mental breakdown. That very long ride with her ex on board might have left her stewing, then add the comment about stolen funds. The bad thing about this is that she was probably very vulnerable at the time if this is what happened. The posting of her funds being stolen by someone she thought she loved points to the ex as being her issue. Still undecided if he was actually involved or not, but leaning that he was just a catalyst for her in her mind.

So she was last seen a week ago yesterday at the Lebron event. She has not surfaced in all that time. Have her relatives checked with the airline, in case she got a later flight?

It's been said that they planned the trip together before they broke up. They decided to go anyway since things were already planned and booked.
Along the lines of your thoughts, being in those circumstances, maybe it was as simple as her deciding that for whatever reason, she was absolutely not continuing on to New York with him. Then things spiraled from there.

Flight logs would tell if she did or not. You have to have ID to fly now. I'm pretty sure LE would check on that for a missing person's case.
But they're saying her phone did register at LAX on the Monday so where is she if she is still with her phone? Has anyone ever gone missing at an airport before?

People go missing at airports all the time. So many cases. Either dropped off at the airport and never make the flight. Or land at the airport and disappear. As far as like, lost in the airport, or phone pinging at the airport? I don't know. There's this one from last month though. This guy was missing for 3 days from the Denver airport. Found at the airport. Unknown if he was there the whole time.

I swear I heard of a case where the person turned up in the luggage carousel or luggage storage or something. But it may have been a tv show because I can't find the case.

Her and her phone might very well have been back to the airport, but if she actually boarded a plane, there would be a record of it.

And yes, there are quite a few reports of people missing from airports. It's usually found that they left the airport on their own
