Loved ones of Ha'iku resident Hannah Kobayashi are trying tirelessly to find her after she reportedly disappeared while traveling to the mainland.

"We're just trying to not be paralyzed, in a way, not think of the worst," Kobayashi's aunt Larie Pidgeon said.

The 30-year-old was reportedly last seen at the Los Angeles International Airport nearly a week ago.

Pidgeon said Kobayashi had a layover in Los Angeles last Friday on her way to New York for a concert and a photography job, as well as to visit Pidgeon’s sister.

A friend of Kobayashi’s just so happened to be traveling on the same flights as her, Pidgeon added, and last saw her at LAX.

But then Kobayashi missed the flight to New York, which was one of the last of the night.

"That's when everything started getting fuzzy and we're starting to lose contact with her," Pidgeon explained.

A screenshot of messages Pidgeon said Kobayashi sent to the aunt in New York mentioned, "I just finished a very intense spiritual awakening."

Another text apologized for "craziness," adding afterward "was definitely intercepted."

According to Pidgeon, Kobayashi's last text was sent on the same day to her roommate, in which she mentions feeling scared, and that someone might be trying to steal her money and identity.

Since then, relatives have been having trouble getting in touch with her, and her phone appears to be unreachable.

"It (Kobayashi's phone) was pinging in the LAX airport and it no longer... it goes straight to voicemail," Pidgeon said.

"It didn't move from LAX airport so that is where we know that she last was."

However, can't disagree with what seems to be a lot of b.s. I have no idea what's on FB etc. or out there but the caller on Gray's last night was beyond this kind of info but was using info... And he was agreeing and not ditching from the call in...

And yeah, this family is something else. I don't LIKE to say that and the father killed self, she is missing and attention is on it all, so I don't want to add to what they already have going on but something is really wrong here...

So, using her own id, she has purchased a ticket to elsewhere and by herself. It sure looking like her family is throwing out bad info on purpose AND are being told to refund the gfm donations.
I'm thinking they are possibly why she ghosted them.

Yes but she had kids and a husband that she screwed over. I don't think Hannah did anything to try to make it look like a kidnapping either. Huge difference.

No, but she didn't help either. She did send some very strange messages. It's true that she didn't make it look like an abduction, but she could have said "leave me alone" or "I need some time/space" and we wouldn't be here.

LAPD also revealed she had previously "expressed a desire to step away from modern connectivity". Douglas Oldfield - officer in charge of special enforcement who handle missing persons, added: "By looking at her past social media we saw indications and posts that were consistent with someone wishing to disconnect with her phone. We know she does not have her phone on her."

Oldfield went on to explain how Kobayashi had travelled on the MTA train to Union Station in LA - before using her passport and cash to purchase a ticket to the border - which she then crossed on foot.

I don't think she could pull funds from there that fast but not sure how GFM works. And since "missing" she sure couldn't, I wouldn't think, without it giving her away.

Wow, woke up to all this. Clearly there are things said that are coming from elsewhere like FB and I have to try to interpret such. Marriage, green card, things like that, more.

I'm not surprised she is missing voluntarily. Even when this was suspected didn't a family member say they still thought if so, she was under the control or influence of someone else?

Always an excuse or story or so it seems, by the family for any scenario.

I am not surprised as I said but boy, she now has a dead father, national attention, etc. I hope it was all worth it. I AM glad she apparently is alive.

Since an adult, she's probably not going to face much, if anything. Although she likely did lie, and cause major trouble and expense so maybe she will. The one in California previously claimed to be kidnapped, even beat up, etc. and was with a bf the entire time. It also makes me think of that Carly one who rescued or tried to (lie) a child in a diaper on the highway. It makes me think of several cases we've seen. There was that other one, name and state eludes me, but she was a young adult, I think worked at Home Depot, they found something showing she was at the bus station, eventually found in NYC I think, alive, just escaping her life. An old one is the runaway bride. Another was the girl in I think WA who they thought was lost but again purposely hid. There was a college student years ago in Madison, WI that pulled similar. There have been a huge number of them and that's just off the top of my head.

One thing I will say is the way her family has been, they are probably pretty overbearing and they are usually escaping control and rigid rules and high expectations, or alternatively majorly enabling and can't see the writing on the wall right in front of them. I hate to talk that way but it's often the case in cases like this. However, this woman is 30 years old! Not some young adult or child.

It's pretty clear LE had her number pretty quickly and probably know most of the facts already. I still have to go read the links and the news. Just read the posts so far this morning.

Well she wanted to disconnect, how'd that work out for her. Under more scrutiny than ever. And her dad is dead now. I don't put that on her as again, there's some instability there in my opinion to begin with. What she did, or said, may have been his final push or something though to send him over the edge.

It may be legal to go off as an adult anywhere you like and it should be, but do it LIKE an adult, a big girl and just tell people, I am done with this and I am leaving.

Oh then there was that woman was it in that Joshua park, they thought lost or hurt or missing on a hike. There have been tons of cases like this.

If they aren't escaping controlling family or spouses, they are often in trouble or feel they are with bad grades, being kicked out of school, about to be or have been charged with some crime, etc.

Again though she is a THIRTY year old woman.

She's either not real bright, leaving a fairly easy trail, even using her passport or she knows as an adult she can go missing and to Mexico, I doubt there's much they can do unless they can with charges relating to false stories and costs, and that's limited. I doubt she will be forced back or extradited as there's no major crime here.

My comments were all without reading the links yet but doubt there's much in them that would change these basics. Will go read them next.

It's good she's alive and likely safe which is more than can be said for her dad.

It may sound harsh but she, and her family, need some serious help I'd say. I hope they seek it.

Just read the one article and as expected, yeah, she's done nothing wrong... I beg to differ but pretty much figured not much would result for her even due to her lies and worrying her family.

30 years old and going to a NY museum because she aspired to be an artist and photographer. Okayyyyy..... Doesn't sound like much of a realistic adult. I'd guess she'll be back eventually as she doesn't sound like someone who can adult imo. How is she going to support herself in MX. I alternate between she was under too much control and that she was spoiled rotten. I don't know a lot of the background story. And it's probably both.
I will say, and it's harsh and I hate psychobabble and analyzing but there's clear instability with her, and was with her dad, and the family's denial, and even attempt to desperately "spin" things, I hope help is sought.

She became the story of the week or two. Now she's famous as she likely wanted to be.

I came into this late but heard plenty on Gray the other night. I'm glad it's not a case I am going to have to stick out for a long time as not adding new ones here.

She was simply the flavor of the week and I really hope she's happy. Or two weeks. I guess she'll have to find some at a distance and private way to say her goodbyes to her dad.

So what's the financial thing here. I heard a lot of hints about such, also on Gray and have seen them here as well.

I won't even tough on the human trafficking so many jumped to, etc. Not here but out there, even mentioned in the one article.

I do think there is something really wrong in the family dynamics here but not that interested in knowing what it is, I mean dad's suicide alone says something, not sure what, don'tr really want to know. Sad and tragic. Imo we have another selfish brat who can't cope or adult but amazingly she can well enough to plan all of this.

I don't even know if she lived at home or had a steady income. I'm assuming answers to both that seem likely. I did not look at the case even though some had it on but ran into it eventually by accident.

Certain things though were obvious and one right now is this is not someone who is going to make it with no help IF she ever is all alone in Mexico.

I think or suspect too there's a bit more to the story but we aren't going to hear it from officials. As in anyone that she was seen with, was with, is with, etc. is not in trouble if she is willing. She is a fricking 30 year old, about the age most start to really get their sh*t together. She's a bit behind. Family had a fit about LE saying she was 23... Well...

Anyhow, I guess it's clear these kinds of cases irritate me. When intentional. The sheer waste of resources, the selfishness, when there are REAL missing or murdered people out there.

I am glad she's likely alive, would be for anyone. And good luck to her. Hope to never hear of her again after this is finished. Unless of course she was looking for her name to be known and will use it, not that unusual these days either, and totally sickening.
