Maui woman reported missing while traveling, family seeks help finding her

Loved ones of Ha'iku resident Hannah Kobayashi are trying tirelessly to find her after she reportedly disappeared while traveling to the mainland.

"We're just trying to not be paralyzed, in a way, not think of the worst," Kobayashi's aunt Larie Pidgeon said.

The 30-year-old was reportedly last seen at the Los Angeles International Airport nearly a week ago.

Pidgeon said Kobayashi had a layover in Los Angeles last Friday on her way to New York for a concert and a photography job, as well as to visit Pidgeon’s sister.

A friend of Kobayashi’s just so happened to be traveling on the same flights as her, Pidgeon added, and last saw her at LAX.

But then Kobayashi missed the flight to New York, which was one of the last of the night.

"That's when everything started getting fuzzy and we're starting to lose contact with her," Pidgeon explained.

A screenshot of messages Pidgeon said Kobayashi sent to the aunt in New York mentioned, "I just finished a very intense spiritual awakening."

Another text apologized for "craziness," adding afterward "was definitely intercepted."

According to Pidgeon, Kobayashi's last text was sent on the same day to her roommate, in which she mentions feeling scared, and that someone might be trying to steal her money and identity.

Since then, relatives have been having trouble getting in touch with her, and her phone appears to be unreachable.

"It (Kobayashi's phone) was pinging in the LAX airport and it no longer... it goes straight to voicemail," Pidgeon said.

"It didn't move from LAX airport so that is where we know that she last was."

Ok so the GFM is over $20k now. Also, why won't they release the actual video where she is shown getting on the metro with someone?

This is getting ridiculous now. If they want to find her then the metro has cctv right so they can see where she got off with this person, can't they?

Something fishy here IMO.

Yeah, I’m starting to wonder if they know a heck of a lot more than they’re telling the public.

What!!!!. I don't get it. The FB link wouldn't load for me so here is a media link.

He jumped off a parking structure near LAX, police say.

"The 58-year-old father had been searching for his daughter, 30-year-old Hannah Kobayashi, after she missed her connecting flight to New York from LAX. Hannah was supposed to meet with family on Nov. 8, according to family.

Kobayashi died after he jumped off from a parking structure near LAX sometime around 4 a.m. on Sunday, police confirm."

Is this sounding suspicious or what? Do LE have video of this or a suicide note so they definitely know it was suicide?

Also, why was he back at LAX? Everything seems to have happened at LAX so the airport police need to be on this. This is all pretty weird goings on - Including the non release of the details of the person last seen with Hannah. Isn't that who they need to track down? Yet they won't release it?

Ryan Kobayashi, the father of a Hawaii woman who is missing in Los Angeles, died over the weekend by suicide, the county coroner's office confirmed Monday.

On Monday, the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner issued its finding listing the manner of death as suicide and the cause as multiple blunt force traumatic injuries, indicating he was found in a parking lot.

Missing Hawaii woman’s family ‘holding on by a thread,’ still searching after tragedy

Hannah Kobayashi’s family is still searching for the missing 31-year-old Maui woman who disappeared two weeks ago after her phone was last located in the Los Angeles International Airport (LAX).

New information in the case has led to a tragic development for Hannah’s loved ones.

Several members of Hannah Kobayashi’s family — including her father, Ryan Kobayashi — traveled to Los Angeles after her disappearance. There was tragic news for members of the Kobayashi family after they got word on Saturday, Nov. 23 that Hannah is likely being held against her will in L.A.

“We’re getting driplets, you know, from the investigators. We just know that it’s like, what they’ve been telling us is that it’s serious,” said Hannah’s aunt, Larie Pidgeon. “The words like human trafficking, abduction, those are becoming a reality in our life. And I think that’s another reason that, you know, Ryan just, he just couldn’t handle that reality, you know?”

According to the L.A. County Coroner’s Office, Ryan Kobayashi took his own life during the weekend of Nov. 23. The family is adamant that the story stays focused on Hannah, who could still be in danger.

“Hannah is still missing,” Pidgeon said. “We’re holding on by a thread, but we’re not giving up, Bryce.”

An LAPD spokesman said there is an open investigation regarding Hannah but would not confirm any other information. The former special agent in charge of Homeland Security Investigations Honolulu said withholding information is not unusual when it comes to potential human trafficking.

“They will look and take steps incrementally to gain ground. Sometimes they will lose ground and put out information to see if they can trigger any type of activity. But in in this case, I’m sure they’ve pulled out all stops. And, you know, there are probably many, many agencies that are engaged in this activity,” said former HSI Honolulu special agent in charge Wayne Wills.

Hannah’s family who are still in L.A. are focusing their efforts on Union train station, the Arts District and the Crypto.com Arena and hope that a break in the case is still possible 14 days after surveillance video captured Hannah with an unidentified person around 10 p.m. at a subway station near the Crypto arena on Monday, Nov. 11.

“We’re hoping by canvasing, you know, with her poster that if someone sees her, they remember the conversation they have. You know, most of the tips that are coming in are through fliers,” Pidgeon said.

So they got word on 23rd that she is being held against her will. The same day her father committed suicide?

So why don't they release the video so that this unidentified person gets identified ?

I am now wondering if this is actually a kidnapping/ransom situation going on here.

Eg. From the link-

I'm now wondering if he did find her and she told him off. I do wonder what he found out in his searching. Something major happened to him.

Wouldn't that make you more determined to hold on though and follow through?

please be mindful that this is all the information we have from LAPD and we’re just trying to keep everyone as up to date as possible. we are just as frustrated as everyone else with the limited amount of information we have been given by authorities, but we still have to believe they are doing what they can at this time. we would also appreciate it if we don’t have armchair investigators commenting here or making their own speculations. the more days go by, the harder this gets for us all as a family while also grieving the loss of my father. please give us some grace and we need the public now more than ever to just keep posting everyday. we are not giving up.

Boarding a Greyhound with no obvious others. Seems willingly.

Her actions vs texts to family sure sounds like she was lying to them about her plans.
Still positive she left willingly but still not sure if it's still willingly.
