Oh yeah, that part too!!! This all sounds just a bit or more dirty...I'm sure the RPD would've appreciated a heads up.
Yeah the leak over the edge and last kill was in Wiki. The way they caught him, IIRC, is that someone found the body of his latest kill just a day or so after he'd killed her. They then put surveillance on the bridge over the body and caught him taking a leak over the edge.
The way they got him to confess is one of the cops interrogating him said: I'd hate to think your girlfriend was involved in this. That's when he cracked and confessed.
He told them where bodies were left. He rode around with them while they looked at each place. It was the middle of winter when they caught him and they couldn't find one of the bodies he told them was out there. So one of the cops comes back to the car and tells him they can't find the body. He gets out of the car and goes to the stream and points the flashlight down right onto her face under ice.
Very interesting side note.I watched an episode of Web of Lies on ID. A 17 year old kid set up a Facebook account using the picture of an extremely good looking young woman. He got some guy to believe it was a real account and then met him and killed him. (abbreviated story) The police confiscated his computer and found he'd tried to use this profile to lure in others. The cops believe he was a serial killer in waiting. He was convicted and will never see the light of day again. That's one serial killer stopped at the first one, if you believe the police theory. I do.
An interesting side note is that the victims father had a warrant for his arrest on a thirty year old murder charge. He was arrested during his son's murder investigation.
Yes. He killed a boy and a girl. He did not serve his full sentence. What else is new. Then he started killing Women in Rochester. Primarily prostitutes. He did some very sick things. He found out when she was an adult he had a daughter. IIRC she was conceived when he was in Vietnam. He didn't see combat. But made up stories. He was a clerk. She knew what he did. She chose to pursue the relationship. Including getting her kids close to their grandfather. They sent him their class artwork, Letters. I saw the Documentary about this. I believe it was 2008. The same year he died.About thirty years ago Rochester had a serial killer named Arthur Shawcross. I'll tell more about him later. He had killed two children in Watertown(?) New York and was let out of prison after his sentence was served. NYS Department of Corrections attempted to settle him in one town after another and each town telling them Uh-No. They are required by law to tell a community when they relocate a felon, IIRC. So finally they dumped him in Rochester and didn't tell anyone about it.
So a lot of prostitutes started being found dead around the city. The police caught on to there being a serial killer around, but nobody had told them Shawcross was living here. His crime was different, but he would have been on the police radar I'm sure.
I have to take out the trash and go to Wegmans, I'll continue on about him later.
I think it was just incompetence.Oh yeah, that part too!!! This all sounds just a bit or more dirty...
I was living in that area when he was prowling. I was really scared!I just watched a new documentary about Richard Ramirez "The Night Stalker". It's on Netflix. 4 parts called "Night Stalker". It is detailed and really focuses on the victims. The graphic details yes. But how certain evidence tied the crimes together because he was all over the place. And his MO was really unlike others. It is being presented mainly by the 2 officers on the case. It did make me very angry. He was less than sewage.
Ten years for something like that is disgusting. I see no excuse for it.IIRC with Shawcross I think he only served 10 yrs for the child murders. I remember the boy he use to take fishing and his first name was Jack. The little girl was in the river weighed down with rocks.
I would be too. He preyed on older people. Couples. Men. Women. Would abduct kids as a solitary crime. Molest them and release them. He didn't kill any of the children. Didn't matter their race, Age. He was all over L.A. He would steal cars. So always on the move. Used guns, Knives, ligature, Manual strangulation, Objects to beat, His shoe. No one else had that kind of MO.I was living in that area when he was prowling. I was really scared!
