To start. I have always found Serial Killers fascinating. What makes them do what they do?. I know I am not the only one. This is the place to talk about it. I'll start. Who do you find the most fascinating and why?.

I don't doubt there are crimes that are connected that have never been connected but I think statistics bear out in general that the number of male killers to female (whether serial or not) has a pretty large gap.

However, I do agree women would most likely have a better chance of being far smarter and have their crimes never connected, self never suspected, etc. Lol. Not that I'd stick up for any female serial killer... Or killer... Who was guilty.

So I agree with ya both. And apparently emu too admits women are smarter. At least in this thread. :D

You have a good point. Dorthea Puente used drugs and poison. And her backyard. No one suspected her for a long time. Who would?. Granny Smith, So caring and kind. Almost all poisons are detectable now. But yes, Slowly poison someone slowly and no one suspects and a no autopsy is requested. I would make it look like an accident. Ohhh. Awwww. Sorry about that.

NIce of you to FINALLY admit the truth... Women ARE SMARTER. :highfive:

but there are plenty that they don't know about and not linked as sk crimes. I would give credit to a lot of females to be smart enough to change up their MO and places plus a few males.

Mel is much smarter than you two.

Okay. Who is arguing? Not moi. There is a big group of women here of well above average intelligence, it is awesome! Most seem to recognize a nincompoop when they see one too! I mean what more could we ask for? I love it :shower:

Are you over your barfing because you sure have that mouth open wide again... I'm pretty sure you'll be required to mop it up yourself if such occurs...

Be careful or I'll wish you a barfing Uber passenger....

Well they just don't kill like men. The closest I can think of would be Aileen Wornous. Using a gun. And random. Others I can think of were motivated by greed and it was personal. Like Belle Gunness. They caught what she did. But she fled before they could catch her. Others, Marrying to kill for money and get away with it for awhile but eventually caught. Nurses, Poisoning. Wives who marry and every husband dies and they finally get caught. Life insurance. I just can't find any female serial killers that are female and never caught that are recent. There are some from the past. Single killers as you say, I agree that there are some out there who are on the run. It's just they don't usually kill at random.

Yes. Most just can't help themselves but by sticking to the same MO. But yes it's happened. Even good old intelligent Teddy Bundy kept the same MO. But I think that was probably his arrogance that he would never get caught. WRONG!

Here ya go Guessy. It is frightening how many killers, Serial killers, And possible non linked serial killers are out there. I know this is what you were saying.

I'd agree. You don't see the same motives in women. It is money, it isn't rape or sexually motivated nor in most cases is it for control or because the man is leaving them (very common in single murders by men, wife leaving, girlfriend leaving, loss of control over her, etc.)... Women generally derive no benefit from killing random people, they have a reason for who they kill and generally know them, marry them or again for money...

Of course Wournos was different in a lot of ways but I would say she is an exception certainly. Nurses who kill I feel are almost a species of their own... Is it the power or feeling Godlike... To put someone out of their suffering...? Decide who is worthy to live or die and some aren't...?

Most of the nurses who kill. Female and male, They wanted to kill and weren't doing it to put anyone out of their misery. They had the opportunity and means to kill them, Yes. A doctor in the UK "Harold Shipman" killed 250 of his patients. He chose the elderly because they would be expected more to die. Jeanine Jones was another, Donald Harvey. Aimee Archer was a long time ago, Jane Toppan. Alot more. But that's what comes to mind.

I just watched something on Wournos. She had a really terrible childhood, really terrible. It doesn't excuse her actions, but good lord I feel sorry for her.
From watching the documentary "Aileen". Pregnant, Kicked out to live in the woods at 13 in cold Michigan. Mother left her with her grandfather before that. Her mother was interviewed and she was just nonchalant and cold about Aileen. Like subject was being talked about that she had no interest in. You other teens constantly belittled her, But that didn't stop the boys from paying her for sexual favors. Such a double standard. Gang raped living in the woods by a group of boys. She had one true friend then and up until she was executed, Dawn. Personally I don't think she should have been executed. I think she was very mentally ill. Her last interview she was talking about the mother ship and the whole conversation was just not rational. In the background the guards were snickering. They should have been reprimanded for it. I believe that because of her abuse she viewed the men she killed as they were raping her, In her mind. Men have not been allowed to be executed being more coherent than her. I don't usually feel for serial killers and usually feel they should be executed. Even single killers, Woman or man. Lisa Montgomery, Bye. Susan Smith should have been as far as I am concerned. Darlie Routier, I wish Texas would do it already. I am convinced she is guilty. That her sons got in the way of her lifestyle she wanted. Darlie is for Darlie. Completely self absorbed.

It just shows life has been nuts here as I see this response was two weeks ago.

From what you say then it has to be I imagine in most cases that power, control or feeling of being all powerful with someone else's life in their hands... That isn't so different than some serial killers, the fear they see and get off on, the power, etc...

It might sound a bit simplistic but I feel like Wuornos 1) had every reason to think men were men; and 2) was going to get them so to speak before they got her; and/or 3) had a thought on some level that men use and abuse me and always have so I'm going to do that to them before they can do that to me or I'll turn their weaknesses against them and again, get them or get them back and they are not going to get the best of me again...

She is a unique one. She did kill and it is inexcusable but one can see maybe somewhat how she came to such a point... But still, she killed....

I disagree about Darlie Routier. I think her husband had a lot to do with it. When the cops asked him why she was attacked he said something to the effect of "They looked through the window and saw those amazing double D's"

They also found a sock between a couple of houses away from their home that belonged to the Routiers washed laundry. Nobody can explain how it got there.
