To start. I have always found Serial Killers fascinating. What makes them do what they do?. I know I am not the only one. This is the place to talk about it. I'll start. Who do you find the most fascinating and why?.

Interesting. Why do they use that picture of her? One would think she died in the 60s and it was the 80s. I thought I was reading about an even older case at first. They also don't give her age when she died so I googled it, 39.

I wonder why they thought the body was not hers but later figured out it was.

I would not take his word for it he gave her sleeping pills but maybe they confirmed it. I doubt it though since they could not even determine the body was hers. Not knocking LE just saying he claims that is what he did... Just the word of a serial killer.

I am actually impressed that another jurisdiction recognized similarities in the cases back that long ago. I suppose it was major news but still it was not all that common to work together and no database to compare such things...

So he did not take responsibility for all of these murders...

About thirty years ago Rochester had a serial killer named Arthur Shawcross. I'll tell more about him later. He had killed two children in Watertown(?) New York and was let out of prison after his sentence was served. NYS Department of Corrections attempted to settle him in one town after another and each town telling them Uh-No. They are required by law to tell a community when they relocate a felon, IIRC. So finally they dumped him in Rochester and didn't tell anyone about it.

So a lot of prostitutes started being found dead around the city. The police caught on to there being a serial killer around, but nobody had told them Shawcross was living here. His crime was different, but he would have been on the police radar I'm sure.

I have to take out the trash and go to Wegmans, I'll continue on about him later.

I am curious to hear more.

As far as the placement of someone boy where I come from had public notification and people yelled any time a sexual offender (not serial killer) was going to be placed in our town, their town, etc. One of the last ones I recall ended up placed not far from the junior high, high school and two elementaries, probably about a two block walk to two of those... They have a bit of trouble with any neighbor wanting them of course and not all will rent to them and people would get after those willing to rent to them as well. Rightfully so imo. Some landlords though, they don't care as often their rent is guaranteed, don't ask me through what program or how that is but it seemed to be... Nothing happened that I can recall but the very placement near schools was yelled about too and again rightfully so. Of course LE guaranteed he would be monitored, etc. I don't think our LE wanted him either, they had no choice though. I could go on but won't, I will wait for your further story on this Rochester one...

@Mel70 is right. Put them right smack next door (not just neighborhood) to those responsible for their release. That NEVER happens. Next door to their children's schools? Never happens.

Shawcross would often go to the Dunkin Donuts and talk to the cops about the serial killer case and ask how the search was going.

Wow, I just finished Wiki on it.

First of all, talk about too close for comfort for you. I cannot even imagine finding you lived that close to someone like that!!

Second, what the he77??!!! What a system, or a joke of one. By the way how did he get out and get a job with public water works?? Most places I have ever lived you have to know someone and a convict would likely never get such a job much less most average citizens.

He saved a corrections officer and got out earlier on an already short sentence??

This is entirely outrageous. All of these people dead, 12 is it, due to his being released!! And it took them that long!!
