Judge sets $10,000 bail for mother of Almond girl who was subject of Sept. 11 Amber Alert

A judge set a $10,000 cash bail Sept. 16 for an Almond woman charged with helping a convicted sex offender living with children hide from police.

Chelsie R. Lehmann, 31, of Almond, faces charges of aiding a felon and encouraging the violation of probation, extended supervision or parole. If convicted, Lehmann faces a maximum five years and nine months in prison. Lehmann's next appearance is scheduled for Sept. 26.

More info as to why her mom has been charged. :gaah:

STEVENS POINT, Wis. (WSAW) - Bond has been set at $10,000 for the mother facing charges in relation to an AMBER Alert in Portage County.
Portage County District Attorney Cass Cousins has also released new information about the investigation.
An AMBER Alert was issued Sept. 11 for Chelsie Lehmann’s 6-year-old daughter. The girl was found safely on Saturday.
Cousins issued a media release Tuesday morning stating Chelsie Lehmann and her minor children recently began residing in a home in Almond owned and occupied by Jordan Coyle.
Coyle, after having been convicted of a felony child sex offense approximately 16 years ago, is a registered sex offender and has conditions not to reside with children.

When the Department of Corrections learned that children were living at the residence, they issued a warrant for Coyle’s arrest.
Coyle began actively avoiding arrest and hid from law enforcement. This included an instance when he fled on Sept. 9 after police arrived at his residence to execute the warrant.
Lehmann is alleged to have aided or harbored Coyle during this time.
She is also alleged to have permitted or encouraged him to violate the terms of his supervision by having ongoing contact with her 6-year-old daughter.

The charges are the result of law enforcement scrutiny of Lehmann after her six-year-old walked away from home on Sept. 11 and was missing for the next two days.
Police issued an AMBER Alert upon the belief that the child was potentially with Coyle in some unknown location.
Coyle and the child were ultimately located hiding in nearby woods in the late afternoon on Sept. 13.
Coyle was taken into custody without incident. The investigation indicates that the child had formed a close relationship with Coyle, calling him “Dad,” and had left her home two days earlier likely looking for him.
There is no indication that the child was taken by Coyle from the residence by use of force or threats, but rather was seeking him out.
The child was recovered unhurt. The missing persons investigation revealed evidence that Ms. Lehmann has previously assisted Coyle in avoiding arrest and allowed contact with her daughter, contrary to his supervision conditions.
Lehman is in custody pending her initial appearance on Sept. 26. Coyle is in custody on a DOC hold and pending the filing of criminal charges. A court date for Coyle will be set once the investigation is complete.
At this time, both are presumed innocent until evidence establishes their guilt beyond a reasonable doubt. Further investigation into this incident remains ongoing.
District Attorney Cass Cousins further states: “The missing persons complaint and AMBER Alert has caused tremendous fear and concern in the community. Lehman is alleged, through her actions, to have aided a felon avoid lawful arrest and thereby directly contributed to causing this alarming situation. Thankfully, through law enforcement’s tireless, around-the-clock efforts, the child was found safe in less than 48 hours. While current information indicates that the child was not physically abducted from the residence by threats or force, but rather left seeking to find Mr. Coyle as he hid in the woods and avoided arrest on his warrant, the State intends to prosecute all applicable criminal offenses from this incident. I would like to thank all of the law enforcement agencies and other county organizations involved thus far for their impressive efforts to locate the child safely.”

Mom of the Year. Ugh.

I think our educated guesses with the info we had guessed just about all of that except the fact there was a warrant they were attempting to serve that he was hiding from and her helping him. So they knew children were in the home and served a warrant. The other question would be how Ruby hooked up with him. So she went looking for him and I'd guess he was avoiding the warrant but somehow they hooked up. Pretty dumb of him to keep her overnight, etc. when he already had a warrant about children in the home.

And that she called him dad, how messed up is that? So her mom's brother is her dad, imagine the confusion by a certain age that would cause... I think this family is likely seriously messed up.

I think he is mom's brother in law. I may be wrong.

The article above seems to indicate he didn't take her but she left the home looking for him so that appears to be a grey area. He didn't abduct her therefore, if that is correct. I think he is the brother of the child's father. He was in woods near the house, as i understand it, so she wasn't in his home, another grey area. The mother now being arrested is confusing me so i think I will wait and see what happens/comes out in court.

Yes, it is a gray area. My cynical side says of course they'd say that to minimize his taking her but regardless he had her overnight, etc. and he shouldn't have even if she went looking for him and found him on her own.

The warrant was because he was living in a home with children which he was not to do. Her mom undoubtedly knew this too and she also helped him avoid arrest.

Officially charged now. It also explains the confusing living arrangements and their relationships

Mother of 6-year-old at center of Amber Alert case will stand trial

Chelsie Lehmann will face trial in connection to her 6-year-old daughter’s Amber Alert case.

Chelsie Lehmann faces charges of aiding or harboring a felon and encouraging violation of probation, extended supervision or parole, according to the Portage County District Attorney’s Office.

According to online court records, Chelsie Lehmann was in court Nov. 10 for a preliminary hearing. During that hearing, the court said there was probable cause that Chelsie Lehmann committed a felony and she would face trial.

Her attorney requested a new judge to preside over the case.

Chelsie Lehmann is scheduled to appear in court for an arraignment hearing next, on Dec. 1.

Chelsie Lehmann and her 6-year-old daughter, Ruby Lehmann, lived with Jordan Coyle, the DA said. Coyle has been found guilty on two counts of second-degree sexual assault of a child in 2009, according to online court records. That case was filed in 2008. The DA confirmed Coyle is a registered sex offender and is not allowed to live with children.

The DA said that after the Department of Corrections had learned Coyle was living with a child, it issued a warrant for his arrest.

The DA said Coyle was “actively avoiding the arrest and hid from law enforcement.” Police went to his house Sept. 9 and he fled, per the DA. Chelsie Lehmann allegedly “aided or harbored” Coyle at the time.

The DA added Chelsie Lehmann allegedly “permitted or encouraged him to violate the terms of his supervision by having ongoing contact with her 6-year-old daughter.”

Yeah the child apparently went looking for him rather than he took her - as far as I can make of it anyway. (And if we can believe that.)

And evidently found no evidence of any kind of sexual assault (or assault of any kind, for that matter) or they would have charged him for it. It "almost" sounds like she was better off with him than her own mom.
He wasn't to be with children wasn't that the case? He should have been returning her immediately in that case.

Yeah, mom's no prize either undoubtedly.
