Amber Alert issued for missing Almond 6-year-old girl

An Amber Alert has been issued for a missing 6-year-old girl, Ruby Lehman.

The Portage County Sheriff's Office said she was last seen at her grandmother's house in Almond. The sheriff's office did not say what day she was last seen. Shortly after arriving home, a suspect vehicle, believed to be driven by her uncle, Jordan Coyle, stopped at the home and then left. She has not been seen since. The sheriff's office also didn't say where the home was located.

Lehman was last seen wearing a lavender dress with smiley faces and white shoes with Lilo and Stitch on them.

The sheriff's office said she has green eyes, brown hair and is about four feet tall.

The sheriff's office said Coyle is 34 years old and has red hair with a beard and mustache. He is over six feet tall and weighs about 246 pounds with blue eyes. He has a peace symbol on the left breast and a dinosaur, puppy, butterfly and a cat tattoo on his arm.

The sheriff's office said he's driving a white 2001 Ford F250 truck with a Wisconsin license plate number WC2249. There is a toolbox in the bed of the truck and the tailgate has paint peeling off and showing silver.

According to the Portage County Sheriff's Office on Sept. 13, grid searches were being performed around 10 a.m. on Saturday by around 50 officers in southern Portage County. With help from the FBI and other state agencies, they were able to determine Coyle was still in Portage County and that he was hiding out somewhere in southern Portage County.

The assistant chief from the Plover Police Department, Brian Noel, was doing his search near a forest in the town of Almond by a school near Highway County J and 3rd Avenue. There, the sheriff's office said officers located Coyle's truck, a white 2001 Ford pick-up truck, around 1:50 p.m.

Deputies and Officers were then dispatched to the area and set up drones to search for Lehmann and Coyle. Both Coyle and Lehmann were found in the woods. Lehmann was found around 4:47 p.m. The sheriff's office said Coyle was trying to run away from authorities in the woods, but was eventually taken into custody around 4:49 p.m.

There was no encampment setup in the woods. The sheriff's office said they received a tip the day before that he might be in a wooded area.

The Portage County Sheriff's Office said Lehmann is being medically evaluated.

Charges are pending for Coyle.

BREAKING: ‘We got her,’ sheriff says as law enforcement rescue missing Almond girl

Portage County Sheriff Mike Lukas shared the news during a press conference outside the Sheriff’s Office, standing alongside officials from the FBI and Wisconsin Division of Criminal Investigation.

“I wanted to get this out right away to let everybody know that we successfully found Ruby,” Lukas said. “She is safe and sound, and also, Jordan Coyle is in custody with charges pending. It’s just been two days of a roller coaster ride here at the sheriff’s office. Without these people standing alongside me and the resources given to us, I don’t know if we would have had this resolved—especially in such a short time.”

Lukas said officers launched grid searches around 10 a.m. Saturday, crisscrossing rural roads with squads, drones, ATVs, and dogs. About 50 vehicles spread across southern Portage County, focusing on wooded areas after investigators determined Coyle was likely still in the county.

Assistant Chief Brian Noel’s discovery of the flattened grass leading into the school forest broke open the search. Tactical teams from Stevens Point, Plover, and the sheriff’s office were called in, using armored MRAPs to move officers safely into the woods in case weapons were involved.

Coyle had fled the truck, Lukas said, and was trying to hide. Officers eventually found him a distance away, and he surrendered without a fight. Ruby was nearby, carrying a handheld game.

“She was scared, but she had a smile on her face,” Lukas said. “That made my day.”

Officers faced hot, humid conditions while searching. Lukas said water and food were supplied throughout the day to keep SWAT and perimeter teams from dehydration as the search stretched into late afternoon.

Every available tool was deployed, Lukas said, including thermal cameras, tracking devices, and specialized surveillance equipment from federal and state partners. “You just said them all,” Lukas told reporters. “We used every asset we possibly could.”

Ruby was undergoing medical evaluation Saturday night, Lukas said. Her family has been notified that she is safe. Charges against Coyle are pending as investigators continue to process multiple scenes tied to the abduction.

Coyle would likely see a judge for bond mid-week, Lukas said.

You probably won't hear any more about this case from now on, as they will need to now protect the girl's identity. I also noticed the uncle's sexual offence was when he was 17 so that was 14 years ago - long before she was even born. Hopefully she is unharmed.

BTW I have never known a 6 year old girl to be 4 foot tall. Maybe she is close to 7 years.
We may hear if he ends up charged. Otherwise we just need to remember to check Wisconsin Courts. HE will show up and his charges generally.

If his other offense was that long ago, he may not have had many conditions other than having to register as a sex offender and keep his address current which we know often isn't done re the address.

I am glad she is safe. Unharmed or unaffected I'd not be sure of.

How do we know the percentile if we don't know her weight? Or was her weight given too somewhere?

ETA - OK i just saw her weight was given as 100 pounds. That's about 7 stone.
I don't care about the percentiles. 4' and 100 pounds is a skinny person so something is wrong with the weight or height, you're right. It could be that grandma just guessed at it.

Just catching up with all the posts of her being found.

Like the grid search. Comes across to me as the FBI or someone got a cell phone signal maybe? The tip about him being in a wooded area makes me wonder. It's kind of vague, Portage has many of those.

There is much we will likely never know. If there was no encampment were they sleeping in the truck? Did he have food or anything with or how and where did they eat? Did they just move to that location that day maybe? Hard to say.

Maybe they were supervised at home but I doubt it with what we know, so presumably he had access to her prior to this and I hope no SA ever went on but it seems a bit unlikely. So why take off with her? I have a lot of thoughts on possible scenarios like for instancIe an argument, but they are all speculation so I won't go into them.

It's good to see a great operation and a safe recovery though.

She only went missing on the 11th and was found on the Sat so that was only a couple of days so hopefully she is not harmed.

Are you envisioning someone taller? According to the body mass calculator, that's obese. I'm wondering if she's getting a healthy diet or has a medical issue. Either way, she didn't need this trauma. :(

Well 100 lbs is about 7 stone. 7 x 14 lbs = 98 lbs. I was 10st (140 lbs) at 5' 8" aged 16 and i was not obese, skinny in fact, so 7 stone at 4' tall sounds about right to me.

I'm 5' 5" and weigh 130. I'm not overweight or underweight. I'm in the middle range for healthy.

I want to stress her weight has no bearing on the crime. Just bothers me as far as her overall health.

And 5'5" is nearly a foot and a half taller than 4' is.

I'm right with you on this. It has no bearing other than concern for her health, especially in the long term.

AI gave me that answer actually after entering the weight and height.

Had I thought about it, I was often around 100 to 120 as a young adult at 5.75 feet So I was slender, 100 would be my low and was too thin really. So I guess 100 pounds at 4' probably wouldn't be skinny.

It doesn't really matter in the scheme of things although if really off, it may have made it harder to recognize her in the Amber Alert. I was just responding with the answer I got re the height and weight.
