The Federal Bureau of Investigation is now involved in the ongoing search for a missing/endangered 11-year-old Colorado Springs boy who went missing Monday afternoon, and the task force investigating his disappearance is organizing a team of volunteers to start searching for him.

Gannon Stauch was believed to be a runaway after he left his home southeast of Colorado Springs between 3:15 and 4 p.m. on Monday. But as the week progressed, his disappearance was upgraded to a missing/endangered person case.

His stepmother said he left his home on foot to play at a friend’s house down the street on Monday afternoon, according to the sheriff’s office. Deputies and major crimes detectives had taken “extraordinary steps” to locate the boy, the sheriff’s office said. They were actively searching for evidence and taking witness statements, a sheriff’s office news release issued earlier this week read.

“He’s very young, it’s dark and cold outside and we want to bring Gannon to safety,” the sheriff’s said in a Facebook post earlier this week.

On Thursday afternoon, the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office and other task force members, as well as Stauch’s parents, hosted a news conference to update the community on his disappearance, discuss the steps being taken in the investigation, and to notify people in the area that they are organizing volunteers to begin a community search effort in coming days.

El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Lt. Mitch Mahalko said the sheriff’s office received the investigation on Tuesday afternoon and started doing interviews and collecting video surveillance and talking to neighbors, working to collect new leads.

He said that the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children and FBI got involved after the case was upgraded to a missing/endangered child case. The FBI’s team specializes in search and rescue and “will be a good partner” in the investigation, Mahalko said.

He said the investigation was active and that authorities were conducting interviews with witnesses and collecting evidence – exhausting every lead they receive.

Mahalko said investigators were looking at “persons of interest” in the case as people who might be able to give them additional information on Stauch’s whereabouts.

He declined to say where authorities had been searching but confirmed that investigators had been in contact with some trash companies in El Paso County and in the Lorson Ranch area.

Kirby stressed that people with tips should report them to their tip line – 719-520-6666 – and not on social media because any tips sent to the sheriff’s office on social media will not be considered.

They have no burden of proof to have to give. That is what the state has to do. All they have to do is create doubt.
Well being Al is probably one of the biggest witnesses, they didn't even create doubt and in no way proved she was insane. Not even a great attempt.

As for burden of proof of her doing the deeds, i don't think there is any lack of that, prosecution actually has too much maybe they can share where it could almost saturate. it isn't a case of reasonable doubt, it is an insanity defense.

Letecia Stauch pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity, but the state asserts she knew right from wrong when she cleaned up the scene of the crime and hid evidence, including putting Gannon’s body in a suitcase, driving it all the way from their home in El Paso County, Colorado, to Pensacola, Florida, and dumping the suitcase over a bridge railing. She had reported the child missing on the day of the murder, authorities said.

<snip>

In his opening statement, defense lawyer Will Cook did not dispute that the killing happened but advised jurors against prejudging the case based on widespread media coverage.

“There is no explanation for it,” he said of the killing. “I don’t have one.”

He maintained that his client had dissociative identity disorder and experienced both physical and sexual abuse at the hands of her mother’s lovers while growing up.

They had the bridge worker/checker etc. guy up today that found his body.

I hate buzz words or terms as I call them. Personality disorders, identity disorders, psycho whatever, socio whatever, narcissists, etc. As many say, they may have one or another or have been diagnosed with this or that but they DON'T KILL or use it as an excuse. Not saying there may not be truly impaired people who don't know right from wrong, etc. or even those who have more trouble knowing right from wrong or stopping anger or an impulse but still it isn't an excuse in most cases and means you shouldn't be out on the street.

She, however, IS NOT one of them. Listen to all the calls between her and Al, etc. And more.

I don't think our system is all that great but knowing right from wrong I do think is one thing they have right and is KEY. And she sure did know it.

I watched a lot of it last night, but she was online for hours. I learned a lot from the conversations between L and A. I don’t know how he kept from killing her himself.
Yeah, I clearly am not going to keep up with this trial as to watching all testimony. I did so far see a ton of Al's who I think is going to be one of the key ones.

It kind of bites that there aren't many summaries on it with those I watch, etc. on YT as most of them are at Vallow, MANY I watch are attending so no time for them to keep up on Stauch.

Daybell has plenty and that includes reporters like Nate and Justin.

Hard to believe but I am caught up on Stauch I think. Apparently after Day 3 they had a break until Friday/today. No idea why. Anyone know? It starts in an hour live at Crime Talk. I don't have the day off but don't work until later but much to do, not sure how much I will get to hear. Police officer was on stand at end of Day 3 and just finishing I believe. He was first one (but not alone) to respond to T's report of Gannon as a runaway.

Well unbelievably I am almost caught up with testimony. Today, day four, they had mostly LE types. The coroner, an investigator/LE lady who looked into the Stauch's finances and so on. All good and credible on the stand with a few questions here and there by defense or jury.

We are all used to this kind of testimony and while very important, they are also expected type of witnesses and testimony. Then towards the end of the day, prosecution put up a coworker of Harley's/a friend i'd say or sort of one. This had some interesting things and there are texts it hints at that weren't shared. Yet or maybe they won't be, remains to be seen. But this coworker let Harley and Letecia stay at her house and she and Harley picked up T from the hospital and during the ride to the friend's house T took Harley's phone and turned location off (this friend had never met her mother before). And then while T had Harley's phone in the back seat (Harley was driving and friend in passenger front seat) and she texted the friend as if she was Harley (Harley's phone) and asked if it was all right if her mom stayed at her house too)....! So not a lot but a few things there and I have a feeling the texts show more (Harley to friend) but they didn't for some reason ask for that content. Also Harley was at work upset (where usually she was professional, etc.) and some other things. So this was interesting.

But EVEN MORE SO, the final witness of the day oh boy someone from the neighborhood... I hope to continue on a recap of that but Snit is crowding me off the keyboard!
