The Federal Bureau of Investigation is now involved in the ongoing search for a missing/endangered 11-year-old Colorado Springs boy who went missing Monday afternoon, and the task force investigating his disappearance is organizing a team of volunteers to start searching for him.

Gannon Stauch was believed to be a runaway after he left his home southeast of Colorado Springs between 3:15 and 4 p.m. on Monday. But as the week progressed, his disappearance was upgraded to a missing/endangered person case.

His stepmother said he left his home on foot to play at a friend’s house down the street on Monday afternoon, according to the sheriff’s office. Deputies and major crimes detectives had taken “extraordinary steps” to locate the boy, the sheriff’s office said. They were actively searching for evidence and taking witness statements, a sheriff’s office news release issued earlier this week read.

“He’s very young, it’s dark and cold outside and we want to bring Gannon to safety,” the sheriff’s said in a Facebook post earlier this week.

On Thursday afternoon, the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office and other task force members, as well as Stauch’s parents, hosted a news conference to update the community on his disappearance, discuss the steps being taken in the investigation, and to notify people in the area that they are organizing volunteers to begin a community search effort in coming days.

El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Lt. Mitch Mahalko said the sheriff’s office received the investigation on Tuesday afternoon and started doing interviews and collecting video surveillance and talking to neighbors, working to collect new leads.

He said that the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children and FBI got involved after the case was upgraded to a missing/endangered child case. The FBI’s team specializes in search and rescue and “will be a good partner” in the investigation, Mahalko said.

He said the investigation was active and that authorities were conducting interviews with witnesses and collecting evidence – exhausting every lead they receive.

Mahalko said investigators were looking at “persons of interest” in the case as people who might be able to give them additional information on Stauch’s whereabouts.

He declined to say where authorities had been searching but confirmed that investigators had been in contact with some trash companies in El Paso County and in the Lorson Ranch area.

Kirby stressed that people with tips should report them to their tip line – 719-520-6666 – and not on social media because any tips sent to the sheriff’s office on social media will not be considered.

So, the legal definition of insanity is, knowing right from wrong, Maybe they know it's wrong and just don't care.
Taking all the steps she did attempting to cover it up.... she knew. She had to know. However, there are some people who are about as insane as it gets and still manage to go through the day doing normal things and hiding their true selves from others. And insane people can and do carry out criminal acts, it happens every day somewhere.
I hope this woman is plagued by nightmares and is never able to escape the images of what she did from her mind.

I don't think she thinks the way we do! She probably still believes Gannon deserved it some how.

Allen is currently talking with Al Stauch about Letecia Stauch’s claim that she was raped and Gannon was kidnapped from the house, a claim Letecia Stauch made just a few days after reporting Gannon missing. “My first impression was that it was a ******** story," Al Stauch said.

Why are insanity pleas heard by a jury in the first place? An insanity plea, in most cases, is an ADMISSION of guilt, but arguing that the person should not be held responsible for their actions because of their mental illness. The defense has basically admitted that she did this, but should not be held responsible. A jury cannot determine if someone is legally mentally fit. (Well, they do. But most jurors have no educational basis or training for determining that.) She was pronounced fit by several mental health professionals and examinations, if I'm remembering correctly. That should be the end of it. Lock her up.

ETA: Not to say that everyone shouldn't have a fair trial. But once you're determined mentally sound by psychological experts, drop that plea and have a real trial.

I should go look to see if Scott has it but was riveted. It is Court TV so of course they cut to a break during testimony.

Still Al's testimony grabs from the start so far anyhow.

Scott likely has it witih no commercial breaks. I will look.

Yeah, seems to be no "commercial" breaks on Crime Talk, just full airing of all day's trial. There was a glitch for a bit early into it but I gather that was for all channels and stemmed from the court. Hang through that and it goes into constant testimony by Al.

When he gets to cross, I think this will tell us how the defense is going to be, how nasty, what points they try to hit on, etc.

Al was seeing Letecia while still married to Landen. They have touched on that. And while Letecia imo is a horrible person who viciously murdered this boy, I think a few truths here from Letecia, etc. is that Al was cheating on her, she was the one taking care of his kids while he was gone, etc. and she was searching for places for herself or herself and daughter.

I don't buy the insanity bull and likely won't unless something major changes my mind but I do think she was stressed, was very unhappy, Al wasn't being the dad and husband she wanted, etc. He was leaving his kids with her and it was all on her or mostly with kids, etc. Again, I am NOT minimizing the monster she is.

What I am getting to is it wouldn't surprise me for the defense to go hard at Al over some of these things and more. I'm not that far in yet and have no idea how many hours he is on the stand. I'm just saying it will give us our first big glimpse of what defense is going to do and how hard they will go, etc. and where they will go...

It is very odd that she is over by the wall again but the former one an attorney I think was next to her but today there is a big gap and it is like she is way over from her attorneys with no one sitting near her or in between... Like she was told go sit over there and stay put and out of things. I wonder a couple of things. First is she maybe guarded and shackled near an officer standing near her we can't see maybe OR is this some strategy/gimmick to make it look like she has issues (insanity) so defense distances her...

I knew Al would be a key witness but just realizing how much so, more than I realized.

Not dull testimony if one knows the case, easy to pay attention to.

I imagine the jury is following with focus.

Letecia's daughter's testimony is going to be a big part of this and whether she shows any loyalty to mom or tells the blatant truth.

OOOhhhh boy this is interesting. Faked sexual harassment claims, faked pregnancy having twins, faked robbery (all likely faked) that Al is testifying to... And so much more... Her needing to rent a car and worried about her lease on hers and miles when they needed to search for Gannon...

One of MANY things. Letecia had a conflict at her job as she felt she was more educated than the principal.... Kind of sounds like her letters to the judge in this case expounding on her knowledge, her rights and so on...
