ONGOING CRIME BREAKING NEWS!

Starting in January 2020, this thread is about the news as it breaks!

Bernard Madoff says he is dying and is asking a judge for compassionate release from prison, where he is serving 150 years for orchestrating the largest Ponzi scheme in history, according to a Wednesday federal court filing.

Madoff, 81, has terminal kidney failure and a life expectancy of less than 18 months. When the court sentenced him, “it was clear that Madoff’s 150-year prison sentence was symbolic for three reasons: retribution, deterrence, and for the victims,” the court filing states. “This Court must now consider whether keeping Madoff incarcerated … is truly in furtherance of statutory sentencing goals and our society’s value and understanding of compassion.”

Madoff said in the request for compassionate release that he “does not dispute the severity of his crimes.”

IMO- stay in jail

Or maybe even thrown in the garbage.

Ten and eleven year olds still believe in Santa?
I do, so what's your point lol?

I just figure his sleigh has been in the shop for repair, the reindeer are all on strike, or some such has kept him from me in recent years...

I've seen people go as late as say ten or so... Parents that manage to have them keep the belief that long even though surely by then they are hearing from other kids he is not so...

It says in August of 2023, not 2024 so just now this is news or what...
I looked into it and apparently it's worse. They went missing in 2021 but only found out about it in 2023.

Often it is when they have younger siblings who still believe too. If you don't believe then you don't get any presents. I definitely saw him driving that bus.

Welll that's scary in itself, not knowing for that long...

Lol.

Yeah, I found out a hard way. Before Christmas one year, we had a kind of loft in the garage where my dad would store things. H sent me up there to find or get something he needed and I saw all these new toys in bags, boxes, etc. And I just KNEW then my parents were Santa. I went and hid under their bed just upset and sobbing. He felt horrible, hadn't even occurred to him. I was devastated.

I'd had a neighbor friend trying to tell me for a year or two but my parents told me she was wrong, etc.

I was old enough, might have been ten but maybe nine.

You know later in life now, and I did the entire Santa thing with my kids, but I'm not so sure these days I think it a good thing. I mean it was very magical and special without a doubt but things come with i that are hard to explain, like why some kids get more or less than you, etc. How he gets in when there is no fireplace to land in, how a fat Santa gets down a small chimney lol, on and on, and then you have to burst that bubble or someone does for the kid at some point....

And it's so commercial of course and some go way overboard with the gifts. I did and I'd say my parents actually did too, but not like some people either. I really regretted that or would say I did later on, it also gets harder to match or top each year lol.

But I mean it was fun while it lasted and magical, etc. but just kind of torn on it these days if I think it the best thing.
