ONGOING CRIME BREAKING NEWS!

Starting in January 2020, this thread is about the news as it breaks!

Bernard Madoff says he is dying and is asking a judge for compassionate release from prison, where he is serving 150 years for orchestrating the largest Ponzi scheme in history, according to a Wednesday federal court filing.

Madoff, 81, has terminal kidney failure and a life expectancy of less than 18 months. When the court sentenced him, “it was clear that Madoff’s 150-year prison sentence was symbolic for three reasons: retribution, deterrence, and for the victims,” the court filing states. “This Court must now consider whether keeping Madoff incarcerated … is truly in furtherance of statutory sentencing goals and our society’s value and understanding of compassion.”

Madoff said in the request for compassionate release that he “does not dispute the severity of his crimes.”

IMO- stay in jail

So you defend yourself. You're 65 yrs old. And this. YOU'RE FOCUSING ON THE WRONG PEOPLE! The guy is described as repeat offender, Robber. WTF?! This is bulls*t!!!!

The gun charges I understand, anything else, no.

This is one of the weirdest things. I've been following it for a few days.
Just read it, the link here.

Only thing I can think of is he was in trouble and perhaps facing arrest or she was maybe facing CPS involvement/removing him from the home? Since I find it unlikely they'd remove a 17 year old against his wishes, that would leave he was facing something, was in trouble for something, and so they said he went missing...? I guess a removal could also be necesssary if there were other children in the home and he was someone they told her could not be around them.

I\m not saying either is the case, just trying to come up with the reason you'd lie about such a thing, BOTH of them, or not come forward and say he is no longer missing at minimum.

OR was there someone they didn't want knowing he was alive, well and with the mother? LE? An ex-girlfriend? Did he get someone pregnant? Was he hiding from a gang he couldn't get out of or enemies?

ALL speculation on my part, not trying to cast shade as I don't know but you don't do this and lie about it without a reason do you?

He was living in plain sight. So the pregnancy and hiding from a gang. No. People said they saw him all the time. IDK the reason. But I have a feeling it primarily had something to do with a reason from the mother. And he was a willing participant. IMO.

The El Paso Walmart gunman was formally sentenced to 90 life sentences for the racist 2019 massacre that killed 23 people and injured nearly two dozen others, according to El Paso ABC affiliate KVIA.

Judge David Guaderrama handed down the sentence on Friday after hearing two days of emotional impact statements from victims and the family members of victims.

The gunman, 24-year-old Patrick Crusius, pleaded guilty in February to dozens of federal hate crimes and firearms charges.

Crusius had initially pleaded not guilty to the federal charges, but requested a rearraignment hearing after federal prosecutors agreed to not seek the death penalty in their case.

These were the federal hate crime charges Mel. The state trial is yet to come, and the state prosecutor has said that he will pursue the death penalty.

<snip>

Crusius still faces a separate trial in a Texas court that could end with him getting the death penalty for carrying out one of the deadliest mass shootings in U.S. history.

<snip>

Crusius pleaded guilty in February after federal prosecutors took the death penalty off the table. But Texas prosecutors have said they will try to put Crusius on death row when he stands trial in state court. That trial date has not yet been set.
