ONGOING CRIME BREAKING NEWS!

Starting in January 2020, this thread is about the news as it breaks!

Bernard Madoff says he is dying and is asking a judge for compassionate release from prison, where he is serving 150 years for orchestrating the largest Ponzi scheme in history, according to a Wednesday federal court filing.

Madoff, 81, has terminal kidney failure and a life expectancy of less than 18 months. When the court sentenced him, “it was clear that Madoff’s 150-year prison sentence was symbolic for three reasons: retribution, deterrence, and for the victims,” the court filing states. “This Court must now consider whether keeping Madoff incarcerated … is truly in furtherance of statutory sentencing goals and our society’s value and understanding of compassion.”

Madoff said in the request for compassionate release that he “does not dispute the severity of his crimes.”

IMO- stay in jail

PERFECT!!!
First of all just how is it we never heard of this case when or after it happened??

Second, how did he escape? Not a detail of it. This was an arrested murderer who then kidnapped a couple and led police on an out of state spree and hunt. Stole two cars if I have it right.

What do guards and jails do? Say oh it's just another murderer, no biggie, and give him some kind of lax conditions that he could escape??? HOW did he escape and for that matter HOW is it he had on a jean jacket when last seen...?

Finally, they say area residents should lock their cars. Nothing about locking their homes or keepimh themselves safe just their cars. Apparently they think him no threat to people just that he would steal cars if desperate. They can't KNOW that. He killed his girlfriend and didn't harm I gather the couple he kidnapped and whose car he stole but are they using that to already judge and think he wouldn't kill again if he had to if facing prison? He ESCAPED. And again, HOW? Probably from this same kind of ambivalency. Idiots. Idiots run our country and states and systems.

Did he have a weapon? How? Did he just walk out the door and wave goodbye? Wearing some guard's jean jacket they left on a chair while he just walked around free? Huh? Seriouisly I want to know. Why the lack of HOW? Did he call a taxi or Door Dash and just say I need to go? Did he then just amble down the street or hitchhike? I mean there are serious details missing here. And oh area people just lock your cars...

He was released when his sentence expired in 2020. Uh. 24 yrs from 2000 is 2024. Soooo. He shouldn't have been out. WTH are they talking about?!!!
I don't have it in me to read it right now, have so much to do and so little time off and read some catching up this morning but I recognize the victim's name but don't recall much about the case or him. Just looking at the headlines, they wanted the death penalty and he was convicted but now he is OUT??? Is that what the deal is? Can you fill me in some?

This release ******** of the worst has to stop. It is simple logic that more crimes will be committed with more and more on the streets and all is just going to implode. I am sure the ones responsible care less as they figure they won't come for them, because they were so nice to them and let them out! They will just stay in their crowds and their secured mansions and jet set elsewhere while these criminals kill and rape others.

But ONE day if there is any justice and life after death or whatever one believes, the people resposnible for these releases will be in he77 with all these perpetrators. and then will be part of their crowd. And deservedly so. Anyone in power who could stop this routine release of murderers and worse even and didn't, anyone who did release them, all of them I'd hope answer to what they did and are doing to this world and society.

Just saw something at the start of an A&E thing (not watching, no time, just saw the cover of it) that there are 120,000 unsolved murders in the US. At first, I didn't think that sounded like so many until a moment after. That's an average of 2400 per state. And that's a lot and some states would be more and some less. And then add in probably at least that many unknown or that were erroneously called suicides, accidental and more. Just guessing but somehow I doubt the majority of the number comes from 1900 to 1950 or even later. The population was not the same and people weren't as mobile nor would there be as many reports of anyone even dead much less investigated imo.

It's a LOT and I'd guess with the mislabeled ones and ones unknown the number could probably double. Just think about that for a few moments. I'm appalled and a bit outraged.

Finish your donuts and get to work pronto.

That's only meant to the slackards not to all.

This guy isn't as smart as "Bundy". Bit reminds me of. Escaped TWICE! The 2nd time is when he made it to Florida to continue killing there. Oooppppssss. F'ed up in Florida!!! ZZZZZZZTTTTTT!!!!!! And the note "Not sorry". He really wanted that known. And that is a very dangerous person. They are like a serial killer that feels no remorse for killing. So death is the justice. "Bundy" Never expressed any remorse. IMO He really deserved to be electrocuted. He has way more victims than were found. They better find this guy fast! He will hurt anyone!!!

They just give up on alot. Sometimes close. A case should NEVER be closed until solved. I.D. of the victim AND Perpetrator

I don't remember it. Wow. See. Good memory. But I am usually into really old cases. Weird I don't remember this at all though.
I don't remember it but it is of pretty big interest right now and perhaps needs a thread. Ickedmel and a few others have done vidoes. Quanell did a press conference. My opinion on him is torn just due to seeing him in some other cases and never quite sure about a few things in them at times. However, he is very persuasive and claims to have proof that the cops are lying and more. It is worth watching. I think Grizzly may have done a video, a few have, I haven't had time to watch all but I did watch Ickedmel Quanell's PC on his YT show of this case.

It probably should have a thread, kind of big news getting some attention at least at the moment.

AGREED. Nowadays they seem to make a point of saying they aren't closed but ya know it just means they are on a shelf until somethiing breaks, not that they are necessarily working on it, just not "closed" because they get so much "****" if say cold or closed.

TAMPA, Fla. - After several failed appeal attempts, notorious killer Dorice Donegan "Dee Dee" Moore will once again demand a new trial in a Hillsborough County courthouse.

She's saying she didn't kill Lakeland lottery winner Abraham Shakespeare back in 2009, but the witness who could back that claim up recently died, so now her defense team will have to take a new approach.

<snip>

Moore is expected to be present in the evidentiary hearing that will get underway at 11 a.m.

A Florida appeals court upheld her conviction in 2015 and again in 2019.
