ONGOING CRIME BREAKING NEWS!

Starting in January 2020, this thread is about the news as it breaks!

Bernard Madoff says he is dying and is asking a judge for compassionate release from prison, where he is serving 150 years for orchestrating the largest Ponzi scheme in history, according to a Wednesday federal court filing.

Madoff, 81, has terminal kidney failure and a life expectancy of less than 18 months. When the court sentenced him, “it was clear that Madoff’s 150-year prison sentence was symbolic for three reasons: retribution, deterrence, and for the victims,” the court filing states. “This Court must now consider whether keeping Madoff incarcerated … is truly in furtherance of statutory sentencing goals and our society’s value and understanding of compassion.”

Madoff said in the request for compassionate release that he “does not dispute the severity of his crimes.”

IMO- stay in jail

Missing Houston Boy, 7, Found Dead Inside Family's Washing Machine

A 7-year-old boy reported missing in the Houston area was found deceased inside the family's washing machine on Thursday morning.

KPRC-TV in Houston reported constables responded to a call about a missing boy in Spring at about 5:20 a.m. and that after arriving at the family's home learned from his parents that they noticed he was missing at about 4 a.m.

Authorities searched the home and about two hours later discovered the child's body inside a top-loader washer in the garage.

“Whether he was killed by the washing machine or killed and placed in it, we’re just so far from that, I can’t comment,” Lt. Robert Minchew, with the Harris County Sheriff’s office homicide unit, told KHOU.

Minchew told KPRC that the boy’s parents were questioned, which is standard procedure. Minchew told the station that Troy was a foster child in the home previously and was adopted in 2019. No other children live in the home.
Update on this case I think many of us expected...

A 42-year-old adoptive father in Texas was arrested for allegedly killing his 7-year-old son months after the child’s bloodied and bruised body was found stuffed inside of a washing machine in the home.

Jemaine Thomas was taken into custody on Tuesday and charged with one count of capital murder of a victim under 10 years old in the July death of young Troy Koehler, court records reviewed by Law&Crime show. The boy’s adoptive mother, 35-year-old Tiffany Thomas, was also arrested and charged with one count of injury to a child by omission.

“Corporal Gonzales stated he observed blood around [the boy’s] nose and a large bump on his forehead, over the right eye,” the affidavit states. “Corporal Gonzales stated he observed [the boy’s] clothing to be damp and he noted the odor of urine emanating from the body. Finally, Corporal Gonzales stated [the boy’s] pants were pulled down to his knees, exposing his underwear and the presence of bruises to his upper legs.”

Investigators say blood was visible at the base of the wash tub, indicating that the machine had not been turned on while the boy was inside. That notion was reinforced by the smell of urine that allegedly emanated from the boy’s body. Blood spatter was also allegedly found on a door frame and a cardboard box lid, both of which were in the kitchen.

A forensic examiner was dispatched to the scene to examine Troy’s body.

“The gross examination of the Complainant’s body revealed multiple bruises and patterned scars all over the body, along with facial injuries,” the affidavit states. “Blood was visible around the Complainant’s mouth and nares.”

An autopsy determined that Troy’s manner of death was a homicide caused by “homicidal violence.” The medical examiner told investigators that the child suffered from “asphyxiation and possible drowning.” Troy had also reportedly sustained new and old blunt force trauma injuries that were indicative of sustained physical abuse.

There was a case like this in Kentucky not that long ago.

Horrid details. This boy suffered and lived a fear filled life filled with abuse I'm sure. A very hard one to think about or dwell on.

CAPITAL murder. As it should be!

I did end up starting a thread for the University of Idaho murders since there still hasn't been any arrests.

LOUDOUN COUNTY, Va. — The boyfriend of a missing pregnant 21-year-old woman has pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in a case that has mystified Loudoun County investigators since 2011.

The disappearance of Bethany Decker haunted police for nine years. Decker, who was a 21-year-old student at George Mason University at the time, was reportedly five months pregnant when she disappeared on Jan. 29, 2011. Despite extensive searches and a major investigation, she has never been found.

Officials have identified a body that was found in unincorporated Miami-Dade last week as a Broward woman who was allegedly murdered by her husband.

Mimose Dulcio, 39, had been last seen the evening of Nov. 10 at her home in unincorporated central Broward, and a missing person alert was issued for her two days later.

Detectives found a body Nov. 16 in a wooded area near Northwest 204th Street and 55th Court. Though officials hadn't released her identity at the time, family members said it was Dulcio's body.

But on Tuesday, authorities confirmed the body was Dulcio.

Days after she went missing, police arrested her estranged husband, 36-year-old Jose Luis Pacheco, in Miami-Dade on a second-degree murder charge in the killing.

Unbelievable.

Judge rules Austin Harrouff not guilty by reason of insanity in murder of Tequesta couple

A judge Monday ruled that accused killer Austin Harrouff is not guilty by reason of insanity in the 2016 murders of a Tequesta couple at their home on Southeast Kokomo Lane in southern Martin County.

Harrouff, 25, fatally stabbed John Stevens III, 59, and Michelle Mishcon, 53, in a vicious and random attack that included injuring their neighbor Jeffrey Fisher, who tried to help the couple.

The Florida State University student, then 19, was found biting and chewing on Stevens' face in the man's driveway, and detectives recovered what appeared to be flesh from Harrouff's teeth. Deputies reported Harrouff was walking to his father's home in the neighborhood when he targeted Stevens III and Mishcon.

Investigators have noted an extreme amount of force, including Taser use, a police dog and multiple law enforcement officials, was necessary to subdue Harrouff.

Two psychologists — one hired by the state and one for the defense — have concluded that during the murders Harrouff was suffering an “acute psychotic episode.”

Harrouff, the experts found, was “unable to distinguish right from wrong,” meaning he meets Florida’s criteria to be acquitted by reason of insanity.

WTF?! "Found biting and chewing on the man's face". GOOD GOD!

He was a university student. Was this his one and only psychotic break or did he assault and chew on people in school too? Sorry but I mean seriously, did they have to worry about him in school if he suffered such breaks?

I'm not saying he didn't have one, Lord knows what he did was gruesome and awful to these victims but I DO want to know if this was his one and only.
