ONGOING CRIME BREAKING NEWS!

Starting in January 2020, this thread is about the news as it breaks!

Bernard Madoff says he is dying and is asking a judge for compassionate release from prison, where he is serving 150 years for orchestrating the largest Ponzi scheme in history, according to a Wednesday federal court filing.

Madoff, 81, has terminal kidney failure and a life expectancy of less than 18 months. When the court sentenced him, “it was clear that Madoff’s 150-year prison sentence was symbolic for three reasons: retribution, deterrence, and for the victims,” the court filing states. “This Court must now consider whether keeping Madoff incarcerated … is truly in furtherance of statutory sentencing goals and our society’s value and understanding of compassion.”

Madoff said in the request for compassionate release that he “does not dispute the severity of his crimes.”

Alec Baldwin and armorer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed will face criminal charges for the October 21, 2021 fatal shooting of Rust cinematographer Halyna Hutchins, the Santa Fe District Attorney said this morning.

Close to 16 months after Baldwin took the life of Hutchins and wounded the movie’s director Joel Souza with a loaded gun on the set of indie western Rust, New Mexico First Judicial District Attorney Mary Carmack-Altwies today has finally unveiled her decision as to who should be charged and not charged in the tragic incident.

“After a thorough review of the evidence and the laws of the state of New Mexico, I have determined that there is sufficient evidence to file criminal charges against Alec Baldwin and other members of the ‘Rust’ film crew,” Carmack-Altwies said Thursday. “On my watch, no one is above the law, and everyone deserves justice.”

In charges set to be formally filed by the end of the month, Baldwin and Gutierrez-Reed will each be charged with two counts of involuntary manslaughter in Hutchins’ death.

“If any one of these three people—Alec Baldwin, Hannah Gutierrez-Reed or David Halls—had done their job, Halyna Hutchins would be alive today. It’s that simple,” stated Andrea Reeb, the special prosecutor assigned to the case. “The evidence clearly shows a pattern of criminal disregard for safety on the ‘Rust’ film set. In New Mexico, there is no room for film sets that don’t take our state’s commitment to gun safety and public safety seriously,” Reeb added.

ALEC BALDWIN WAS charged Thursday with involuntary manslaughter in connection to the fatal shooting of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on the set of the film Rust last year.

Following a lengthy investigation, the New Mexico First Judicial District Attorney’s Office announced charges stemming from the Oct. 2021 shooting on Thursday. In addition to Baldwin, the film’s armorer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed will also face involuntary manslaughter charges, while first assistant director David Halls was hit with a negligent use of a deadly weapon charge; Halls has already agreed to plea guilty to that count.

Los Angeles hit-and-run driver who plowed into mom and baby in stolen car is murdered after light sentence

The 17-year-old wrong-way driving felon who ran over a mom and her infant was shot to death

A Los Angeles 17-year-old who ran over a mother walking her baby in a stroller in 2021 and received just a few months of diversionary camp as punishment was gunned down in Palmdale, California, this week.

Kristopher Baca, whom Fox News Digital has previously not identified due to his youth, pleaded guilty to the hit-and-run last year.

Impact.jpg

Deputies found him dead with gunshot wounds in a Palmdale driveway.
Sources close to the investigation said he had been at a fast food restaurant earlier trying to "get with a girl."
As he walked home alone, a car pulled up next to him and an argument broke out. Someone in the vehicle opened fire, then sped off.

The young mother, who has asked only to be identified as Rachel, eventually moved her family out of Los Angeles to get away from what she has described as soft-on-crime policies.

She told Fox News Digital on Friday that her husband was out of town when she heard the news, and she had to mull it over alone. She said she was both relieved and saddened by the news. "The universe delivered the justice we weren’t given in court, but a much harsher punishment than he’d have been dealt in a court of law," she said.

The case made national headlines last year when Los Angeles District Attorney George Gascon's office sought a five- to seven-month sentence in juvenile probation camp, a punishment for young offenders described as less severe than military school but harsher than summer camp.

Gascon’s office told Fox News Digital at the time that the sentence was "an appropriate resolution." Spokespersons did not immediately respond to a request for comment Friday.

The teen was already on felony probation for poisoning a high school girl's drink at the time of the hit-and-run, which surveillance cameras captured on Aug. 6, 2021.
The video shows a stolen vehicle speeding the wrong way down a one-way backstreet. It plowed into a woman walking her infant son in a stroller. Then he hit the gas, accelerating away from the scene, where a good Samaritan in a pickup truck rammed the suspect vehicle head-on.

Los Angeles police responded and found drugs in the driver’s system and marijuana in the car, according to an incident report

The suspect was 15 at the time of the hit-and-run and asked the court for an early release from his light punishment. A judge denied the request, but the youth died before his 18th birthday.

"I think I feel shorted — by the system because they didn’t hold him accountable and sad, not for him, but for his mom a little, because if George Gascon actually did his job, this kid would still be alive in jail," Rachel said.

HAYWOOD COUNTY, Tenn. — A warrant for first-degree murder has been issued for Kevin Watson, husband of Britney Watson who was last seen between 12 p.m. and 1 p.m. on January 7, 2023.

The Haywood County Sheriff’s Office began searching for Britney Watson on January 15, 2023, saying that she went missing from 3317 Hillville Loop.

<snip>
Though Sheriff Garrett took to Facebook to announce the first-degree murder warrant against Kevin Watson on Wednesday the 18th, no mention was made of finding Britney.

“An arrest warrant will be issued today for First Degree Murder on Kevin. This is done to cover all possibilities and to meet requirements for me to get additional resources to help search,” Sheriff Garrett wrote.

The search was postponed on that Wednesday due to weather warnings and Sheriff Garrett said that if the couple has not been found by Friday then authorities will attempt to organize a large party of volunteers to help find the missing couple.

HAYWOOD CO., Tenn. (WMC) - Just hours after Kevin Watson was arrested for the murder of his ex-wife Britney Watson, missing out of Haywood County, a body was found, according to Haywood County Sheriff Billy Garrett Jr.

This comes after days of extensive searches for both parties in the rural areas of the county.

According to Sheriff Garrett, the Haywood County Sheriff’s Office received a call from one of Kevin’s friends around 5 p.m. Friday, who stated Kevin wanted to turn himself in to police.

Deputies were sent to the caller’s address in Tipton County where Kevin was arrested on a first-degree murder warrant.

Around 8:30 p.m., Sheriff Garrett confirmed a body was found buried near Kevin’s Hillville Loop address.

The body has yet to be identified and will be sent to the coroner’s office for an autopsy, Garrett says.

All search efforts will be suspended until the process is complete.

New ‘Amber’ documentary explores cold trail of Arlington girl’s abduction 27 years ago

After 27 years, Amber Hagerman’s abduction and murder remains unsolved.

The suspected abductor snatched the 9-year-old Arlington girl while she was riding her bicycle in a parking lot of a laundromat near her home. The Star-Telegram reported two years ago, 25 years after the abduction, how the girl with long brown hair and freckles was filled with a boundless love of life — of going to school at Arlington’s Berry Elementary, playing with her collection of Barbie dolls, riding her pink bicycle with her younger brother, Ricky Hagerman.

A new 92-minute documentary, “Amber: The Girl Behind the Alert,” now streaming on Peacock tells the story of Amber. Interviews with Williams and other family members paint a picture of a life that was taken so abruptly. Footage from the days leading up to Amber’s abduction is part of the documentary, Peacock says.

Being a teenager he did some terrible things. I think he would have gotten worse. No accountability.

Florida woman arrested after fatally shooting terminally ill husband inside hospital

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — A 76-year-old woman was arrested after fatally shooting her 77-year-old terminally ill husband inside his hospital room Saturday morning,

Ellen Gilland was arrested after she reportedly barricaded herself inside her husband's hospital room for four hours following the shooting.

The shooting, which happened at Advent Health Hospital located at Medical Memorial Parkway, happened around 11:30 a.m., but Gilland didn't leave the room until about 3:30 p.m. after negotiating with law enforcement

The couple planned a murder-suicide three weeks ago because of her husband's illness, but Gilland couldn't go through with it, WKMG reports. “The goal was for him to do it, but he did not have the strength, so she had to carry it out for him,” Daytona Beach Police Chief Jakari Young said.

The New York Times said police had to use a flash-bang device, which typically produces a bright flash and a loud noise, to distract Gilland. Officers also used a bean bag gun to help take her into custody, Chief Young said.
Gilland faces charges of first-degree premeditated murder and three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

I saw that. I was just stunned. In a hospital. A 76 yr old woman. I really don't know what to say. And that rarely happens. Except how sad it is.

I've swayed back and forth on this. I really liked Alec Baldwin on SNL. He was always very funny. You hate to think someone is guilty like that. But I believe O.J. is guilty. Cosby. Spector. There are more. Facts are facts. Obviously there is enough evidence to charge him. I guess I haven't seen all of the news about this. I remember them talking about charging him a long time ago, Then nothing. I feel sorry for his wife. She will have alot of children to take care of.

HAYWOOD CO., Tenn. (WMC) - The body found in Haywood County was identified as Britney Watson, according to Haywood County Sheriff Billy Garrett Jr.

Watson went missing in early January out of Haywood County. A warrant was later issued for the arrest of her ex-husband Kevin Watson for first-degree murder.

The manhunt for Kevin Watson ended on Friday when he turned himself into a game warden in Tipton County after nearly two weeks on the lam.

A body was found on Kevin Watson’s property just hours after his arrest. Monday, investigators were able to confirm it was Britney Watson by checking fingerprint data.
