When does Rex Heuermann’s trial begin in the Gilgo Beach serial killer case?

The court has not yet set an official trial date because lawyers on both sides are still arguing over key details. The complexity of the case, due in part to its multiple victims and DNA evidence, has had a major impact on nailing down the timeline.
In March, Suffolk County District Attorney Ray Tierney said that the case against Heuermann — an architect, husband, and father of two who lived in Massapequa Park on Long Island, New York — was “heading toward the trial phase,” 6abc.com reported.

What is Rex Heuermann charged with?

Heuermann is charged with the murders of Melissa Barthelemy, Megan Waterman, Amber Costello, Maureen Brainard-Barnes, Jessica Taylor, Sandra Costilla, and Valerie Mack.

The prosecution’s case involves evidence including cellphone records, surveillance footage, and DNA analysis. Significantly, DNA from hair found at a crime scene was matched to Heuermann through whole genome sequencing. Tierney has maintained the DNA science is sound, according to the Associated Press. But the defense has contested the admissibility of this kind of DNA evidence, arguing that the technique lacks general acceptance in the scientific community.

What else is holding up the Gilgo Beach serial killer trial?

Heuermann’s defense team has also requested separate trials for each murder, pointing to differences in the timing, killing methods, and other circumstances of the crimes.
They contend that the murders have varying timelines and circumstances and that consolidating them could prejudice the jury.
Michael Brown, Heuermann’s attorney, has said that his client risks being improperly convicted because of the “cumulative effect” of the evidence, according to the AP.
Tierney’s office opposes separate trials. Prosecutors argue that the cases share common elements, including victim profiles and methods of operation found on Heuermann’s computer that suggest a serial killing pattern they have described as a “blueprint.”
Setting a trial date for Heuermann hinges on resolving key disputes between prosecution and defense, including DNA evidence admissibility and whether the case should be split into separate trials.

all-new documentary on Peacock.
The Gilgo Beach Killer: House of Secrets, premiering June 10, will bring viewers inside Heuermann’s Long Island home and include commentary from his wife, children, and friends as they try to make sense of the shocking allegations against the Manhattan architect, accused of killing seven women.

“After the arrest of the alleged Gilgo Beach killer, this documentary goes inside the suspect's home for the first time, where exclusive commentary from his own family unravels a chilling portrait of a man accused of living a double life and hiding dark secrets under their own roof,” reads a press release for the three-part documentary.
An all-new trailer released Friday for the special shows Heuermann’s estranged wife Asa Ellerup sitting down in the family’s home as a producer asks the question, “How could you not know?”

Although Ellerup’s answer isn’t revealed, she later opens up about the moment she learned of the stunning allegations against her husband.
“The investigator says to me, ‘Have you heard about the murders on Gilgo Beach?’ I’ve heard of them,” Ellerup remarked, before adding, “Does everybody really believe everything they hear?”

It’s clear in the more than a minute long trailer that some of those close to Heuermann now have conflicting feelings about the man they thought they once knew.
“One person’s saying this, one person’s saying that, but my memory says this,” his daughter, Victoria, said in another clip.
She isn’t the only one who appears to be questioning Heuermann, as another man who described himself as Heuermann’s “best friend” described the moment he confronted the alleged killer.
“There’s so much evidence against you, I don’t even believe you and you’re my best friend,” he said as he recounted the conversation. “Convince me, give me something. Did you do it?”
The final moments of the trailer also revealed a seemingly typical conversation between the husband and wife as Heuermann called Ellerup from behind bars.
“Hello,” Heuermann can be heard saying in the call.
“How you doing?” Ellerup asks.
“Alright, how are you today?” Heuermann calmly replies.
“I’m doing great, now that I’ve got you on the phone,” Ellerup tells him as the camera pans to a photo of the couple as young newlyweds.

About the suspected victims of the Gilgo Beach Killer

In addition to exclusive multi-part interviews with Ellerup, Victoria and Heuermann’s close friend, the Peacock documentary will also delve into the lives of Heuermann’s alleged victims before they met their tragic fate and follow the investigation that led to his eventual arrest.
The unassuming architect was taken into custody in July 2023 and was initially charged with second-degree murder for the deaths of three women: Melissa Barthelemy, Megan Waterman, and Amber Costello.

The remains of all three women were found along the same stretch of Gilgo Beach in December 2010 in a harrowing case that sparked national attention and inspired the 2020 Netflix film Lost Girls.
After his arrest, authorities later linked Heuermann to the deaths of four other women in separate cases that date all the way back to 1993.

While Heuermann remains behind bars awaiting trial for the killings, The Gilgo Beach Killer: House of Secrets will take a new look at the case and reveal new details about the man behind the disturbing allegations.
The three-part documentary is produced by Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson's G-Unit Film and Television,
The special will premiere Tuesday, June 10 on Peacock, with all three episodes available to stream upon its release.

you aren't missing anything. the trailer had Asa saying what she says in the article, Victoria the same, the best friend the same. He had friends?? Lol. It says something about CB saying he is innocent through his lawyer. Says Asa one of the most mysterious people in this. Whatever. She says again do people just believe everything they hear but you hear her say it in the trailer. Said she did know about the murders.

I won't be watching the actual thing. I have no idea if they were paid or not but right now, I don't know so will not watch and I'm a bit anti Peacock anyhow. I did watch the trailer for you though. You didn't miss a thing that's not in what your post has in it already that was said.

Allegedly she got paid a million, i think. She said she did know about the murders? So why is she not being charged as an accomplice?

Thanks for watching the trailer for me. Maybe someone else on here has Peacock and can watch and report for us.

i don't have peacock but my boyfriend was talking about getting it.... if he does i'll watch and do my best to fill you in or maybe post stuff if i can video from my cell phone or something

I think @Cousin Dupree has it. I used to and for some reason I could just go to it and it was always free, I didn't have to even log in as I recall it. I haven't tried in a long time, may it still would no idea. But again not a big fan lately.

Netflix is enough for me. And I can access my daughter's amazon prime although haven't done that in a long time. sometimes I pay for netflix all year and never went to it once or watched a single show. no point in me signing up for more.

Once it's out and watched, I am sure some YTers will likely cover what was likely in it is another option.

Accused Gilgo Beach killer’s daughter says dad ‘most likely did it’

NEW YORK (AP) — The daughter of accused Gilgo Beach serial killer Rex Heuermann believes he “most likely” committed the infamous killings in New York, even as her mother steadfastly defends her ex-husband’s innocence in a new documentary released Tuesday.
Victoria Heuermann sits in a home

The admission from Victoria Heuermann isn’t made on camera but through a statement from producers near the end of “The Gilgo Beach Killer: House of Secrets,” a three-part documentary on NBC’s streaming service Peacock.
“A week before the series release, Victoria Heuermann told the producers that based on publicly available facts that have been presented and explained to her, she now believes her father is most likely the Gilgo Beach killer,” reads a statement at the close of the final episode of the documentary.
Bob Macedonio, an attorney for Heuermann’s now ex-wife, Asa Ellerup, said in a statement after the documentary’s release that “time will only tell” whether his client will ever accept that her husband may have been a serial killer.
Heuermann’s lawyer didn’t respond to an email seeking comment.
The Manhattan architect has been charged with killing seven women, most of them sex workers, and dumping their bodies on a desolate parkway not far from Gilgo Beach on Long Island, some 50 miles (80 kilometers) from Manhattan.
He has pleaded not guilty and is due back in Riverhead court June 17 as a judge continues to weigh whether to allow key DNA evidence into the trial.
MORE | A timeline of the investigation into the Gilgo Beach killings
In the documentary, Victoria Heuermann struggles to reconcile her childhood memories with the portrait of the killer described by authorities.
She says her father was around the family “90% of the time” and was never violent toward any of them.
At the same time, Victoria Heuermann acknowledged there were times when he stayed home while the family went on vacation and that she was around 10 to 13 years old when the killings happened. Prosecutors say Heuerman committed some of the killings in the basement while his family was out of town.
“Whether or not I believe my dad did it or not, I’m on the fence about that,” said the now 28-year-old. “Part of me thinks he didn’t do it, but at the same time, I don’t know, he could have just totally had a double life.”
Ellerup, for her part, maintained she saw no “abnormal behavior” in their nearly three decades of marriage.
She dismissed a computer file prosecutors claim is a “blueprint” of his crimes as “absurd.”

Prosecutors say the document features a series of checklists for before, during and after a killing, such as a “body prep” checklist that includes among other items a note to “remove head and hands.”
Ellerup also shrugged off other evidence prosecutors have enumerated in court documents, including a vast collection of bondage and torture pornography found on electronic devices seized from their home, and hairs linked to Heuermann that were recovered on most of the victims’ bodies.
At the same time, she revealed that in July 2009, around the time one of his alleged victims went missing, Heuermann suddenly renovated a bathroom while she and their two children visited her family in Iceland. But she noted her former husband eventually joined the family for their final week of the trip.
“My husband, he’s a family man. He’s my hero,” Ellerup said. “What I want to say to him is, ‘I love you, no matter what.’”
Ellerup divorced Heuermann after his arrest in 2023. But in the documentary, Victoria Heuermann says the separation was for financial reasons to protect the family’s assets.
Indeed, the filmmakers captured the family speaking to Heuermann by phone from jail, and the mother and daughter have been regularly attending court hearings with their attorney.
The family, which also includes Ellerup’s adult son from a prior marriage, is also planning to put up its notoriously ramshackle house in well-to-do Massapequa Park for sale as they look to move to a property they own in South Carolina.
Ryan McCormick, an NBCUniversal spokesperson, declined to say how much family was compensated, though he said the payments could not go toward Heuermann or his defense funds.
The documentary was produced by rapper 50 Cent’s G-Unit Film and Television production company alongside Texas Crew Productions and New York Post Entertainment.

I just started watching the first episode on Peacock. One thing really disturbing to me was on the front page of the first episode. Anyone who's seen the first season of "True Detective" should understand this. Asa looks like the woman who was living with the evil killer in that show.

:panic:

You are watching this at 4 a.m. alone in your home? You must want nightmares.

Everyone remembers the Exorcist when it came out right? Well hub and one of his roughy tuffy rugby players wanted to go see it but me and his wife, no way did we want to go. So the two of them went to see it and his wife came round our house and we had a girls' night in. Well when they came back from watching it they were as spooked as heck. We laughed our heads off at them.

So i bought the book. No way did i want to see the film. I started reading it and it scared the bejesus out of me. I just couldn't read it when he was on nights and i was at home alone with the kids in bed. I had to read it in the daytime when he was around.

To this day it is the scariest thing i have ever read.

I think I heard the book was worse and yes, not to read it alone. Can't recall who said that, maybe Mel. Maybe a family member. Dark theater, dark car on the way home, lol, yveah the men probably had some night.

You know I think I read all your one post above and in it I think it was I saw their wedding picture. She was somewhat attractive back then, the same now. She'd probably say cancer but maybe the toll of life with him in that house, hard to say.

So the daughter and her differ a bit now and daughter is kind of open to he may have had a double life. Asa says she will never believe he did it unless HE tells her that. Was it her that said though they came home one time and he had ripped out a bathroom? I'm guessing blood would be the reason.

I don't know how much I believe her, she goes on about how she cares yet she is going to move to South Carolina? And why would you even tell people if you don't want them bothering you again?
Guessing most of what the said was said in the documentary so I'd say we know a fair amount now, probably not all.

They wouldn't tell how much they paid them, right there is an answer to that, they were paid. SO sick of her profiting off that.

Not sure I can picture her in rural SC. Pretty sure it is rural. Muggy, hot. Does she even drive? Daughter might. What will daughter do there, sit around all day? Guess it doesn't matter.
