Madera 2-year-old missing, Police Chief: 'We're not ruling anything out'

The Madera Police Department held a news conference Wednesday afternoon where Police Chief Dino Lawson said he has reached out to the FBI who is assisting with the investigation into the disappearance of 2-year-old Thaddeus Sran.

When asked why there has been no Amber Alert issued, Chief Lawson said, "We're not there yet."

The chief also said the Madera County Sheriff's Department is also assisting with the investigation.

"Everything is on the table. We're looking at everything. We're not ruling anything out," said Chief Lawson.

Police say the 2-year-old child went missing overnight from his home on “C” Street sometime between 10:00 p.m. Tuesday and 8:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Thaddeus was born premature and has a feeding tube and is non-verbal.

Thaddeus did recently learn to walk and it's unknown if he was able to walk away or if he was taken.

Police say Thaddeus needs special care and needs to be reunited with his family as soon as possible.

He was last seen wearing a red shirt and Spiderman pants with a diaper underneath. He is approximately two feet tall and weighs 30 pounds.

Police are looking into the possibility that Thaddeus was abducted.

Madera County Sheriff’s Office, US Marshall’s, Federal Bureau of Investigations, and Madera County Probation are assisting with a search and investigation.

Missed the first part of the presser so I'm not sure exactly what I missed. It sounds like he may have the parents in custody. Investigator says "we will have justice" for Thaddeus.

I see in this article the "family lawyer" saying the former child, the little girl was also premature and died from SIDS. Now that it is probably okay to go there and say a bit more since the parents are under arrest, I have a REAL opinion of SIDS and the research on it and most doctors' beliefs have really changed. At minimum I will say this, just like hot car deaths that seem to be increasing interestingly and sadly, even if there are real cases of SIDS and there probably are perhaps some, I am not going to argue that subject, such things do have these kind of evil parents that USE such stories or causes...

I think I have shared enough for most to know we had someone claim SIDS when it was way beyond that and a skull fracture and more. He thought he would be believed because she had had a scare when far younger but that too was not SIDS... Dumb one too convinced he would be believed just like that...

Not sure in this case, but the likelihood of an accident with the first when now they are under arrest for a second, I don't think so.... How dumb are parents that would even attempt a second when still under scrutiny for the first? SMDH.

I think a lot of cases went down at SIDS back when that were not. I do believe on rare occasion it could happen but truly what is it? If I remember right, it was coined when another reason could not be found and that is even if they looked for one. Sudden Infant Death Syndrome. I never knew anyone closely but there were one or two in our community decades ago that privately I wondered about... If one notices, you do not hear a whole lot about it anymore and there is a reason for that... I cannot stress enough that it in no way applied in our case but he "tried" it.. from the very first moment... Because of that, we heard a lot from detectives, the prosecutor etc. and the REAL doctors of how SIDS is looked at nowadays... LONG before he was ever arrested or there was a trial.

I was actually surprised to find it is hardly even thought to be a "thing" any longer.

But yes, such things can be a convenient excuse or attempt to cover a murder.

The hot car deaths are bothering me these days. Ton of them already this year it seems like. So maybe one or two parents were believed they forgot their children were in the car and I can believe on a rare, very rare occasion that could happen but too many people and too much?

In this case here, and I am not even going to ask because I am sure you likely think the same, I think we all do most likely, one dead child from SIDS at four months old, and now a dead child who what was abducted or got out of the house himself and took off...

These people are idiots. I guess thank goodness in some ways... I am going to guess, jmo, that they were still being not believed or looked at over the first one's death, so they decided to try a new plan for this one.... Of if they can't find him, they might suspect, but no body, no crime and how can they say or know it was NOT an abduction? They can't prove it...

And I can't believe it is not just one idiot parent but TWO and TWO deaths the way it looks...

And I will just make a statement here with no opinion but it is something that glances across my mind.

Two deaths. Two special needs children. We now find out today that per the attorney anyhow for the family both were premature... And she is pregnant again so it is said and about to deliver.

I don't know what causes such things, the special needs or prematurity thing although I do know like we all do some basics of various things that can do that, genetics, health issues, maybe ability to carry a baby to term, age of each parent, their sperm, their egg, etc. Tragic. Or very tragic coincidence.

Very brave for them to have another having already suffered loss and prematurity and special needs children.

Again, I have no comment or opinion, just something that crosses my mind in this case that I do not quite know what to make of.

Brave was "tongue in cheek". Just saying sort of that I wonder why... Without saying that completely "out loud". I don't really see a financial motive... That I can think of anyhow. And again, BOTH parents? Birth control yes again both parents. He could use it/condom, and she could use BC. Now if it was someone new and she hoped to have a child with him because she had none with him, but from the little we know both parents were part of this child's death and another is due... I have seen more than one case though where we don't find out a "parent" is a stepparent until far into the case... I can refer to one some time in...

Family of Thaddeus Sran shocked after his parents are arrested, charged with the child’s murder

Nine days after two-year-old Thaddeus Sran disappeared, Madera Police announced his parents have been arrested and charged with his murder.

The rest of the Sran family is shocked by the news, finding out after holding a vigil of their own Friday for the toddler at the site authorities found a dead child believed to be their loved one.


Lawson did confirm Briseida Sran is currently eight months pregnant.

Sunndeep Sran, Sukhjinder Sran’s second cousin, said she didn’t expect her cousin to be arrested in this case.

She described her cousin, whom she calls Jinder, as a “really nice guy, quiet, humble.”

“I don’t know what happened in life for this to happen. I can’t fathom, I can’t understand,” Sundeep Sran said.

She joined other family members Friday morning for a private vigil for Thaddeus Sran at the pit authorities found a dead child between the ages of two-to-three. A memorial now stands at that location.

Sunndeep Sran said she’s grateful to the community for all they’ve done in the search for her young family member.

“[Those who] helped with the organizing of the searches and the vigils, we’re just grateful,” she said. “We’re grateful for law enforcement. They put in a lot of work.”

Sukhjinder Sran ans Briseida Sran’s three other children are currently with Child Protectivr Services. Sunndeep Sran said she and her husband are currently trying to get them into their home.

Reviews of area surveillance systems and door-to-door canvases of the neighborhood by officers also did not reveal any suspicious activity or vehicles seen in the area of the home the night before the boy was reported missing.

Madera Police Chief Dino Lawson credited his investigators when he said, “It was good old fashioned police work that led to the discovery of this scene. No tips were involved. They worked non-stop to try and locate this missing little boy, and they did.”

“The investigation into this death is ongoing,” Lawson said, “and we regret we are not able to release any further details at this time. Evidence results (from previous days) are still pending, and this new crime scene still has to be thoroughly processed. Everything is still on the table (in this investigation) and we haven’t ruled anything out,” he said.
