Madera 2-year-old missing, Police Chief: 'We're not ruling anything out'

The Madera Police Department held a news conference Wednesday afternoon where Police Chief Dino Lawson said he has reached out to the FBI who is assisting with the investigation into the disappearance of 2-year-old Thaddeus Sran.

When asked why there has been no Amber Alert issued, Chief Lawson said, "We're not there yet."

The chief also said the Madera County Sheriff's Department is also assisting with the investigation.

"Everything is on the table. We're looking at everything. We're not ruling anything out," said Chief Lawson.

Police say the 2-year-old child went missing overnight from his home on “C” Street sometime between 10:00 p.m. Tuesday and 8:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Thaddeus was born premature and has a feeding tube and is non-verbal.

Thaddeus did recently learn to walk and it's unknown if he was able to walk away or if he was taken.

Police say Thaddeus needs special care and needs to be reunited with his family as soon as possible.

He was last seen wearing a red shirt and Spiderman pants with a diaper underneath. He is approximately two feet tall and weighs 30 pounds.

Police are looking into the possibility that Thaddeus was abducted.

Madera County Sheriff’s Office, US Marshall’s, Federal Bureau of Investigations, and Madera County Probation are assisting with a search and investigation.

Presser was hard to hear anyhow. Caught a few things. West of Madera. As this article you posted said, they are pretty sure it is him. I have a solid feeling they have more and know more. Remarks on PD page under post tell more but I alternate in sharing rumor or not...?

Most are saying he was found at or on former property/residence, whether true or not...?

This is one case I don't think most felt much hope in from the start... Or belief in the initial story...?

I get impatient as anyone but to be fair it is about 9 days since the report and LE and helping agencies I give due credit to. They almost always have more than is shared. Yet when one tries to hope a child is alive every day that passes is worrisome.

Just speaking for myself there is much that bothers me in this one, but one of the things that keeps standing out to me is that both parents were involved or at least one was more than okay with knowing and covering for the other...

Although I will say that is my opinion only as I guess we still don't know it was a parent/parents...

I usually wait until confirmation but in this case, I never saw much hope from day one and believe they have found him or I seriously doubt they would have come so close to saying so and having a press conference--they know--so RIP Thaddeus, you were a child/a baby and in no way deserved this.

One thing I do think I caught or think I heard almost clearly enough is it sounded like all children have been removed from the couple. There was one reporter that kept asking a number of questions that I could not hear but I do think that was one answer. Jmo... Pretty sure I heard that almost clearly... Again jmo.

Attorney for Thaddeus Sran’s parents issues first statement, as Madera Police announce a dead child has been found

A disturbing development in the search for 2-year-old Thaddeus Sran, police say they’ve found the body of a toddler in an area west of Madera.

Moments before that announcement, the attorney representing Sran’s parents issued his first statement on their behalf. In it, he maintains the parents have been fully cooperative with this investigation and they just want their son home.

Madera Police Chief, Dino Lawson said a lead in the investigation lead them to Avenue 21 near Road 14. He said his investigators, along with partner agencies like Cal OES, brought their cadaver dogs.

At 9:15 a.m., they’d find the body of a child between the ages of two and three-years-old , according to Lawson. Although at this time the body couldn’t be positively identified, Lawson said it’s very likely the child they found is Sran.

He said this discovery is a testament to his department’s work on this case.

“From the beginning of this, they’ve gone 24/7. They have not stopped. They just continue to build investigative lead after investigative lead — that’s what lead us to the area,” Lawson said.


Lawson confirmed Sran’s parents’ three other children are currently with Child Protective Services.


Less than ten minutes before the Lawson’s announcement, Roger Nuttall, the attorney representing Sran’s parents, released a two-page statement. In it, Nuttall refutes police’s statement that they have stopped cooperating. Also, it infers investigators had stopped reaching out to the family after they hired him.

People in "remarks" at the PD page are saying he was on their former property. I can't verify it as truth of course and it could be entirely false and a rumor or assumption. I guess even if true, that does not tell us much as he could have been killed at the new property and then taken there.... I tend to think he never made the move with them...

I can only say these parents have never been on the news, doing interviews, begging for help to find their son, etc. To my knowledge they have never made a statement until just yesterday through an attorney. My guess is they gave their initial stories, stories did not add up, they were questioned as would be the norm in detail and they quit cooperating, I doubt they cooperated long is my guess... This is the second dead child in this family. The first one, per some accounts, in 2015 is still under investigation as well...

The lawyer said he advised them to stop talking once the police became accusatory. Lawyer says the accusatory statements were "sudden and surprising" considering the circumstances.
I think the circumstances are particularly incriminating and the police had every right to start pushing the parents harder. I mean, we hear it in 99% of missing children cases. They ALWAYS question the parents. They always push them. They HAVE to clear the family first, so they can move on to other options. In this case, they were not able to do that. It would be negligent of the investigators to not question them in this manner.
