OK Searching for my missing father STEPHEN MURPHY: Missing from Tulsa, OK - 2 May 1976 - Age 19

Searching for my father, Stephen Lee Murphy. No one had seen or heard from him 1976. No missing person report was filed until I filed one July 2022. Last anyone had contact with him he was 19 years old. He served in the Marine Corps from 1975-1984 when he was discharged out for AWOL and Misconduct. I tried to get his OMPF with no luck. Detective out of Tulsa Oklahoma is awaiting their request for his military file. If anyone knows him or has had any contact with him, I would appreciate knowing. I appreciate any help and suggestions. Thank you all so much

When you or the detective get access to his military records, many companies/ divisions have alumni-reunion groups on social media. Once you know what company or division he served in, it may be worth a shot reaching out to that group. Example: did you serve in XYZ Marine division between 1980-1992? If so, join our FB group!!

I requested military records. When I requested them I didn't have exact dates. I got the dates from the detective and she is waiting for them to be sent to her.

It's hurtful. I'm positive it wasn't you, But I'm sure it made you feel like it was. IMO it sounds like there was alot going on behind the scenes and people didn't want to talk about it and might have been keeping some information to themselves. The comment from her that he was "Just gone" really bothers me.

For long time I thought it was because of me. Than I realized I had nothing to do with whatever happened, so it wasn't my fault.

were you a newborn when he went missing or were you old enough to have any memory of how he was acting or if anything was different right before he disappeared?

I have no memory of him. I was born in 1975. I'm patiently waiting for the one piece of this puzzle to come.

It appears he was named after his mother's parents, I like that!
Anyway, the info is that the uncle is the last known person to have seen or spoke to him and since that was in '76, it seems to me that only people who could possibly provide any answers are those who were around at that time, which on his side of the family would include the mother's siblings and possibly their children, don't know about his father's sibs/neices and nephews...

The uncle is his father last living sibling. I have not figured out the children yet.

I am still unable to get his military records. The response I get is always the same, send proof of death or his SSN or his signature for authorization. Thank you

I'm probably asking a stupid question that has been asked before that will trigger you, And make you angry. Your grandmother, When she died, Didn't have his SS info?. A birth certificate?. Can you get one being his daughter?.

I'm sure she had his information. She would never respond to my letters or phone calls through out the years. My aunt that has taken over her mother's stuff said she couldn't find anything. She told me she was gonna send me copies of pictures of him and hasn't. I honestly think they don't care.

Been here back when but can't recall each detail but birth certificates can be obtained by anyone with a direct interest, like a child, parent, etc., which you are. Or is it that you don't know the county or state of birth? I can't recall what the reason is. My apologies if I should know the answer to this as I don't have time to look back.

I know I couldn't get it. But help find how you can. You can pm me. I do have alot going on right now. But I mean what I say.
