Authorities searching for missing Hardin County 4-year-old with autism​

Authorities are searching for a missing 4-year-old boy in Hardin County.

According to the City of Kenton, Quenton Ellcessor is non-verbal, deaf and has autism.

Quenton was last seen in the area of the 600 block of South Wayne in Kenton, when he walked away around 12:45 p.m. Thursday.

Police said foul play is not suspected.


City officials said his parents told them he likes to play hide and seek in cars, especially ones that look like his mother's red SUV.

The city says a dive team is searching the Scioto River and people on the ground searching the banks.

Day 2 of a search for a missing 4 year old boy got started a day break in Kenton.

First responders were joined by thousands of citizens who searched until dusk Thursday night. After dark, infrared cameras on drones and helicopters continued the search efforts.

Kenton Police Chief Dennis Musser told WKTN, “We’ve got multiple agencies here assisting us with multiple canines, BCT as well as several other agencies, and we’re continuing the search at this point. We also have several volunteers that we’re very blessed to have.”

Kenton Mayor Lynn Webb shared her thoughts on the situation, “My first thought is hope, my second thought is heartbreaking. It’s one of those thing you don’t think you will be facing as a community when you wake up on Thursday morning as we did.”

She said she is very proud of how the city came together, “Very proud of the overall response, and we talked about it, in light of today’s atmosphere, it really goes to show you that some of the negativity we carry is very surface because this little boy as brought all of us together and we need to remember that always.”


That too is what search crews would like. They are asking that residents search the trunks of their vehicles, truck beds, backseats, sheds, dog houses or any other building where he could have gotten into and stayed.

Quentin is non-verbal and severely autistic.

Ohio authorities are searching for a 4-year-old boy who disappeared Thursday at around 1 p.m.

Your News Now reports that Quentin Ellcessor was last seen at the 600 block of South Wayne Street in Kenton, wearing a Mickey Mouse shirt. According to officials, the boy is autistic, non-verbal, and likes to play hide-and-seek.

More than 2,000 volunteers were out Thursday searching, along with drones, a dive team, and a K-9 unit. Authorities added that Quentin also likes to hide in cars and could be hiding in an SUV, the type of vehicle his mother drives.

*Kenton is hard-of-hearing, NOT deaf
*Quentin was at his grandmother's house when he disappeared. He was seen on the porch of a neighbor's house. The neighbor "told him to go home".
*He has ran/hid in the past. Sounds like several times.

It is pretty sad when the moment I saw the headline my first thought was another autistic child before I even knew. I guess because there has been such a rash of them lately.

It sounds pretty likely this child has went missing more than once if they know he likes to hide in cars, even those not in his own yard or belonging to his own family. I wonder if the neighbor who told him to go home watched to see that he did or at least what direction he went.

There seems to be a focus on cars which made me think of hot car deaths so I looked up Kenton Ohio for 10/22 and found it was 77 degrees, warmer than I expected.

Prayers that this child is found safe.

I was thinking around noon today that it had been 48 hours and now we are way past that with another night as well. I wonder how far he could have gotten and how long he was missing before they noticed. I don't have a good feeling on this one, that is a long time to be gone with no one seeing him. Even a child with autism, wouldn't he move during these days...? From hunger perhaps?

I would likely be questioning this one more but for a neighbor allegedly saw him. The neighbor told him to go home. So there is a last sighting, if true, meaning this did not happen on a different day when last seen. Did he go home I wonder? It has not been said.

I also wonder, since it is said he was with his grandmother, was this his home? If not, when the neighbor told him to go home, could he have taken that as his home and not his grandmother's? Just an odd thought...

The amount of time passed in this case and his age doesn't leave me very hopeful of a positive outcome. For this boy to get far, I would think someone would have seen him or a camera pick him up...

I decided to map or try. So it said the 600 block of Wayne Street so that is what I went with. It is in town but kind of on the edge, outskirts it looks like and there is water very nearby...

Grrr.... Not surprised but damn it as you said (those were the first two words for me that popped into my head too as i read this post). I don't know what to think sometimes in some of these cases. There sure the heck are a rash of them these pasts months. What is going on??

I am the first to admit I have never dealt with a child with autism and maybe with Covid they don't have the help they had previously or something? It sounds like this child has taken off before with the remarks about hiding in cars, etc. So many water deaths or apparently so this year... Not all have been accidental. How does one know?

I'm not placing blame or trying to be mean but as Dr Phil always says let's use this as a teaching moment. Let's hope anyone who reads about this case that has a younger child (with a disability or not) takes extra security precautions to keep them safe.

I know exactly what you mean but then tell myself not to judge and my guess is you do the same. I too have thought if only the neighbor watched to be sure he got home and went in the house or took him herself/himself. Then I tell myself anyone may have done this in their lifetimes and nothing bad happened...

I also wonder if he has been out before and hides in cars why more precautions were not taken. Then I realize I do not deal with this child nor know the limitations maybe of what they can do and who is watching him and who they have to count on to care for him to work, etc. and/or the child's strong will and efforts to get out when one is not watching...

It comes from a good place though I think with you, and my thoughts too, is what can be done, how could it be prevented, hopefully it saves another child when someone sees this could happen... Not to put words in your mouth but since I have similar thoughts it is how I sense you mean them.

And it is just so darned sad and tragic.

Quentin was all boy. Full of energy and always ready to play. He loved to run, swing and go down any slide he could find. Quentin loved watching Puppy Dog Pals and PJ Mask. HIs favorite foods were mac and cheese and chicken nuggets He will be extremely missed by his puppy brother Blaze, who was his best friend, tug of war partner and constant companion. Quentin's loveable nature and sweet giggles will be greatly missed.
