Police search for woman who went missing in Philadelphia

Police are searching for a woman who went missing in Philadelphia over the weekend.

Kada Scott, 23, was last seen by her family on Saturday, Oct. 4, 2025, at 9:45 p.m. when she left a home along the 8300 block of Rodney Street in Philadelphia to go to her job at the Terrace at Chestnut Hill, a nursing home on 495 East Abington Avenue.

Police said Scott – who traditionally works overnights – then left her job before her shift ended. While she arrived to work in her car, she didn't leave in her vehicle, which was found by police in the parking lot of the nursing home.

Police interviewed Scott's coworkers who didn't notice any strange behavior prior to her disappearance. Police also said they haven't seen any cellphone activity from Scott since she went missing.

Family members told police that shortly before her disappearance, Scott had told them she was being harassed by someone through her phone. Police are working to determine who that person is.

Police also said Scott is active on social media but they haven't seen any activity on her social media accounts since her disappearance. Family members also said Scott does not have a history of disappearing, describing her as an energetic woman.

“What’s troubling about this case is number one, you have a 23-year-old young lady who has completely disappeared," Philadelphia Police Captain John Craig said during a Wednesday afternoon press conference. "We have no cellphone activity or social media activity and she has not reached out to family or friends.”

Scott's parents told NBC10 that they are sick to their stomachs over her disappearance.

"Please come home. I'm so scared and I love you and please come home," Scott's mother, Kim Matthews, said. "Something is out of place. She would never do something like this so I don't know what's going on."

Matthews said that Scott left with her car keys, iPad, iPhone and iWatch but since her phone was shut off, investigators explained that they can't track down her location.

A beautiful young woman with her whole world ahead of her. I will never get over these cases. Ever. Each one is as fresh as the other when it comes to sorrow and heartache.

That's a high bail for no murder charge.

Kidnapping is pretty serious and there's two kidnapping charges as well as other charges. It was also said he has a pattern of behavior and a prior extensive record. I suspect all of that was taken into account. I'd guess they don't want any chance of him on the streets.

Kidnapping for ransom?!!]

With the items of her they found. It doesn't look goood

She was with him and another guy the night she disappeared. The one charged is not cooperating and the other one is. I presume that the other one is one she was out with before she went to work??

PHILADELPHIA - Keon King appeared in court today facing serious charges connected to the disappearance of Kada Scott.
What we know:
King is charged with kidnapping for ransom, false imprisonment, and stalking in connection to Scott's disappearance. Scott, 23, was last seen at her workplace, The Terrace at Chestnut Hill Senior Living, on Oct. 4.
Her family has been actively searching for her.
Philadelphia Police found significant evidence at a former middle school near Awbury Arboretum.
They discovered Scott's cell phone case and a card with her name on it, according to a law enforcement source.
Kevin Scott, Kada's father, mentioned that one of his daughter's personal items was found.

Family's efforts and ongoing investigation

What they're saying:
Kevin Scott expressed his desperation as the search for his daughter continues.
"This is day 12 of Kada, not being with us, and as you know, each day, the desperation grows," said Scott.
The family is focusing on increasing the reward money through a GoFundMe campaign, hoping it will encourage people to come forward with information.
On Wednesday, a tip led police to locate King's vehicle at a condominium complex in East Falls.
The car was towed and is being processed for evidence, as police believe Scott may have been in the vehicle.

Keon King's previous cases

King has a protection from abuse order (PFA) against him from a third woman, which is active until 2027.
Philadelphia police sources say a video shared on social media was part of the evidence in a previous kidnapping case that was initially dismissed but refiled after King's latest arrest.
Law enforcement sources have indicated that King was also a suspect in a prior rape case involving another woman.

Evidence found in search

Investigators discovered Kada Scott's glasses, iPad case, cellphone case, and bank card in a search of an unused Philadelphia public school building.
This location is about two and a half miles from where Scott worked.
While sources say King has not been very cooperative with detectives, the young man Scott was with on the night she disappeared has been helpful.
Sources say he described Scott as approachable, recounting how he met her by simply rolling down his car window and striking up a conversation.
What's next:
The Philadelphia Police Department is continuing to search for the missing 23-year-old.

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- Female human remains were found Saturday amid the search for missing Philadelphia woman Kada Scott, police sources tell Action News.

The remains were found in what was described as a "fresh grave," according to sources.

The discovery was made by an abandoned elementary school near the Awbury Arboretum in Germantown.

Chopper 6 is live over the scene as the search continues.

That's an interesting and sad read. Had they pursued the previous case and asked for higher bond, Kada may be alive today. He is basically saying if you call a judge late at night that they will LOWER the bond which I take to mean as punishment for calling the judge in the middle of the night.

Domestic cases are often dropped as the woman often backs down out of fear or goes back to the abuser because they know they will get out of jail if they aren't out already. This one though it sounds like they had enough other evidence to charge without her testifying and they could have proceeded with the video evidence had they chosen to take that chance.

Tragically just another case where the guy should never have been on the streets to begin with which we see all too often these days.

A very specific anonymous tip. That would almost have to be someone who was involved or someone he told I first thought. However this article says people searching Friday noted fresh dirt and a board and maggots so maybe it came from one of them...?

People in the crowd were angry with LE for night finding her sooner as they had searched the area before and not found her.

I think as probably most do that this body is Kada's as it fits the area they were searching prior where they found some of her personal items.

I don't get the kidnapping for ransom either. I mean it's possible but from prior indications he kidnaps to assault, not for ransom.

The first we've heard mention of another guy who saw her that day or evening.

The one article also said it seemed she had come into contact wtih King in, it sounded like, just the last few days or not long prior to her disappearance.

Another report. Remains found in a shallow grave in a wooded area behind the school, after an anonymous tip.

Newsweek is a Trust Project member
Police have found human remains while searching for Kada Scott, a missing woman from Philadelphia.

John Stanford, the deputy commissioner of the Philadelphia Police Department (PPD), told reporters at a press conference that investigators had found remains that were around a week old in a shallow grave in a wooded area behind the abandoned Ada H. Lewis Middle School near the Awbury Arboretum in Germantown following an anonymous tip.
They have not yet been identified, but a PPD spokesperson told Newsweek that they believed they belonged to Scott.
The Philadelphia Police Department told Newsweek in a statement on Sunday morning: "On Saturday, October 18, 2025, Homicide Investigators continued their investigation into the disappearance of Kada Scott on the grounds of Ada H. Lewis Middle School, an abandoned school located near Awbury Arboretum. While conducting a search of the property, investigators discovered a shallow grave and recovered human remains believed to be those of Kada Scott. The Medical Examiner’s Office will work to confirm the identity and determine the cause of death."

Philadelphia Assistant District Attorney Ashley Toczylowski said at a news conference that King is believed to be the last known person to have contact with Scott before she went missing. She said their relationship and how long they have known each other remained under investigation.
He is facing multiple charges, including kidnapping and recklessly endangering another person.
Philadelphia Police Captain John Craig said during a news conference earlier this month that “in the days leading up to her disappearance, Ms. Scott related to her family and friends that an unknown individual or person had been harassing her via phone.”

Scott’s family launched a GoFundMe page to support search efforts and raise awareness. The fundraiser has so far collected over $15,000.

What To Know

Investigators had previously searched the area where the remains were found but had not found anything.
But speaking to reporters, Stanford said a specific tip prompted them to look at the area again where they found the remains in a shallow grave.
"All indications at this point is that it's a female," Stanford said, who added that police had been in communication with Scott's family but that they could not yet confirm the identity of the body.
"No one is happy that this is the ending," he said.
The police also found items believed to belong to Scott, like an iPad case, glasses, a cell phone case, and a card with her name on it.

What People Are Saying

Philadelphia Assistant District Attorney Ashley Toczylowski, speaking about Keon King at a news conference on Wednesday: “All roads at this point lead to him, and so that’s what we’re hoping leads us to her.”
The Philadelphia Police Department said in a statement to Newsweek: "This is a heartbreaking development, and our thoughts are with Kada’s family and loved ones during this extremely difficult time. The Philadelphia Police Department remains committed to uncovering the truth and ensuring that justice is served."
Philadelphia Mayor Cherelle Parker said in a statement: "There are no words that I can employ to remove the unimaginable pain and turmoil that the family of Kada Scott is experiencing with the tragic loss of their beloved daughter, sister and loved one. I pray that God will give the family a certain peace that passes all understanding to meet this moment. The City of Philadelphia is here to support them in any way that we can. We will continue to stay by their side."

What Happens Next?

The remains have been sent to the medical examiner's office to determine their identity.
Stanford urged the public to continue providing information to the police about the case at 215-686-TIPS (8477) or anonymously online here.

That's very interesting. So it wasn't King she was initially with the night she disappeared. Am wondering if he is the informant about the grave location?

DNA confirms police found the body of Kada Scott, sources say, and new details emerge on what led police to her corpse

It’s not yet clear how Kada Scott died, but a law enforcement source said police believe she was likely killed within 30 minutes of leaving her workplace the night she disappeared.

earlier searches, the tipster said, and they should look along the old wooden fence that divides the school from the recreation center next door, said the sources, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss an ongoing investigation.

“GO BACK YOU MISSED HER,” the tipster wrote, according to the sources.

Officers were walking through the densely wooded area again on Saturday afternoon, the sources said, when one stepped on a patch of earth that felt softer than the rest — leaves, sticks, and debris scattered loosely on top.

Police excavated the area, and, a few feet down, they found Scott’s body.

It’s not yet clear how she died. It could take days or weeks for the Medical Examiner’s Office to determine the cause of death.

But new video evidence suggests that Scott was likely killed within just 30 minutes of her leaving her workplace the night she went missing, the sources said.

After detectives identified King as a suspect, they pored over the location data from his and Scott’s phones. It showed that King was the last person in touch with Scott on Oct. 4, that his phone traveled with hers briefly before her phone was turned off, and that he was in the area of Awbury Arboretum later that night,

Investigators went to the recreation center on Friday and recovered new surveillance footage that showed King pull into the parking lot around 10:30 p.m. on Oct. 4 in a Hyundai Accent that had been reported stolen, two sources said. He left the car there that night — most likely with Scott’s body inside, the sources said.

The footage appeared to show King return to the car two days later and retrieve and move what they believe to be Scott’s body, the sources said. It’s not clear whether he acted alone.

So he's picked her up in a stolen car and left her in it for a few days.

Keon King faces more charges after death of missing Philly woman Kada Scott

Keon King, the suspect in the kidnapping of Kada Scott, faces additional charges after Scott's body was found over the weekend, investigators revealed during a press conference on Monday, Oct. 20.

On Sunday, Oct. 19, The Philadelphia District Attorney's Office approved new charges against King, including arson, causing catastrophe, conspiracy, unauthorized use of an automobile, tampering with evidence, recklessly endangering another person, and receiving stolen property.

Investigators determined King had used a stolen 2008 black Hyundai Accent to move Scott's body and that he later burned the vehicle.

While King faces several new charges, he has not been charged with murder as officials work to determine a cause of death.

Finally, while King is in custody, officials are still asking the public for tips and for any other victims of King to come forward.

Exactly! It’s even more upsetting when it could’ve been totally prevented. This beautiful young woman had her whole life ahead of her. And many many people who loved her dearly. It just breaks my heart.
