JOSHUA "JJ" VALLOW, TYLEE RYAN, TAMMY DAYBELL, & CHARLES VALLOW: State of Idaho/Arizona vs. Lori & Chad Daybell *GUILTY!* (13 Viewers)

1580704661510.png

Police seem to be no closer to finding 7-year-old Joshua “JJ” Vallow and 17-year-old Tylee Ryan than they were when this story began months ago.

Since that time, the story has gained international attention as it’s taken twists and turns involving a purported cult, dead spouses, delusions of divinity and preparing for the end of the world. Despite all the angles, and the ever-growing number of people related to the case, the facts remain essentially the same as when it was first announced.

The two children remain missing and the parents, Lori (Vallow) Daybell, and her new husband, Chad Daybell, refuse to disclose their whereabouts to police. Both have been named persons of interest in the disappearance of the children. Law enforcement is also investigating the deaths of the Daybells’ previous respective spouses, Charles Vallow and Tammy Daybell, though neither Chad nor Lori have been named suspects in those cases.

Oh and Colby when not attending has been feeding through someone live too. Lots of options on where to watch.

Tuesday, 10th June, Morning.

11:58 a.m. Judge debriefs about the sidebar. Says he marked an exhibit for appellate purposes. Beresky says he has a draft of final jury instructions. Asks parties to look at them. Nothing further.
11:57 a.m. Lunch recess until 1:15 p.m.
11:56 a.m. Treena has no further questions. Lori has no questions. Jury has no questions.
11:54 a.m. Another DNA profile on the driver’s side seat belt buckle matched Alex Cox’s. One in 715,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 possibility DNA is Alex’s. It matched.
11:51 a.m. One in 111,000,000,000,000,000,000 possibility that the DNA matches Alex’s – and it did. Mielke was not able to get a profile on the seat belt buckle due to not having enough DNA to do a comparison. The passenger interior door handle was inconclusive due to insufficient DNA. Same with the lug nuts of the tire. On the gear shift of the Jeep, there was a DNA mixture with at least three individuals of male and female origin. There was no major contributor. Alex Cox can not be eliminated as a contributor to the DNA mixture.
11:48 a.m. The Mesa Police Department does DNA testing for the Gilbert Police Department. Mielke was provided DNA samples from Alex Cox. Mielke was asked to prepare a DNA profile from the steering wheel of the Jeep. It was a mixture – three minor contributors with one major contributor of a male origin. The minor contributors were inconclusive. Major contributor DNA profile from the swab of the steering wheel matched Alex Cox.
11:47 a.m. There is a sex-determining marker to determine whether the profile is from a male or female. The DNA process is a four-step process. Step one is extraction, second step is quantitation, third step is inclusification and the fourth step is detection.
11:46 a.m. A major contributor is a person who is contributing the majority of the DNA to the sample. When doing testing, Miekle doesn’t know how many people contributed, but she can usually give a minimum number.
11:45 a.m. Sometimes there isn’t enough DNA present to get a profile. Sometimes there can be too much DNA present that it’s too complicated. If you have a mixture, there could be too much information to separate out the different numbers to determine how many people are contributing to the sample.
11:43 a.m. A DNA profile is like a graph. Miekle says there can be a known DNA profile and an unknown DNA profile. Scientists look at 23 different locations on the DNA chromosome. When looking at a known sample, Miekle is typically able to generate a DNA profile.
11:42 a.m. If a person touches an item, do they always leave DNA, Treena asks. Depends on the surface, whether the person is wearing gloves, and environmental factors could also come into play. Heat, moisture, sunlight, cleaning products, etc.
11:40 a.m. Treena asks what DNA is. It’s considered the blueprint of life. Half comes from your mother, half comes from your father. Everyone has their own DNA profile with the exception of twins. There are different types of DNA that can be used for biological testing.
11:39 a.m. Mielke describes her background and what her job entails.
11:38 a.m. Next witness is Vanessa Mielke, a forensic scientist with the Mesa Police Department. She is sworn in.
11:37 a.m. Pillar says colors are often mistaken, especially if you add a traumatic incident to the situation. No further questions. State will call its next witness.
11:34 a.m. Jurors questions: In your experience, is it unusual for witnesses to confuse colors or not remember them? Pillar says yes. Next question is whether the call Brandon made to his wife was recorded. Pillar says yes, that call was recorded. Were voicemails left explaining the situation? Brandon left a voicemail asking for a call back but the situation was not explained on the message. Pillar also called and spoke with Melani. Lori has no follow-up on the juror questions. Treena asks for clarification on why someone might not remember the exact color.
11:32 a.m. Judge reviews the juror questions with defense and prosecution. White noise is played in the courtroom.
11:31 a.m. Treena asks if Pillar had to rely heavily on Rexburg and other agencies to obtain evidence in Idaho. He says yes. Treena asks if those detectives are in a better position to discuss storage units and burner phones. Pillar says yes. Treena has nothing further. Jurors have questions.
11:30 a.m. Pillar was working with Rexburg police and other Idaho law enforcement agencies in relation to this investigation. Treena asks if Pillar used information from other agencies to create warrants, investigate, etc. He says yes.
11:29 a.m. Treena asks if in Feb. 2020, Pillar was investigating multiple cases. He says yes. She asks if during this time, he was working with many other agencies investigating Melanie Boudreaux. He says yes.
11:28 a.m. Treena asks about the CAST report done by FBI analyst Nick Balance. Pillar provided some information to Balance for him to use in his report.
11:26 a.m. Treena asks the type of gun changes the fact that someone was shot at. He says it does not. She asks if a handgun or rifle could kill someone. Both could. Treena asks about license plate readers. A license plate reader in Rexburg caught the Jeep twice during this timeframe.
11:25 a.m. Treena asks about the timeline of events that morning – when the doorbell camera caught the car driving and the loud gunshot noise followed by the time that Brandon called 911. Lori asks when he was looking at the Tesla bullet hole, did he have any question that the Tesla had been shot? No question at all. The gun was never recovered.
11:24 a.m. Treena asks about the interview Pillar did in the car with Brandon. The AC was running and Brandon spoke softly at times. The audio of the interview recording was not the best at times.
11:22 a.m. Treena brings up the glass and if he had a way to package the glass to keep it exactly the same way it was on the day it broke. He says you can’t keep shattered glass in its perfect shape. If it was shown today, you can’t say it’s the exact same form it was in five years ago…that’s why photos were taken.
11:20 a.m. Treena asks if Brandon marked the spot where he was shot right when it was happening. No he did not. Treena asks if Pillar was surprised Brandon didn’t measure the distances or do things like this. Pillar is not surprised.
11:19 a.m. Pillar used all the information he gleaned, including the fact the defendant owned a gray colored Jeep with Texas license plates. One juror is yawning.
11:17 a.m. Sidebar is over. Treena approaches. She begins by asking about the color of the Jeep – dark versus green versus camo green. She asks about statements made to Brandon by Officer Robb. Treena asks if he learned Lori had a dark colored Jeep following an incident in Chandler. He did obtain the Jeep and learned it was gray.
11:14 a.m. “She was seeking help but you really didn’t have any for her?” Lori asks. Treena sustains. Judge grants the objection. Lori says she has nothing further. Treena will now re-direct. She asks for a sidebar. White noise is played.
11:12 a.m. Lori says when Melani called Pillar on Oct. 14, what did he do. He referred her to speak with an attorney regarding custodial issues. Lori asks why she came to him and if he was aware that Brandon had not returned the children to her. Treena objects halfway through the question and Lori keeps talking. Judge sustains. Lori asks how long Pillar spoke with Melani. About ten minutes.
11:11 a.m. Lori asks Pillar if he asked Brandon if he owned any firearms at the time. He said he didn’t have any in his possession. Lori asks if police went through the house and garage. They did. Lori asks if Brandon’s garage was open or closed when he arrived. It was open.
11:10 a.m. Lori asks if they ever discovered if Brandon was a smoker. He says no. She asks if he discovered that Alex Cox was a smoker. He says no. A neighbor, who doesn’t smoke, saw the cigarette butt and thought it was out of place so police took it.
11:08 a.m. Lori asks if additional instructions were given to Brandon after the vehicle was given back to him. There was not. Lori asks if any other evidence was taken to the police department. Pillar believes there was a cigarette butt and multiple photographs, but he doesn’t think any other evidence was taken. Lori asks if DNA was taken off the cigarette butt. He says no, but it’s still retained in property. Lori says if you would have taken DNA off the cigarette butt, they might know someone who was at the scene.
11:06 a.m. Lori asks if it’s fair to say that most of the information he gleaned is from Brandon Boudreaux. He says in the early days of the investigation, yes. Lori asks if they were on a first-name basis. He says yes. That’s uncommon for him to do in all his investigations. “So most people don’t call you Det. Pillar?” Lori says. He says not typically – especially with victims or witnesess. He tries to keep it casual.
11:05 a.m. I see one juror reviewing his notepad. Others are turning side-to-side in their chair. Others are looking straight ahead. Others are writing.
11:04 a.m. Colby Ryan just walked in the courtroom wearing a gray suit. He is sitting on the second row behind Brandon.
11 a.m. Treena asks for a sidebar to discuss the document. White noise is played in the courtroom as the parties put on their headphones.
10:57 a.m. Lori argues that no neighbors saw the Jeep and Pillar was untrue in his affidavit. He says if anything was wrong, it was the gray Jeep. Lori wants to ask him about something else in the affidavit. Her advisory attorney stands back up and takes the document back up to Pillar.
10:56 a.m. Pillar reviews the document. Lori asks what neighbors saw the gray two-door Jeep. He doesn’t recall who specifically said they saw the gray two-door Jeep. Pillar says at the time of this affidavit, police were looking for the gray Jeep.
10:54 a.m. Lori says that in Pillar’s affidavit, he said neighbors saw a gray two-door Jeep. She asks if he wants to take a look at the transcript. He says, “Sure.” Her advisory attorney walks it up to him.
10:53 a.m. Pillar says more than two people have testified that they heard a loud noise. The neighbor with the Ring doorbell and Brandon testified. Pillar says more people in the report heard a loud noise. Lori says, “Not in a report that I’ve read!” Treena objects, judge sustains.
10:51 a.m. Lori asks how many neighbors heard a gunshot. Pillar says around four neighbors heard a loud noise or gunshot. Other officers spoke with the neighbors. Lori wants names of the people who heard the loud noise. He doesn’t know off the top of his head. Lori says maybe it was only two.
10:50 a.m. Lori says if Brandon said he saw a rifle but the bullet came from a handgun, wouldn’t that be contradictory? Pillar says no – it was Brandon’s belief and observation in those mere seconds. They had a bullet hole and someone shot at him.
10:48 a.m. Lori asks if the glass was tested. It was not. She asks if the trajectory remains were tested. Pillar says those fragments could not determine any type of rifling when the weapon is shot. The remnants were not sent off for further testing because they could not get any weapon to compare it to.
10:46 a.m. Lori says, “Having been a case agent hundreds of times, you must have known if someone was charged with a crime, the defense would need to have access to the car to test it with an expert?” Pillar says nobody was killed or injured and they felt they didn’t need to keep it. Lori asks if it’s not in their protocol to keep evidence. Pillar says it is their policy to keep evidence.
10:45 a.m. Lori’s paralegal just walked in. Pillar says the vehicle was not impounded and the car was turned over to Brandon within approximately a day.
10:44 a.m. Lori asks what happened to the Tesla. It was taken to the police station. Pillar drove it to the evidence building. While there, they looked into the bullet hole. He says they weren’t there very long. Pillar admits it was a bit unorthodox for him to drive the car. They had no intention of impounding the car.
10:41 a.m. Lori approaches the podium. She wants to talk about the Tesla. She asks what happened to the Tesla window after it fell out of the car. He says it was discarded and thrown away. She asks when. Lori asks why it wasn’t saved. He says they collected what they needed and had photos. She asks if there was a bullet hole in the window. He says there wasn’t a hole, but an impact point.
10:41 a.m. Sidebar is over. Lori is consulting with her advisory attorney.
10:40 a.m. Not as many people attending the trial today. There are around 15-20 empty seats in the courtroom. Brandon and his wife are here with family members and friends. Kay Woodcock is also here.
10:37 a.m. We are streaming proceedings here:
10:36 a.m. Lori asks if he disregarded the information in the screenshot. Treena objects and asks for a sidebar. Judge says, “Yeah, we need to sidebar.” We don’t know what the contents of the screenshot are at this point.
10:34 a.m. Pillar says he does not remember this. He says a lot of correspondence was shared and it looks familiar to allegations he has heard about the investigation, but he does not remember this specific document. Lori says this is part of the seven screenshots that Brandon sent to him. He says, “Ok.” Lori says during this time, he was still gathering information. Treena objects that there is no foundation – timeframe, etc. Lori asks if he has ever read the information on the screenshot. He says it’s possible if it was sent to him in an email.
10:32 a.m. Lori asks if this is one of the screenshots that Brandon sent to him that he reviewed. Pillar says it doesn’t have any headings or footers on it. He says it appears to be a Word document and he can’t testify that it’s what Brandon sent him. Lori asks if he recognizes it as something he has read before. He is reviewing the document.
10:31 a.m. Lori asks if Pillar reviewed the documents when they were sent to him. He did. She asks if he included them in his investigation. He says they are included in the investigation. Lori asks if Melani gave her theory about what happened on Oct. 2, 2019. Not that he can remember, Pillar says. Lori wants to show Pillar a document. Her advisory attorney walks it up to him.
10:30 a.m. Lori asks if Pillar requested financial documents and information from Brandon about Melani. He says yes. It was information about Melani’s financial gain if Brandon died.
10:25 a.m. Lori has her advisory attorney hand Pillar a document. He says it’s an email exchange between him and Brandon. Lori moves to publish the email. Prosecutor objects. Judge says we have already discussed the exhibit and the objection is sustained. Lori asks a question about financial information between Brandon and Melani. Treena asks for a sidebar. White noise is played.
10:24 a.m. Lori asks how many times Pillar has communicated with Brandon over the past 5.5 years. Treena objects – asked and answered – as well as potential 404b issues. Judge overrules – says Brandon was asked the question, not Pillar. Pillar says multiple times – calls and emails.
10:22 a.m. Lori asks Pillar if he discovered on Oct. 9 that there was a gray Jeep at Lori’s household. He did. Lork asks if Pillar searched for a green Jeep with Texas plates on it. He says no. There was never a green Jeep specifically searched with a Texas plate. He said that would be farmed out to his civilian investigators. They didn’t have enough to go after at that moment.
10:21 a.m. Pillar them spoke with Melani on Oct. 14. She was seeking advice on custodial issues. Lori asks if Brandon provided Pillar with the VIN number to her Jeep. Pillar does not recall, but does remember getting the license plate for the Texas Jeep early on. He doesn’t remember specifically getting the VIN number from Brandon.
10:19 a.m. Lori asks if Melani advised him about a business deal that may have gone bad. Treena objects, Lori continues to talk over her. Judge sustains. Lori asks Pillar if he investigated anything Melani said. Pillar asks if she can be more specific. She says yes. Lori asks if he followed up with anything he learned during the interview with Melani. He says he did and they spoke again.
10:18 a.m. Pillar eventually contacted Melani and she agreed to meet with him the day after the shooting at the police department in a private interview room. Pillar interviewed her. Melani came in voluntarily, did not ask for an attorney and spoke with Pillar for around an hour.
10:17 a.m. Pillar wanted to let Melani know a shooting had just occurred. Brandon tried to call Melani several times and she didn’t answer. Pillar did not attempt to call Melani.
10:14 a.m. Lori begins by asking about Pillar’s interview with Brandon in the car. She asks about Pillar telling Brandon not to contact Melani. Pillar says he tried to contact Melani to get her side of the story because Brandon and Melani were separated.
10:12 a.m. Judge Beresky is on the bench. Lori and her team are at the defense table. Prosecution is at their table. Judge says we will proceed with Det. Pillar on the witness stand.
10:02 a.m. Back in the courtroom. Tammy Daybell’s cousin is attending the trial today. She brought these cookies with a message printed on the wrapper and passed out a few in the lobby.

Monday 10th June, afternoon.

Lori Vallow Daybell is on trial in Maricopa County, Arizona, on one charge of conspiracy to commit the murder of Brandon Boudreaux, her former nephew-in-law. Nate Eaton is live in the courtroom with updates. Please excuse any typos. Times listed below are in Mountain Standard Time, so they are an hour behind Idaho. (Arizona does not observe Daylight Saving Time.) The most recent updates are at the top.

4:18 p.m. Treena says state will call its final witness tomorrow – Nick Balance. Judge says if defense is calling witnesses, they will need to be here tomorrow after lunch. If not, Treena asks if they should be prepared to give closing arguments tomorrow afternoon. He says that is his intent.
4:17 p.m. Judge says we will break for the evening. We will start tomorrow at 10:15 a.m. Join me tonight on “Courtroom Insider” at 8 p.m. MT. on the East Idaho News YouTube channel.
4:17 p.m. Treena has no other questions for Hermosillo. Lori will now cross-examine Hermosillo. She says she has no questions. Jury has no questions.
4:15 p.m. Lori’s account searched for Gilbert news on Oct. 2 at 8:13 p.m. She also searched for Gilbert Arizona News Breaking news, local headlines. She also visited the news website.
4:14 p.m. There was another search for Jeep Wranlger JK Rear Seat YouTube video. The storage unit surveillance video showed Lori and Chad, and then Alex, with what appeared to be a rear seat from the Jeep.
4:12 p.m. Lori’s account searched for Walgreens and movies in Idaho Falls. On Sept. 30, there was a search for “how to get the back seat out of my jeep wrangler” at 5:14 p.m.
4:09 p.m. On Lori’s account, searches were done about where to live in Rexburg, apartments, etc. The lollytime account searched for the Pioneer Road apartment in August. There were several searches.
4:06 p.m. Hermosillo also served a warrant on Google from Lori Vallow’s records from the lollytime account. Treena moves to admit the records as evidence.
4:02 p.m. Treena shows Hermosillo a map showing the searches she just went through. She moves to admit the map and we see Alex’s search locations.
4:01 p.m. The final search on Alex’s account was for the Idaho Falls Regional Airport on Oct. 3.
3:59 p.m. On Oct. 2 at 9:55 a.m., there was a search on the account for Arizona Farms Road. Another search was done for Lakeside, Arizona, and another search was done for Holbrook, Arizona (where the license plate reader caught the Jeep). Another search for Moab, Utah and then Fillmore, Utah.
3:57 p.m. Multiple searches were done that evening for Brandon’s address and the next morning at 7:17 a.m. – a few hours before the shooting.
3:56 p.m. Los Favoritos was visited at 1:12 p.m. in Mesa that day, Treena points out. On the evening of Oct. 1, more map searches were done on Alex Cox’s Gmail account for the Phelps Street address where Brandon was living.
3:54 p.m. Treena asks if there was a map in the Google records on Oct. 1 to the Power Road address where Brandon lived. There was. It was searched at 1:58 p.m. – the day before the shooting.
3:53 p.m. Many jurors are taking notes. Treena shows more records and maps that were searched on the homerjmaximus account. There was a search for Dan’s Window Tinting and a map with directions.
3:50 p.m. Another website with a ballistic trajectory calculator was searched on the same day Alex visited the outdoor shooting range where you could fire a rifle. On Oct. 2 (the day of the shooting) at 7:46 p.m., the account searched for “man shot in gilbert az.” Another search was done within minutes about a man being shot in Gilbert, Then an Oct. 3 search “avc news brandon boudreaux.”

3:49 p.m. Some of the other searches include YouTube how to load your own ammunition and a video on how to load your own ammunition. Also best projectile for long range with a 300 win mag and a website about the 300 Winchester Mangum load data. These searches were done on Sept. 25.
3:47 p.m. On Sept. 30, the account searched for weather conditions in Phoenix. On the same day, he also searched for places to shoot near Rexburg. On Sept. 23, there is a search for tint shop Idaho falls and auto tint near me.

3:44 p.m. Google provided Hermosillo with subscriber information. The homerjmaximus account was registered to Alex Cox. Treena shows on the screen that on Sept. 27, Alex’s account searched, “minute of angle.” On Sept. 27, there were different searches for ammunition and calculators. A search for a ballistic trajectory calculator was done at 9:30 p.m.
3:43 p.m. After the shooting, there were searches for locations in Utah and Idaho. They appeared to be a route north to Idaho Falls, Hermosillo says. The last search was Idaho Falls. Treena moves to admit records.
3:40 p.m. Hermosillo was tasked with going through the homerjmaximus account records. They contained Google searches for window tint shops, places to shoot near Rexburg, how to load your own ammunition, best projectiles for long range, searches for ballistic charts and calculators, “man shot in Gilbert” and there were maps to Dan’s Window Tinting. There were also searches of Brandon’s house on Phelps Street.
3:39 p.m. Police found a device in the garage that was signed in under the homerjmaximus Gmail account. That was one of Alex’s accounts. The homerjmaximus account was logged into the TracFone.
3:37 p.m. Treena shows the airline itinerary details on the screen. Idaho Falls is the closest major airport to Rexburg. Rexburg has a small airport, but no commercial flights. Lori is familiar with the Rexburg airport – it’s where I greeted her when she was extradited back from Hawaii. Here’s the video.

3:36 p.m. Melani flew on Allegiant from Mesa Gateway Airport to Idaho Falls on Sept. 26, 2019. She flew back to Mesa on Sunday, Sept. 29.
3:33 p.m. Treena displays the TracFone records. The phone number matches the receipt.
3:30 p.m. Treena shows the Walmart phone receipt. It was purchased on Sept. 27, 2019, at 7:10 p.m. The buyer paid cash, so it could not be traced to someone who bought it.
3:27 p.m. Treena brings up the burner phone purchased at Walmart in Idaho Falls. There is also a Walmart in Rexburg. Idaho Falls is about 25 miles south of Rexburg. Treena asks if law enforcement obtained a copy of the receipt for the burner phone purchased in Idaho Falls. They did. The phone was used in Gilbert, Arizona on Oct. 2, 2019.
3:25 p.m. The club kept sign-in records, which were obtained by police. Alex Cox signed in on Sept. 3, 2019. He wrote his name and phone number. Someone also signed in on Sept. 28 and 29 using the initials CQUINT – very similar to Alex’s license plate, with only the P missing. Treena shows the sign-in roster on the screen.
3:23 p.m. The seat and tire were in the storage unit for about 24 hours, Hermosillo says. He says that firing ranging in Rexburg were contacted to see if Alex had ever attended one. He did visit the outdoors Unified Sportsman Club west of Rexburg. The club is open to the public.

3:21 p.m. Treena shows another angle showing the Nissan Rogue driving out of the facility around 1:13 p.m. on Oct. 3.
3:18 p.m. Treena shows another clip where we see Alex carrying the tire back out of the unit and placing it in the Nissan Rogue.
3:16 p.m. Treena now shows video from Oct. 3. Lori is with someone and Treena asks who it is. It’s Alex Cox, Hermosillo says. At 1:12 p.m., the duo visit the storage facility and Alex is carrying what appears to be a folded bench seat. Many jurors are writing.
3:15 p.m. Back in the courtroom. Treena begins by saying, “The same day we had someone firing from the back of a Jeep without a rear tire, Lori Vallow and Chad Daybell are putting a tire in a storage unit in Rexburg, Idaho?” Hermosillo says, “That’s correct.”
2:55 p.m. Afternoon recess for 15 minutes.
2:52 p.m. The jurors all seem to be looking pretty intently at the large screen in front of them as Chad wheels the tire into the hallway of the storage unit. Treena is unable to enhance or zoom in on the video to get a closer look – but we did. You can see it here – along with other items found in the unit.

2:49 p.m. Chad Daybell was with Lori on Oct. 2. Chad and Lori were observed putting items into the unit, including a tire. One of the jurors smiled when Hermosillo said that and then looked down to write something in her notebook.
2:46 p.m. Treena now shows Lori visiting the storage unit on Oct. 2 – the day of the shooting. The Nissan arrives around 1:25 p.m. Treena shows a few angles of Lori driving into the facility and going to the unit.
2:44 p.m. We now see an interior video of the storage units. Lori enters at the end of the hallway and opens the door to her unit. Nobody was with Lori on Oct. 1. She’s by herself.
2:41 p.m. Treena shows another angle showing the Rogue parked outside the door entrance to the storage unit facility.
2:38 p.m. The person is Lori. Treena asks how he knows it’s her. He says he has seen her multiple times over the past five years. Treena moves on to another video. It shows the car parked at the facility and Lori is coming out with papers in her hand.
2:36 p.m. Treena asks to play the videos. We see Lori’s Nissan Rogue entering on Oct. 1 – the day she signed up to rent the unit. We see another video of someone getting out of the Nissan Rogue and going into the office at the business.
2:34 p.m. After Oct. 3, video at the facility showed the Ford F150 visiting the storage unit. Treena shows a photo of the truck visiting on Oct. 6.
2:32 p.m. Treena moves to admit the surveillance video. She asks if Hermosillo saw the same blue Nissan Rogue coming and going to the storage unit. He did. Treena admits photos of the Nissan Rogue captured at the storage unit.
2:30 p.m. Hermosillo obtained video from Self Storage Plus on Oct. 1, 2 and 3. I recently did a recap of the storage unit video here.

2:28 p.m. There were multiple rifles in the garage. Treena is showing photos of all of them. She asks about the search warrant on unit 174 – the one rented by Melani Boudreaux. Hermosillo knew Melani had been married to Brandon.
2:26 p.m. We see a photo of a rifle found in the garage. There is a rifle case and another rifle. Treena points out a part of the rifle and asks, “What’s this?” Hermosillo says it’s a scope. There were threaded barrels on some of the rifles that you could attach a silencer to. There was ammunition in the bag and boxes of ammunition in the garage. “There was a lot of ammunition,” Hermosillo says.
2:24 p.m. Unit 175 was rented by Alex Cox but on Nov. 1, Hermosillo saw Lori entering the unit and her Nissan Rogue was parked at the unit. Unit 107 was on the other side of the complex. She was never seen in that unit. Treena shows photos of Alex Cox’s passport, his credit card, tax paperwork, mail, financial information and more.
2:21 p.m. Police had been advised that Brandon was shot at with a rifle. Treena moves to admit photos from inside the garage, including pictures of the weapons.
2:20 p.m. Hermosillo says women’s clothing was found in the garage of apartment 175. There were boxes in the garage and it appeared people had been moving things in. There were various items, including prepper water containers. Police found paperwork related to Alex Cox including passports and bills. Several weapons were found in the garage.
2:18 p.m. Lori Ryan’s name was on the contract. Before she became Lori Vallow, she was Lori Ryan. The contract was signed on Oct. 1, 2019. Self Storage Plus is about a half mile from Lori’s apartment.
2:17 p.m. Treena shows a photo of the exterior apartments and a photo of the storage unit agreement.
2:16 p.m. Treena asks if Hermosillo saw any documentation related to renting a storage unit for Lori. He found a rental agreement in the master bedroom. It detailed the address of the storage unit – Self Storage Plus.
2:14 p.m. Apartment 107 was completely vacant. It looked like everyone had moved out. No furniture, no groceries, nothing. It was ready for a new tenant. In apartment 175, there was furniture, food in the pantry, food in the refrigerator, beds, it looked like someone was living there, Hermosillo says. But upstairs, the entire closet was empty other than hangers. “It looked like somebody had just grabbed everything hanging and took off with what they had,” he says.
2:13 p.m. Treena asks Hermosillo if he went to unit 175 to see if anyone was there. He did, along with apartment 174, which is where Melani lived. They were unable to make contact with anyone at any of the apartments. On Nov. 27, search warrants were executed on the three units. Nobody was home in any of the units.
2:12 p.m. Treena shows Alex Cox’s rental agreement on the screen. It was dated Aug. 26, 2019.
2:10 p.m. Alex was the renter in apartment 175. Hermosillo went to apartment 107 to find Lori and nobody was there.
2:09 p.m. Treena shows the rental agreement on the screen. It was submitted on August 14. It listed that she had a Nissan Rogue and a Jeep Wrangler with Texas plates – the Jeep that Hermosillo impounded.
2:08 p.m. Documents showed Lori was the renter of apartment 107. Hermosillo never saw her at 107 – he saw her at 175.
2:07 p.m. Treena asks him to point out where Alex Cox was living. It was unit 107. He points on the map. Treena asks about Melani Boudreaux. She was living in 174, right next door to Lori. Hermosillo returns to his seat.
2:05 p.m. Treena admits a satellite Google map image of the apartment complex. She asks Hermosillo to point out where unit 175 was located. Hermosillo gets up from his seat and points on the TV where the apartment is.
2:04 p.m. The pickup truck had Arizona plates on it and it was a Ford F150. The plates were personalized – CPQUINT. Hermosillo knew Lori and Alex were living at the townhomes.
2:02 p.m. Treena asks if Hermosillo later did surveillance at the Pioneer Road property. On Nov. 26, 2019, he had contact with Chad Daybell. Hermosillo knew it was Lori’s current husband. Lori’s brother, Alex, was also with Chad. They were unloading Alex’s pickup truck into the garage of apartment 175.
2:01 p.m. Treena zooms in on the receipts inside the Jeep. One if from Los Favoritos in Mesa, Arizona, on Oct. 1, 2019, at 1:12 p.m. – the day before Brandon was shot at.
1:59 p.m. Treena moves to admit photos taken from the search warrant. She displays them on the screen. The photos show the front, side and other angles of the Jeep, including the sticker on the window. The tire is attached to the back of the Jeep. Treena asks if they could open the rear window with the tire attached. They could not.
1:57 p.m. Another search warrant was executed in December. Photos were taken of the Jeep and receipts inside in the vehicle. On Dec. 18, 2019, Hermosillo noted a receipt dated Oct. 1, 2019, from Arizona. That stuck out because they were investigating a shooting that occurred on Oct. 2.
1:56 p.m. Hermosillo noticed the tinting on the Jeep was extremely dark – darker than Idaho state law would allow. He couldn’t see inside unless he got right up to the window. Hermosillo learned later that the Jeep had been taken to a shop to get tinting put on.
1:55 p.m. Police went over several times that day to let Lori know they had her Jeep. They weren’t able to make contact with her. Alex and Lori never called the police to say their Jeep was stolen. Hermosillo coordinated with Gilbert police to come to Rexburg and process a search warrant on the Jeep.
1:53 p.m. We see the photos from that day or Lori walking in and out of the garage door into the house. Hermosillo looked for the Jeep all weekend and was finally able to locate it on Monday, Nov. 4. He was on the way home from the gym and looked over to his right and saw the Jeep parked outside. He contacted a tow company to seize the Jeep and tow it to his interior impound lot. Hermosillo told Gilbert he had seized the Jeep.
1:52 p.m. Hermosillo followed Lori to Walgreens on Main Street and then back to her residence. She was driving a blue Nissan Rogue. State moves to admit two photos of Lori’s Nissan Rogue in Rexburg from Nov. 1.
1:50 p.m. They were given the name of Lori Vallow. The detectives took photos of individuals coming and going in and out of the garage of unit 175. It was Lori.
1:49 p.m. Hermosillo was given an address on Pioneer Road. It was a townhouse complex. Hermosillo was told to focus on unit 175. He obtained a search warrant. On Nov. 1, he and other detectives went out to the address. They were asked to perform surveillance to see if they could locate a 2018 Jeep Wrangler. They performed surveillance and were unable to locate the Jeep that day.
1:48 p.m. Rexburg has around 40,000 people, he says. There are seven detectives in the department. In 2019, there were around seven detectives too. As a detective, he covers all types of investigations. Treena asks about Nov. 1, 2019. He spoke with Det. McDermott that day and was asked to locate and impound the Jeep.
1:46 p.m. Hermosillo takes the stand. Treena asks where Rexburg is. He says it’s a little town in Southeast Idaho. He has been with the Rexburg Police Department since 2001.
1:44 p.m. No further questions from Treena. Jury has no questions. Next witness is Lt. Ray Hermosillo from the Rexburg Police Department.
1:42 p.m. Lori has nothing further. Treena will now re-direct. She asks about the particles being found in the driver side back window. He did. Treena asks if hairspray or brake dust would create the three-particle characteristics of GSR. He says they would not be all together – no matter how many fireworks, hairspray, etc. was in the Jeep. Treena says it doesn’t matter how many you find – it’s the fact that it’s there, correct? He says yes.
1:41 p.m. Lori asks if the particles would have been found in the back of the Jeep and is it safe to say that whoever collected the stubs ended up what Mueller would analyze. He says correct, he didn’t collect the stubs.
1:39 p.m. Lori asks about the three elements in GSR. She says that in his report, GSR particles could also be found in non-firearm components. She asks where. He says lead could be found in paint, other particles could be found in cosmetics or fireworks. Lori asks if you would find a three-component GSR particle in fireworks. He says no. She asks about hairspray or fertilizer. He’s not familiar with those components being in those items.
1:38 p.m. “Just a few questions,” Lori says. “You had said a gun may have been discharged in this vehicle. Is that your conclusion?” “Yes,” he responds.
1:38 p.m. Treena has no further questions. Lori approaches the podium.
1:36 p.m. GSR particles were also found on the driver’s side interior window, Mueller testifies. He concluded that the inside of the vehicle was in the vicinity of a firearm when it was discharged or came into contact with an item that had GSR on it.
1:35 p.m. In a vehicle where the gun is discharged and the samples aren’t collected until a month later, why is it important to look at multiple locations, Treena asks. Mueller says any areas inside the vehicle could have GSR on them. He wanted to find any particles in the Jeep – not necessarily the specific location inside the Jeep.
1:33 p.m. Mueller says that area of the Jeep was consistent with being in the vicinity of a discharged firearm. On the passenger interior window, there was also GSR.
1:31 p.m. Participles associated with GSR were found on the passenger side interior back window. There were multiple particles. If there is any number less than 10 particles, he counts each one. If there are more than 10, he doesn’t count.
1:30 p.m. The kits came from the Gilbert Police Department. He began his analysis on one of the kits. Three of them were from inside the Jeep, specifically the windows.
1:28 p.m. Mueller’s department helps other departments in the Phoenix area. He was given two kits to help analyze. They were properly sealed with all integrity seals on them.
1:25 p.m. A GSR kit has vials inside the kit. They are labeled and when you open the cap to the vile, there is a small aluminum stub with sticky tape. That tape is used to sample an area. The vials and GSR stubs are put into a kit, and that’s when Mueller examines them.
1:24 p.m. Treena asks if a person is inside of a Jeep and fires a rifle out the back window, could GSR be found on the window a month after the shooting? He says it’s possible. If someone went in and cleaned the windows with Windex, it would remove GSR. Someone cleaning the area around where the gun was shot could remove the particles.
1:23 p.m. Mueller says if a person fires a gun from within a vehicle that is parked, he would expect to find GSR particles. GSR particles are like a fine, metallic dust. Tehy don’t decay or have a halflife – they could wash or blow away.
1:20 p.m. Treena asks what gunshot residue is. Small metallic particles formed from the discharge of a firearm, he says. Residue is made up of lead, barium and antimony. GSR particles are not visible – they are very small that cannot be seen with the naked eye, he says. A high-powered microscope is used to analyze the GSR. Same particles are generated regardless of the firearm or ammunition that is used.
1:19 p.m. Mueller is trained in examining gunshot residue. As he explains his background, several jurors take notes.
1:18 p.m. Mueller is the Forensic Scientist Lab Supervisor at the Phoenix Police Dept.
1:17 p.m. Next witness is Kyle Mueller from the Phoenix Police Department.
1:16 p.m. Beresky is on the bench. Lori is at her table with the defense team. Treena Kay, her paralegal and Det. Pillar are at the prosecutor’s table. Judge asks for jury to be brought in.
1:11 p.m. We are back in the courtroom. Spotted Rexburg Police Det. Ray Hermosillo in the lobby waiting area. Lori filed a motion weeks ago asking that he not be allowed to testify. Judge denied it. Last time Hermosillo testified was in Chad Daybell’s April 2024 trial in Boise, Idaho.

Playing catch up here. She is acting like a 6 year old.

Yeah that's a few days passed now. She couldn't come up with/didn't have any medical reason from the jail, they cleared that and I think that time she claimed just a headache but shes also coughed here and there too, as Linda who I've been watching has pointed out, she only thinks to do it when the P is up. It's ridiculous. And you're right, like a child.

He also told her if I recall correctly and I think I do that he can REVOKE he pro se status and put her advisory counsel in place with no more playing counsel for her (my worlds there). He'she not been amused and she messed up the entire schedule. He gave her like a day and a half to get better and get tested or whatever. She then had the gall to whine she doesn't know who each P witness is going to be each day when SHE is the one who messed up all the witnesses and lineup and travel for the P. It's been something else.

The day she told him he was yelling at her (he was not) and said she treats him with respect and he came back with she has NEVER shown him respect was quite a fiery one. Took place with the jury not present. That's probably in the video above, several people have it and have linked it in their shows, etc.

Not even sure where she is aiming really in this one. At times, it seems she is trying to find out what more is known about he niece Mel as it was stated she is still under investigation... At times it seems she is trying to clear Alex and while she could claim she had no part in anything, much ties her of course to the Jeep and it was her vehicle. They have had a LOT imo and they haven't even gotten to the video of them at the storage unit yet showing them with the Jeep stuff, nor have they covered all the texts which I think they will at the end here of the P case. I did miss part of today and no the detective from I think ID was up but I didn't see any of it. He may well be the one going to cover these things. I have to go watch yet as watching her with him should be interesting, they labeled him dark if I recall. None of them liked him driving by (including Chad's kids and Chad, and more), he was an enemy the minute they started getting onto things...

Kind of an overall recap, not sure if it helps or not. She almost never misses going at a male detective and she did get pretty snotty with one but overall, no major losing it with anyone as to witnesses. She skips a lot of others as to cross exam entirely.

Her faking illness was the most ridiculous thing I've ever seen. She's clearly well now but still trying to show she was sick and still has some coughing, then it's headaches and she requested she have medicine each day from the jail for the headaches trying to show they are real. Such b.s. She like laid her head down on the table one day and all else, this was some time back.

Not sure this helps but was trying to help some as to how it's went. He biggest beefs are with the judge. She's come very, very close to opening the door to her other crimes as they call it.

One last thing the prosecutor is objecting a LOT more than in the last trial. I think both the P and the judge are sick to death of her. They though have to carefully document a record against appeal since she is pro se.

Almost caught up. They are tying her in a lot more now with Hermasillo. Searches, being at the storage unit and so, guessing this will continue he way it looks. She is SO tied in, they have SO much, did even before this and it's just getting more and more clear. Exceptional case being presented imo despite Lori's attempts to derail it.

She chose not to question Hermasillo. Unreal. I think he's way too strong for her, he knows his stuff, and they have a LOT against he. She's a COWARD.

Linda was disappointed, most were, I am but Ray is such a STRONG witness and I don't doubt he was waiting to put her in her place. He was part of the kids, part of a ton of things. He'd put her in her place easily and nothing she could have done with him would have helped her but overall, she's chicken imo. And they did everything great so nothing much she could try to pull apart, well Ray did, etc.,

Most of the other big stuff came out then today, I had no idea. One more witness for P tomorrow, Nick Balance, not sure of spelling. He's a tech, digital data analyst. Treena says they will be done in the morning after him. Lori is going to have to have witnesses there by noon. Judge intends to go to closings then tomorrow afternoon IF Lori puts on no witnesses. We could be in verdict watch very soon.

I doubt again Lori has any witnesses. Of course she could cross Balance and try to take up the day or pull some other stunt. Otherwise her days out of her cell are about over. I suspect she may well try to delay somehow. She is to be ready and both have their closings ready too.

I have to believe Hermasillo was disappointed on some level. He's too strong to ever worry about it, he likely wanted her to try it though imo I can't wait until he is likely asked after trial.

There's so much against her and that ties her in and today is the day it will come together the most so far for the jury and then Treena will tie it up well.

So I'd say a day or two if Lori tries to draw it out but looking like tomorrow.

She is so powerless, all she could do with Ray was smirk and say no questions. She seriously is chicken with strong people. She did basically the same with Kay in the last trial. We all awaited that too.

She is such a has been. Hope she is realizing that lol.

I guess she may have tried not to attend yesterday so I had that wrong too perhaps. It isn't know for sure this time what happened though, not shared but I did hear it said judge said bring her by force or whatever means necessary. He's done with her games. IF that's right because this time nothing was shown of such like other times.

I have to end with some snark. Most give it to her imo and I think it's the sheer disgust all she's done.

He hair looked particularly bad yesterday. Linda is the queen of snark against Lori and it's always fun, channel and viewers are great. She calls that look of Lori's her shitzu look. Lol. It is so stupid and baby doll or some such and when she pulls her hair like that with that stupid top pony tail, it makes all the brassy blonde look like a top thing she clips on imo. We can see it often but one could really see yesterday all of her mousy brown hair that would cover her head if she just quit with the bad dye attempts. There's not a thing wrong with brown at all but for her there is. She can't get over the need to be blonde at all costs. She tries to cover as much as she can and it's so shallow. Maybe if she got herself a good haircut, let it go natural and went in there and acted like some outdated teeny bopper, she might do better with juries. Doubtful, but the way she works, she has no chance against hard evidence.

She's evil but she's stupid and a juvenile. She is only strong trying to control weak people, strong people scare her imo. And instantly go on the dark chart. It was so obvious she was scared to question Hermasillo and knew she'd get nowhere and so she used the only thing she had, acted like she just did not care enough to bother. What a joke. He was a THORN in their sides. And was ONTO them.

Anyhow, the hair is getting so old. I hate her jackets. It isn't over yet but it's close. Thank God.

Okay, this says it was the day before yesterday that Lori tried the not coming to court thing again when first sidebar happened in morning and he issued an order to bring her by force if necessary. LOL I bet she hates him. He has given her EVERY chance. I've taken in too much before more comes so that's it for me for now. Yesterday was a big day of it all coming together with a ton more evidence. Nate's recap.

I watched it. The white noise sound explained what I could not understand--which is when they use the headphones to do a sidebar. I didn't see how Lori or any could talk to each other from their seats to the judge without someone overhearing them on headphones, talking into them. I guess it must block the white noise for them and whatever they say no chance can be heard.

Yeah, he recapped it pretty well as always. Yesterday was not overly remarkable. She did or something did delay the one LE witness that she kept trying to hint was friendly with Brandon earlier on and when she crossed him (he will be back today if I recall) finally, she got a bit of attitude going but he took it well and stood it without much reaction. She was pointing out a lot of things they did NOT do. And so on.

Treena is not holding back objections nearly as much in this trial as in the one for Charles.

I'm so sick of Lori and yet in the same breath as she is sickening, watching her like whine when she caused what he whined about is interesting. We've really never seen her actually speaking much until these trials. It makes me feel sorrier than ever for her victims and the families and leaves me where I can't help but wonder how her own family never saw this is how she works and ticks.

She disrupts the entire schedule and then whines she doesn't know who the next witness is so can't prepare and Treena has to reschedule everyone.

GO AWAY LORI DUMBBELL.
I think Nate or Justin also at one point explained how they had to rearrange so that all the out of town witnesses appeared yesterday, then they could bring back the local witness to finish their testimony. It cannot be easy.

Court starts later today at 10.15 a.m. and P has their last witness, Nick Balance. This will be about 8 or 9pm for me so i may not get to follow everything today.

(I see Gbear already posted but i stopped checking before end of court yesterday as it was late for me, so still catching up here)

So Lori can have at it now after this last P witness.

I agree about her hair and thought exactly the same. It does look like a false topknot hanging down that she has put on LOL.

This is the full testimony of Nick Ballance, FBI CAST agent from Chad's trial so it starts about 40 seconds in and is 52 mins long. I will watch this today as I may not be able to watch his Lori testimony till tomorrow.

This testimony was regarding all the phone interactions around the two dates of October 9th and 17th. ie the attempted shooting of Tammy Daybell and the death of Tammy Daybell. I am anticipating similar from this witness relating to the attempted shooting of Brandon on the 2nd October.

CAST = Cellular Analysis Survey Team.

Yeah she is something else. She causes all this stuff and then whines about how the schedule and not knowing is affecting her. All sorts of juvenile behavior and hypocrisy. Ray Hermasillo has been there more than two days waiting. Not sure why, I guess maybe the P wanted people on deck. Lori put a LOT of people out, jurors too. I guess it's all she has left for desperate control over others, the dumb teenybopper acting old lady. The judge has shown more than enough patience on the record and still does at times but I'm glad he is flat out calling her out at times.

Both trials, this one and Read should be ending today or tomorrow.

Sigh. I wonder if they can take her pencil away once convicted.

Didn't know she was hitting the female judge now. She has been given so many opportunities it isn't even funny, more than most thought she should get.

Personally in two trials now I've become convinced she can't stand any authority figure. Yet she also has shown her "yellow" side like when she wouldn't question Hermasillo or anyone who has her number SO WELL and is confident. She hates Treena, that's obvious, hates the judges and will cause what trouble she can. She's quite the case. Hermasillo is too strong for her knows basically ALL. The judge and Treena are strong too but she tries to sabotage in other ways. She doesn't have to do it in quit the same way as she would with Hermasillo imo.

I’m behind on this trial. I got to see what I mostly wanted to see, which was Brandon testifying. It’s a busy week and I don’t know if I’ll get caught up or not. It used to be I had to watch all of it, but I guess I’m done. Where’s that key? I’m ready to lock her away.
