
Child with autism found safe after massive search in Kershaw County
The sheriff has confirmed that a missing child in Kershaw County has been found and is OK.
Volunteers requested: Kershaw County deputies search for child with autism
The Kershaw County Sheriff's Office is asking for volunteer help finding a missing child with autism.According to a statement from the sheriff's office, 6-year-old Jonathan Mallard is autistic and nonverbal. Mallard has brown hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing a light blue shirt, dark green shorts, and white tennis shoes and was in a wooded area in the 800 block of Barfield Road near Elgin. Investigators said this is close to Sessions Road.
Mallard is said to have gone missing around 2:50 p.m. and the search radius is extending as investigators estimate the child could travel up to two to three miles per hour from where he was last seen.
Investigators warned searchers that Mallard may not respond to adults and, if he hears an adult shouting his name, they believe he may walk or run away from them.
K-9 units and a helicopter are in the area assisting in the search for Mallard. Anyone who wishes to assist in the search can meet at the search command post located in a field in the 750 to 800 block of Barfield Road. Those who plan to help should bring flashlights and, if available, off-road vehicles.

Last seen wearing light blue shirt, dark green shorts, and white tennis shoes. He was last seen in the wooded area behind 846 Barfield Rd in Elgin close to the intersection of Sessions Rd. He will not respond to adults, if he hears an adult hollering his name he will probably walk away from the adult.
Search teams with K9s and helicopter will be in the area.
