The Federal Bureau of Investigation is now involved in the ongoing search for a missing/endangered 11-year-old Colorado Springs boy who went missing Monday afternoon, and the task force investigating his disappearance is organizing a team of volunteers to start searching for him.

Gannon Stauch was believed to be a runaway after he left his home southeast of Colorado Springs between 3:15 and 4 p.m. on Monday. But as the week progressed, his disappearance was upgraded to a missing/endangered person case.

His stepmother said he left his home on foot to play at a friend’s house down the street on Monday afternoon, according to the sheriff’s office. Deputies and major crimes detectives had taken “extraordinary steps” to locate the boy, the sheriff’s office said. They were actively searching for evidence and taking witness statements, a sheriff’s office news release issued earlier this week read.

“He’s very young, it’s dark and cold outside and we want to bring Gannon to safety,” the sheriff’s said in a Facebook post earlier this week.

On Thursday afternoon, the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office and other task force members, as well as Stauch’s parents, hosted a news conference to update the community on his disappearance, discuss the steps being taken in the investigation, and to notify people in the area that they are organizing volunteers to begin a community search effort in coming days.

El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Lt. Mitch Mahalko said the sheriff’s office received the investigation on Tuesday afternoon and started doing interviews and collecting video surveillance and talking to neighbors, working to collect new leads.

He said that the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children and FBI got involved after the case was upgraded to a missing/endangered child case. The FBI’s team specializes in search and rescue and “will be a good partner” in the investigation, Mahalko said.

He said the investigation was active and that authorities were conducting interviews with witnesses and collecting evidence – exhausting every lead they receive.

Mahalko said investigators were looking at “persons of interest” in the case as people who might be able to give them additional information on Stauch’s whereabouts.

He declined to say where authorities had been searching but confirmed that investigators had been in contact with some trash companies in El Paso County and in the Lorson Ranch area.

Kirby stressed that people with tips should report them to their tip line – 719-520-6666 – and not on social media because any tips sent to the sheriff’s office on social media will not be considered.

Gannon Stauch: Lawyers for alleged killer stepmother push for jail release, claim ‘ DNA results are still outstanding’ [Court Docs]

The attorneys for a woman accused of killing 11-year-old Colorado boy, Gannon Stauch, say they don’t have video access visitation, which is hindering effective counsel. They’re now pushing for her release amid COVID-19 concerns.

According to documents filed at the El Paso County Court, the El Paso County jail denied murder suspect Letecia Stauch access to a video visit from her attorney in early May. The incident stemmed from an apparent new policy implemented by the Colorado Justice System that requires attorneys to physically come to the jail to visit certain inmates.

Stauch’s lawyer, public defender Kathryn Strobel, explained that the COVID-19 pandemic, which has affected numerous inmates in Colorado, has made it unsafe for attorneys to travel to the jail and meet with clients in person.

The motion added that denying visitations to an inmate awaiting trial is a violation of the “U.S Constitution, 6th Amendment Right to Counsel and the Due Process Clauses of both the state and federal constitutions.”

A day shift commander at the jail told Strobel, according to court documents, that it was “difficult and time-consuming” to bring Stauch to video visits, given her security status at the jail.

The defense team argued that not only were they denied video access to Stauch, but they still have not received evidence that will help them provide an adequate defense, such as Gannon’s autopsy report and outstanding DNA results on evidence items.

“Among other missing pieces of discovery, DNA results are still outstanding on a number of key pieces of evidence, and [REDACTED] have not been disclosed to the defense.”

Stauch’s next hearing is scheduled for June 5. However, the defense team requested an emergency hearing on the current motion, should the court deny the request.

They are clearly alluding to the Vallow case imo. And I am the first to say that on occasion there is someone wrongly railroaded but I believe far more that most LE and county justice systems and DA's do not make arrests nor without a fair amount of evidence and there certainly seems to already be plenty in this case. Yet the rights of the defendant and chance of appeals sometimes are paramount or at minimum it delays things for years which is considered to the benefit of the accused. Now Covid they are using. I don't know, her security status at the jail and time to bring her to video visits but it is not anyone's fault imo. I know people that work jobs that are non-essential with Covid and they have had no choice. I guess her attorneys can work and go to the jail as well and take precautions, not probably privately paid but public defenders so they are not making big bucks for every hour to travel, etc.? Not saying I know all of the facts, maybe they have good cause but just the way it strikes me at the moment upon reading this. I think our court systems already backed up are going to be so much more so due to Covid than they already were...

🙄

...Just piling up more charges.

This woman smh. Can't say this is surprising either. Her stupidity is though. Well not any longer maybe it isn't.

I wonder which family member was dumb enough to put $75,000 in an account for her and who "has" them covered once they are out... IF true of course, she is such a chronic liar it is hard to say.

How did she have this much interaction?

Letters partly in code? Uhm, just guessing if another inmate can figure out the code then other people likely can as well no...?

She and Patrick Frazee would sure make a pair.

Poor Gannon. Let's get on with justice for him.

Another article about her escape plan. I know she is just in county but perhaps it is time they put her somewhere she cannot fit through a window? Does anyone think for one minute if she escaped she would just disappear and perpetrate no other crime ever? I don't. What was she going to do then? Run through the sheriff's department lawn in an orange suit to a ride waiting for her? I am serious. Was there more planned out here? Maybe some others near her need a very close look. Not that this woman is the best planner but she did manage to move Gannon's body while under suspicion, used different vehicles, rental vehicles, etc. This is allegedly a second escape effort at minimum, once on her way back from SC. She is in county right? Or do I have that wrong?

IIRC, she tried to jump out of the van carrying her by assaulting a cop.

From the article:

The defense has now asked for a competency evaluation. Letecia is expected to be moved to a state hospital within a week.

The prosecution says Gannon's jaw bone was sent from Florida this week to help identify his body. His identity had to be confirmed with dental records because of the state of his body when he was located in Florida.

Well, all I can say is I hope they have SECURITY and excellent SECURITY at this hospital, as well as to and fro. Is she a nut job? Yes. Is she competent to stand trial, plot, plan and know right from wrong? YES. Jmo of course.

Just yesterday I was listening to a podcast where the podcaster just in passing mentioned Gannon being dismembered. I had never heard that before, did not want to hear it and so forth. Hearing though now about this jaw bone makes me feel it may be something the podcaster knew.

Finally, so someone plots and plans an escape and then gets a mental competency test? Not sure about that one, at least if that is the reason for it...

I just hope she doesn't find a way to worm her way out of this, I want a trial, that's the only way Gannon's family can get at least some justice for him. Also, in no way is she insane with all that planning and conning she was capable of to try to mislead the investigators. There's not even a grain of remorse from her side...🤬

I entirely agree. Most states, it not all (it is close to all I believe?), the standard is knowing right from wrong and when you hide or move a body just for one thing, you are hiding something because you did wrong and you KNOW it. She has so many instances of that, just one example. Yes, IF true (she could have been lying) who put $75,000 in an account she could access? A family member? IF true, who was going to hide them as MIA and she had it covered when they escaped? Of course knowing Tee's previous actions that we know of and lies and changing stores, this was a falsehood too.

It makes me think of Lori Vallow's family. Mom, sister and niece all she would never, she loves her children, etc., etc., etc. I CAN understand a parent sticking up for a child, I have done it, most parents have, to a POINT. But come on, when there is so much to show what they did and that they did wrong, you encourage them to do the right thing. This isn't a traffic ticket! It is the murder of a child! You certainly do not involve yourself and help or enable at that point, or involve yourself and abet as may be the case here. Again, if anything Tecia told the other prisoner is true... Jmo.

She ain't insane. Somebody told me once something years ago that stuck with me. We were talking about an ex of someone who cheated, game played, played families and people, etc. and I said but you know what I can't figure out is she is NOT dumb (Tecia may be hard to say but still this was a remark that stayed with me and still does) and the friend said she isn't dumb but she uses her smarts for evil and not good and she doesn't get that AND is used to people believing her... Or something like that....

I think of it in this case, not sure why? Maybe her ways worked up until now and no one called her on it? Al fell for it perhaps? Not judging just apparently...

Linda, as usual, from It's a Crime, has a short ten minute podcast covering Letecia's recent planned escape which covers a lot in that short time including that per T anyhow, it was grandpa (gpa) that put money in an account for her and other things in the notes.

Thanks for sharing this, I absolutely agree with Linda that this are not the actions of an innocent person. She is just helping the prosecution, so just keep on riding your broomstick, Letecia !

You bet. She gets just a hair sassier in each podcast lately. It's fun to see it. The broomstick remark right off of the bat without actually calling her a witch had me in stitches and she did not even break stride or crack a big smile herself... In her very first days I found her just a bit dull but not any longer, she gets more at home the longer she does this. One of her last ones on another case she referred to someone being too busy boinking. LOL. However, she is all fact and doesn't get into the gossip to speak of. She is my top one I go to these days...
