FBI now involved in ongoing search for missing 11-year-old Colorado Springs boy

The Federal Bureau of Investigation is now involved in the ongoing search for a missing/endangered 11-year-old Colorado Springs boy who went missing Monday afternoon, and the task force investigating his disappearance is organizing a team of volunteers to start searching for him.

Gannon Stauch was believed to be a runaway after he left his home southeast of Colorado Springs between 3:15 and 4 p.m. on Monday. But as the week progressed, his disappearance was upgraded to a missing/endangered person case.

His stepmother said he left his home on foot to play at a friend’s house down the street on Monday afternoon, according to the sheriff’s office. Deputies and major crimes detectives had taken “extraordinary steps” to locate the boy, the sheriff’s office said. They were actively searching for evidence and taking witness statements, a sheriff’s office news release issued earlier this week read.

“He’s very young, it’s dark and cold outside and we want to bring Gannon to safety,” the sheriff’s said in a Facebook post earlier this week.

On Thursday afternoon, the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office and other task force members, as well as Stauch’s parents, hosted a news conference to update the community on his disappearance, discuss the steps being taken in the investigation, and to notify people in the area that they are organizing volunteers to begin a community search effort in coming days.

El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Lt. Mitch Mahalko said the sheriff’s office received the investigation on Tuesday afternoon and started doing interviews and collecting video surveillance and talking to neighbors, working to collect new leads.

He said that the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children and FBI got involved after the case was upgraded to a missing/endangered child case. The FBI’s team specializes in search and rescue and “will be a good partner” in the investigation, Mahalko said.

He said the investigation was active and that authorities were conducting interviews with witnesses and collecting evidence – exhausting every lead they receive.

Mahalko said investigators were looking at “persons of interest” in the case as people who might be able to give them additional information on Stauch’s whereabouts.

He declined to say where authorities had been searching but confirmed that investigators had been in contact with some trash companies in El Paso County and in the Lorson Ranch area.

Kirby stressed that people with tips should report them to their tip line – 719-520-6666 – and not on social media because any tips sent to the sheriff’s office on social media will not be considered.

Hi Oot! As far as Jodi Arias, I know you are busy but court TV, State of WI versus Ezra McCandless, Arias all of the way. Dunn County, Wisconsin, recent case and trial and I never even heard about it being from near the AREA, also touches into Eau Claire, WI but the crime occurred in Dunn County. Free online Court TV is, don't need TV. The entire trial is televised. I watched it without knowing the outcome.

Teebag is a bag. But yes, I agree Landen has always been the emotional one vowing for justice and God's justice. Al hangs his head. I don't know what but I do know he looks like someone who will guilt himself the rest of his life. I have heard rumors on various sites and I don't do many sites but regardless, TEEBAG killed Gannon, not Al or Landen.

I think there are things with her we will find out or maybe never find out that we will wish we never heard as far as how she treated Gannon. AND Laina. I don't know why it is but people tend, not all, to forgive a man. If this was reversed, they would be blaming the mother so badly (some people) for leaving a child with a stepdad or bf. I saw it many times at JT.
I so agree. I spotted a look of Al’s shame from the getgo. I knew something bad was coming.

Food for thought is that the arrest also came out before LE officially told the public as did Tecia's attempt at escape and assaulting an officer in Kansas. I don't think this same paralegal likely had this info, although she may be part of a group...? I don't want the defense to have any ammo but one has to admit there are leaks and this woman does not explain them all. More involved imo.

ETA: Those things could though be a strategic release by LE, I don't know. Just saying the affidavit was not the first mention of questions of how info was known.

Video was very good. But she isn’t one I would watch due to her language. No need for it.

I didn't watch that one but I did watch the Plundr one and I about gagged. All it was was telling people to do the superchat with T at JT and to make an account at JT and promoting JT and saying how good T was to be so virtuous and apologize (paraphrasing). I watched Plundr a few times a few months ago but probably won't again. The voice strikes me like a robot or something lol. Now with a video full of plugs for WS was more than I could take. I prefer Linda with It's a Crime. :D

Plundr is dead-pan, boring, IMO. Yes she does sound like a computer. LOL.

Critical Kay, never heard of before, was ok. She hates MG, let me tell you! Hates him more than she hates WS. But anyway, her language is awful. I watched the video and she made very good points. However, I won’t watch her again because she is vulgar.
My favorite is Linda, It’s a Crime. I have watched her awhile. Scott Reisch is very good but he is a little dry and legal, etc. IMO. Of course he is an attorney so that is to be expected.

Yes we know better. :sidefive:

Well hating MG and JT I guess she can't be all bad lol. She also hates DWAP and from what I have been told hates most other podcasters really. I haven't watched her just due to what I have read about her from others that have left her. To be fair though, I have not watched her to know.

Reisch is a bit dry but I like to hear his perspective on the cases and his podcasts are never too long and are edited nicely.

Well. If I had known all that I likely would not have watched the video. It’s funny how everyone wants to be a reality star on YouTube. But people who run down all the others, nah. I barely have time in my day anyway.

ETA: Skitt, this is not being critical of you for posting Kay’s video. I appreciate the fact that she got the word out there. And I appreciate you for letting us know. She just doesn’t speak without the vulgarity and it’s not My way of speaking. I cannot tolerate that from anyone.:nono:

From what I gather, she is one of them that if you do not agree with her opinion, you are gone or in trouble. Also called quite a potty mouth and bossy. And raises he*k for other podcasters or sends trolls lol. But AGAIN, I need to specify this is what I have read and heard, not based on personal experience. She just doesn't sound like one I would care for... And as you say, it all takes time, so I try to center on a few and right now it is Linda and Scott Reisch, and I do still check DWAP but I go in streaks of when I have time for podcasts as well. What I like about Linda and Reisch on top of what we all like, is their podcasts are clean, edited and much packed into not too LONG of a podcast.

Urghh, I know, The Sun, but no words for this woman.

ETA: moo, she's batsh*t crazy 😕

As you say it is the Sun and if there was an interview, it is odd this is the only statement they use of hers BUT I don't find it hard to believe. Is it ALWAYS about her? I guess we should know that by now. As for PTSD I am sure soldiers who suffer it are going to love her remark (NOT).

Gannon Stauch's Stepmother Claims A Witness Will Help Prove Her Innocence During Jail Call

Letecia Stauch, who is accused of murdering her 11-year-old stepson, said she may have post-traumatic stress disorder from the tragedy of the past few months.

BY GINA TRON

The stepmother of 11-year-old Colorado boy Gannon Stauch has claimed through a phone call made behind bars that she is innocent and hinted a witness may help her prove that.

Letecia Stauch, 36, was chargedin March with first-degree murder of a child under 12 by a person of trust, child abuse resulting in death, tampering with a deceased body, and tampering with evidence in connection with her stepson’s death. Letecia was the last person to see Gannon when he vanished in El Paso County in January. The remains of a boy, which have since been tentatively identified as Gannon, were discovered by a Florida bridge in March by a road crew, a spokesperson at the Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office previously told Oxygen.com.

In a Wednesday phone call with CrimeOnline, Letecia claimed she is innocent of the charges filed against her. She alleged that a witness has “officially went on record” with her defense. However, citing the ongoing investigation, she said she could not disclose the details.

She also pondered in that phone call that she may be suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder due to the dramatic and tragic events that have unfolded over the past few months.

“I’m not trying to knock anyone that’s been in war or anything like that, but people handle situations differently,” Letecia told CrimeOnline. “You have plenty of time to sit in here and actually like, breathe and be able to like process it because I hadn’t even went through the emotions of all of it yet, you know? And the emotions, you know, of being this bad person and all that.”

Investigators believe that Letecia killed Gannon with a knife or another sharp instrument in his bedroom the day he vanished, according to an arrest reportwhich was leaked to 9 News in Denver. A paralegal was charged with official misconduct and put on administrative leave as a result of that leaking, the Denver Post reported last week.

The charging document also claims that the stepmother made “many lies” during the investigation. While Letecia initially told 911 and media outlets that Gannon vanished en route to a friend’s, the leaked document claims that she changed her story at some point. She allegedly claimed she was held at gunpoint and raped by a man who then went on to kidnap Gannon.

After allegedly killing Gannon, investigators believe Letecia took his body to the garage and loaded him into the back of her car where his body remained during the initial search of the house. Letecia allegedly enlisted her 17-year-old daughter to help cover up the murder by purchasing carpet cleaner, trash bags and other cleaning supplies. Letecia allegedly dumped Gannon's body off Highway 105 in Colorado’s Douglas County before his body was later moved to Florida.

Letecia was arrested in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina — where she is originally from — in March before she was extradited back to El Paso County. Letecia’s public defenders, Kathryn Strobel and Kim Chalmers, both of whom work at the Office of the Colorado State Public Defender, are not available for comment per office policy.
