The Federal Bureau of Investigation is now involved in the ongoing search for a missing/endangered 11-year-old Colorado Springs boy who went missing Monday afternoon, and the task force investigating his disappearance is organizing a team of volunteers to start searching for him.

Gannon Stauch was believed to be a runaway after he left his home southeast of Colorado Springs between 3:15 and 4 p.m. on Monday. But as the week progressed, his disappearance was upgraded to a missing/endangered person case.

His stepmother said he left his home on foot to play at a friend’s house down the street on Monday afternoon, according to the sheriff’s office. Deputies and major crimes detectives had taken “extraordinary steps” to locate the boy, the sheriff’s office said. They were actively searching for evidence and taking witness statements, a sheriff’s office news release issued earlier this week read.

“He’s very young, it’s dark and cold outside and we want to bring Gannon to safety,” the sheriff’s said in a Facebook post earlier this week.

On Thursday afternoon, the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office and other task force members, as well as Stauch’s parents, hosted a news conference to update the community on his disappearance, discuss the steps being taken in the investigation, and to notify people in the area that they are organizing volunteers to begin a community search effort in coming days.

El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Lt. Mitch Mahalko said the sheriff’s office received the investigation on Tuesday afternoon and started doing interviews and collecting video surveillance and talking to neighbors, working to collect new leads.

He said that the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children and FBI got involved after the case was upgraded to a missing/endangered child case. The FBI’s team specializes in search and rescue and “will be a good partner” in the investigation, Mahalko said.

He said the investigation was active and that authorities were conducting interviews with witnesses and collecting evidence – exhausting every lead they receive.

Mahalko said investigators were looking at “persons of interest” in the case as people who might be able to give them additional information on Stauch’s whereabouts.

He declined to say where authorities had been searching but confirmed that investigators had been in contact with some trash companies in El Paso County and in the Lorson Ranch area.

Kirby stressed that people with tips should report them to their tip line – 719-520-6666 – and not on social media because any tips sent to the sheriff’s office on social media will not be considered.

Attorneys representing Letecia Stauch revealed Tuesday that their psychiatrist concluded in her report that Stauch was insane and “in a psychotic state” at the time of her stepson Gannon’s murder.

Court records show that the report was filed to the court on Thursday after significant complaints from 4th Judicial District Attorney Michael Allen about not receiving the report at the pre-trial readiness conference earlier this month.

Allen said at Stauch’s pre-trial conference that if the report was not received before trial, the prosecution could move to exclude Dr. Lewis from testifying.

Allen said not having the report bordered on "bad faith" from the defense's expert.

"This is a disrespect to court deadlines," Allen said at the pre-trial readiness conference. "I've never seen anything like this."

The frustration from Allen was shared by Judge Gregory Werner, who openly questioned how 13 months after Stauch pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity to all charges — and seven months since Stauch's first sanity report was filed with the court — that the defense's report had yet to be filed.

On the first day of the trial on Monday, the court spent seven hours trimming a group of 75 potential jurors to 20; they will return to court on April 3 for the final portion of jury selection.

This is absolute b.s. to have this report dropped on prosecution at the 11th hour before trial. Of course I also don't buy it. But this puts the judge and prosecution in a spot where when entirely ready for a huge trial to proceed that the family has waited too long for, etc. and costs and prep out the window if asking to delay. Like Allen said, this doctor's testimony should be EXCLUDED on that basis. And that probably could be done I imagine. Then it will be probably appealed as she was insane and her doctor couldn't testify to say so!!! Not sure of that but just saying in our system it wouldn't surprise me if that is what happened.

Hopefully this defense "expert" is a quack and if he does testify the state expert will put him and his belief in his place. We shouldn't be surprised because they have Letecia so dead to rights with evidence she did this that it is about the only defense left to them. And then to hang herself further she said so many things that were untrue online and to LE as well, her case is solid imo so what else can they do except play this insanity chip?

If the system worked the right way, this would cook their goose meaning since it was NOT filed in a longggg period of time so the prosecution had it, that should close the door on it and this doctor both in trial and appeals on it. Does it work that way or would it? I have no idea but that's the way it should work.

Defense experts often have a cover of being qualified and "some" history of testifying, etc. and for instance are a psych doctor, pathologist, etc. but often with just a bit of research one will find they aren't quality and aren't honest, etc. Hopefully it is blown out of the water if it is allowed in.

How is this gonna fly when she hid his body in another state? She’s not insane enough.
They would probably say she was in this "fugue" state or whatever during the murder and when she came out of it she panicked and wondered "oh my what did I do", "oh my did I do this, I can't remember", and "oh my what do I do now" so she hid the body, etc. What it does is get her off the murder charges and then they only have those more minor charges of covering up a crime, etc....

That's a guess on my part...

OR if they use it for all it will be she was like a sleepwalker driving to dispose of him how many states away, in a zone, fugue, mental break, whatever one wants to call it...

The no cameras in the courtrooms in these cases is becoming really tiresome too. Idaho and Colorado both very big on it as they are on sealed records and such as well.

So she is aware enough to know that she was in a "psychotic state” at the time of his death? So is this her way of admitting she killed him but not having to take the brunt of the punishment?

It probably took them this long to find somebody to finally sign off on her being "psychotic" at the very time of his death.

Good point. Yeah, interesting isn't it. Which came first the chicken or the egg? Which came first, she was in a pyschotic state or later she realized she was in a psychotic state.... Good grief.

Maybe they had to get the pay off and it took this long because this expert supposedly had a year if not two that his report should have been filed with the court. Saw it somewhere, either in an article here or somewhere trustworthy.

So he isn't someone they just found, although they have may just now have convinced him to say it in a report...

Well some of this is video or live or some such. Scott had it. I can tell you right now, drag your cursor to three hours and 35 minutes in, before that it is mostly dead space, nothing happening. At that point people start coming back in and it is 3:40 before they talk much at all. I mean that many hours into this video.

Early on starts opening with recording of Tee and Gannon where she is talking of having to sell couch etc. due to burns. She is talking with him and at a point he said all he is worried about is his burns... I don't think he means the carpet burns but HIS burns. Some think this recording was accidental by Letecia, I think it was an effort to cover maybe..

She attacked him intentionally, mercilessly, viciously and deliberately in his bedroom. 18 stab wounds to his chest, his back, his head and his arms and his hands. He was fighting for his life and those were defensive wounds (arms and hands). Next came a crushing blow so hard it fractured his skull like an eggshell. These are prosecutor's words. I almost can't do this it brings thoughts I can't bear from ours... Wow. I am sharing as I am listening.

BUT that wasn't enough for the defendant... She retrieved a 9 mm hand gun and fired it at him three times. 2 bullets struck the pillow near him, third bullet entered jaw, exited head, fractured mandible, his vertebrae, hitting his spinal cord and lodged in back of his head and recovered at autopsy.

Oh my Lord, I don't know if I can do this.

This is just minutes in. A powerful opening statement barely begun....

What a MONSTER.

This may be the one to watch for those that have time. This is on video, at least this part... Clear sound, powerful opening so far... Details I don't think we knew. We knew some...

Oh he also started out with a bit about mental incompetency defense etc. and her knowing right from wrong etc...
