Police release artist's rendering of baby found dead in Manchester pond; public funeral planned

A public funeral will be held next week for the still-unidentified baby girl found dead at Pine Island Park.

The infant was found in the water on March 27. Investigators believe she was placed in the water sometime between March 25 and March 27.

Police are still trying to figure out who she is and how she died. They have been unable to locate the girl's mother.

"Her brief life may have been tragic, but at least she's been laid to rest in a respectful way and with dignity," said police Chief Peter Marr.

At some point during this time frame, police say they believe someone placed a baby in Pine Island Pond, which is inside Pine Island Park in Manchester.

At around 4 p.m., a baby is found floating in Pine Island Pond after police investigated reports of an object seen floating in the water.

Witness Aiden Fournier tells WMUR he was kayaking on Pine Island Pond when police suddenly told him he couldn't be there. When he came back to shore, he found a woman who

claimed she found the baby as she was walking around with her family.

On the day of the discovery, police did not release much information. Before police cleared the scene around 7:30 p.m., News 9 saw a hearse that took away a stretcher.

Investigators announce that the death of the baby, an infant girl, is being treated as suspicious. The girl's identity is unknown.

Senior Assistant Attorney General Scott Chase says an autopsy supported evidence suggesting this may have been a suspicious death. Chase says details of the autopsy would not be released publicly at this time.

Manchester Police Chief Peter Marr says that even though the infant's body was found in Manchester, it doesn’t mean the mother is from the area. He says police are also concerned about the mother's condition, which is unknown at this time.

At a news conference, police narrow the estimated timeline it's believed that someone placed the unidentified baby in the pond. The timeline is narrowed to a three-day window, from March 25 to 27, 2025.

Police ask members of the public to send investigators any photos and videos taken from Pine Island Park or Pine Island Pond during that time frame. Police ask for tips about anyone who was pregnant in late March, is no longer pregnant and does not have a newborn baby with them.

Earlier in the day, the New Hampshire State Police K-9 Unit returned to Pine Island Park to help search the area. Police say they asked for the K-9 Unit's help, but they did not share any details on what prompted that request.
