The photographs were found last fall when Horace Van Vaultz was arrested, the first case brought by the LA County District Attorney’s Office that relied, in part, on searches of genealogical DNA databases in order to identify an alleged killer. The charges included the 1986 murder of Mary Duggan, whose body was found in the trunk of her own car parked near the 5 Freeway in Burbank. As Lake Mead continues to shrink, human remains have been discovered for the fourth time since May. National Park Service rangers received a call reporting human skeletal remains on Saturday morning at Swim Beach in the Lake Mead National Recreation Area, according to a National Park Service press release. The hiker found the skull on Sunday, Feb. 16, in the Anthony Wayne Recreation Area of the park said New York State Police Trooper Steven Nevel. The recreation area is a wooded valley with playing fields and hiking trails in the park which is located in Rockland and Orange counties. In April 2019, the scattered skeletal remains of a woman were found in a wooded area on Mohegan Sun casino land in Uncasville, New London County, Connecticut. Jane Doe was discovered around 9 a.m. on April 11th, 2019 by public works workers. There is dispute on where Doe was found, however, as some news sources place her discovery as being several miles away from Mohegan Sun while others, such as NAMUS, place her as being found within several hundred feet of one of the casino's parking lots.
