ANNA KEPNER: Teen found dead on Carnival cruise ship *ARREST!* (9 Viewers)

Maybe the 18 year old sibling was supposed to be watching the younger ones? I will wait till further info comes out as it is pretty confusing at present.
They knew she went back to her room alone from not feeling well though. They knew she wasn't supervising them that way IF that was what was to happen. Besides, those are their kids, not hers.

The medical examiner has released their report:

Anna Kepner, a teenager who was found dead on a Carnival Horizon cruise ship this month, died by asphyxiation resulting from a bar hold -- an arm across the neck -- a source briefed on the investigation told ABC News on Friday.

Investigators also found two bruises on the side of her neck, the source said.

ETA: According to the source, the preliminary information indicates there were no signs of sexual assault and there did not appear to be drugs or alcohol in Kepner's system. Autopsy and toxicology reports that could confirm those details have not been completed.
So his obsession with her seemed more hate filled than sex filled. At that time, anyway.

Given the autopsy information, this information from Anna's ex-bf might have some truth to it:

THE stepbrother of Anna Kepner allegedly went into a violent fit the night before her death, throwing chairs and screaming at the cheerleader inside their shared cabin on the Carnival Cruise Line ship.
The shocking claims were made by Kepner‘s ex-boyfriend, Joshua Tew, who alleged the 18-year-old teen was “uncomfortable” being at home because of her stepbrother, 16.

And the parents STILL had them stay in the same room! Both her dad and his mom thought this was a good idea???

All I can say is I hope both of these parents lose custody of their respective kids. They are not responsible parents at all. Too many red flags ignored. HUGE red flags. They HAD to know these two had issues being together and then they went and forced them to be cooped up together in one room without parental supervision in that room.

But, did she tell them she was afraid of him? I still am not sure about that part of the equation, though I believe that even without that happening, it was poor parenting on their part.

I'm surprised the bio-dad's attorney isn't filing an ex parte to get the other kid(s) away from their mother.

If it was that evident to others and IF he actually did that while on the trip, there is no way he acted normal when around her at home. No way.

I wonder if they mean sides of the neck rather than side. That would indicate him grabbing her by the neck at some point and then doing the arm across the neck later.

Cause is sadly no surprise.

I've seen the ex-boyfriend talking and he said he did not tell her parents about the stepbrother but did tell the FBI, so his dad may have that part wrong... I'm sure I heard him say he didn't. I think he also said he is 15 so pretty young.

So the brother heard an altercation or at least the stepbrother raging. And he was locked out of the room? Great supervision yet again if he couldn't even get in his own room. So he could hear the altercation but the parents didn't? So are the rooms even near each other or were the parents maybe out until late or something?

On another show, I saw a part of the hearing, I'd like to see it all but didn't have a chance to figure out where that would be and didn't catch it. I heard father's side claim there was drinking by the kids and the mother's side saying doesn't know what they were talking about, there was no drinking, etc. Again I'd like to see it all or at least that part. I may go back to the show I saw it on to find out which station the clip was from.

This article says there was video evidence he was not drinking?? They can't have video evidence of him every moment of the cruise nor of him in the room...

I'm betting the father's version is right and they let at least the two older kids drink on this trip.

Id say her custody is at big risk right now. There is clear evidence she did not make the best decisions for her kid in this case for sure.

I feel for Anna's brother. He is going to live with this and he probably wishes he hadn't left the room.

I think both of them were step brothers, no? I could be mistaken.

Also, the autopsy said they don't think she was drinking, but the tox report needs to verify.

this one has a clip of the hearing in it (but I saw more of it in another show) and has the ex-boyfriend talking to media. It's short but if you don't want to watch it all, go to just past 4:50 into it where these things start. First is the hearing, then a bit after is the kid.

No, the 14 year old was Anna's brother. About 99.9 percent sure. The stepmom has a 9 year old, a 16 year oldl (the one who did this) and an 18 yr. old.

In my book 16 yo and above are adults and shouldn't be sharing with non siblings of the opposite sex unless they are girlfriend/boyfriend. Presumably there was no girlfriend/boyfriend relationship there, but we don't really know do we?

Until more info comes out, including her COD, then I am waiting to see what LE and the MO say in the next few days.

Her COD came out today:

Her cause of death is out as kimster said.

While we can't know anything for sure, her ex-bf says she was scared of him, didnt' like him, often stayed at a friend's to stay away from him, etc.

16 is not an adult at least by law.

You know, I'm surprised these kids could be in a room. I had recently heard due to another case I think that most cruise lines have a rule that kids have to be in a room with someone that was at least 21 I thought I heard... So these parents may have broken a ship rule too... I'm not positive on Carnival's rules but I did hear that...

Were the parents in a connecting cabin? The rules are very clear on here.

Thanks for finding that. I am about worn out with searching for and watching things today, been a busy one in this one, and some others as well.

Clearly they were breaking the rules with the 14 year old. I doubt the rooms adjoined because they apparently had their own keys...

I guess they can't be arrested for breaking the ship rules but Carnival's arse is fine in this one, they hold no blame for a bit of it AND the rules were broken...

It's the parents through and through. And the 16 year old of course. To blame.

in many states she could have been charged with sexual assault on a minor. IF the parents had ANY inkling whatsoever that he either had a crush on her or hated her guts, makes what they did for arrangements even more astonishing. In no circumstance I can think of should any non bio related kids of those ages of the opposite sex share a room without responsible adult sharing that room with them.
