Delia Marie Young's last-known location was in the area of NW 142nd Avenue in Gainesville, deputies say. She was wearing blue pajamas with white stars.

Deputies have since arrested Marian G. Williams, 57, and Valerie Young, 52, in connection with the disappearance of the teenager.
Doesn't look good. :(

"Each woman has been charged with manslaughter, deprivation of medical care, and tampering with/destroying evidence. Additionally, Williams has been charged with child neglect while Young has been charged with aggravated child abuse."

Two women are behind bars in the Alachua County Jail for their role in the apparent death of 13-year-old Delia Young. She was reported missing on Saturday, May 15, but her legal guardian Marian Williams confessed to Alachua County Sheriff’s deputies on Wednesday that the little girl is dead, which ended a search lasting more than a week.

According to the relative, the 13-year-old suffered from mental health issues. She said Delia never bothered anyone.

“All we ever saw was that the little girl was quiet. She never barely talked,” explained Williams. “Everywhere Marian went, she went.”

Valerie Young reported her niece missing on May 16, claiming she vanished from her Gainesville home during the night. Williams told police on Wednesday that Delia Young was at their home when she saw Valeria Young beat the girl with an electrical cord, according to the news outlet.

Williams reportedly got her sister to stop beating Delia Young. Later that evening, Williams claimed she witnessed the girl walk in a manner that would suggest she was injured and asked if she needed to go to the hospital. While it is unclear what the girl said, Williams reportedly found her deceased in her room the following morning, The Sun reported.

The sisters are accused of not reporting Delia Young’s death and conspiring to hide her body. Police believe the pair stashed her body in a pink tote bag and left it at a Lacrosse home that Williams also owns. The Sun reported that only Valerie Young and Williams have keys to the home.

Police said that at some point before May 18, Williams, who was upset about her niece’s death, returned to the Lacrosse residence “and sat in the bedroom with the deceased child’s body.” Williams allegedly went back to the home on May 18 and could not find the girl’s body. Williams confessed to burning the tote bag used to transport the body, according to The Sun.

Deputies search area in Northern Alachua County for missing 13-year-old girl

Alachua County Sheriff’s deputies started another search Wednesday morning for Delia Young, the 13-year-old girl reported missing on Saturday, May 15.

Deputies say a tip and other evidence led them to search an area in Northern Alachua County near an abandoned hotel on County Road 236, just off I-75 Wednesday morning. They say the search is a recovery effort, as the child is presumed dead. However, deputies say they always hope to find someone alive until they find a body.

Human remains found in northwest Alachua County
Alachua County officials have located human remains in the northwest part of the county.

This comes as deputies searched the area of exit 404 of I-75 on Wednesday for 13-year-old Delia Young's body.

Officials say the remains have not been identified at this time.

"Detectives and forensics investigators will work diligently with the Medical Examiner's Office to make a positive identification and determine a cause and manner of death," wrote Lt. Kaley Behl, sheriff's office spokesperson, in a press release.

Medical Examiner will not release Delia Young’s autopsy due to the ongoing investigation

The District 8 Medical Examiner is not releasing the autopsy of 13-year-old Delia Young at this time.

Officials tell TV20 that due to an active investigation, her cause of death will not be shared until a later date.

Last week, Delia’s remains were found in a field north of the city of Alachua. Sheriff’s deputies arrested her guardian Marian Williams, and her aunt Valerie Young.

They are facing multiple charges including homicide and child neglect. On Tuesday, Young entered a written plea of not guilty.

That's how I've been feeling lately. Are these cases rising?
it sure the heck seems like it. You know, I think we all would have said a few years back that it just seems like more because of internet, SM, etc. so we hear of more missing, more death cases, etc. and things in other states that back when would have been unlikely but internet and SM has been around for some time now so I don't think that applies really any longer, been more coverage for awhile now, and this past year or two it seems like just a crazy amount more than normal. In my opinion anyhow.

EXCLUSIVE: ACPS employee details abuse 13-year-old Delia Young suffered and reports filed with DCF

An Alachua County School District employee said she reported multiple cases of abuse involving 13-year-old Delia Young to the Florida Department of Children and Family Services (DCF). The employee said the system failed Delia.

“I thought that why I did what I did was to be able to save kids like her from what happened to her” explained the school district employee who asked that her identity remain concealed.

She said over the course of four years she knows of at least eight allegations of abuse involving Delia that were reported to DCF. The employee said despite the abuse this young girl experienced her loving behavior never changed or diminished.

This employee explains report after report was filed with DCF documenting the horrific pain the child endured, including whispers of sexual abuse by previous guardians. She saw Delia with physical abuse marks and experienced trauma that impacted her ability to walk properly.

“There are many times where she would be limping and complaining of pains in her hip. There was a time that her hand was extremely swollen and she couldn’t use it to write, possibly broken. There were times when her whole back was bruised and scratched up.”

This employee believes with all of the reports filed the system failed Delia Young. TV20 reached out to the DCF to obtain reports filed on behalf of Delia Young but officials said they are limited in the information they can release and they are currently processing our request.

Would such be locatable or available? They are usually very buttoned up records/cases aren't they? This one may be different as she was missing and they were looking at prior history with CPS so a review is showing...?

Yes, I could access records IF they were available and have been able to since Janiya Thomas was murdered by her mother in 2015. Florida has very different statutes regarding public access and you just have to know where to look.
