Family members said they have still not given up hope of finding Desirea, and that they will continue to attend events like these to help keep word circulating that she is still missing.

New podcast shocks family of missing Liberty woman, raising big questions

It’s been more than four years since anyone has seen Desirea Ferris. Now, a new podcast about her disappearance is raising some serious questions. Several of her family members want the record to be set straight.

Anatomy of Murder is a podcast that goes in depth on homicide cases across the United States. Last week, they released an episode on Ferris. Comments made by her mother, Patti Tam, have family members questioning everything.

“It’s slowly killing me. Her room is still the same. Everything is still the same. I’ll do whatever I need to do to keep her name out there,” Tam said.

In 2017, the 18-year-old went out with her sister and a group of people, and never came home. On the podcast Anatomy of Murder, Tam talked about her daughter’s case. During the interview Tam is heard saying that night another one of her daughters relapsed on heroin and was involved with drugs the night Ferris was last seen.

Some listened to the podcast and heard what sounded like the group may have done heroin together, when Tam says what could sound like: “shoot ’em up with heroin.” A public relations representative for Audiochuck, which produces Anatomy of Murder, later clarified outside of the episode the transcript reads “shoot him up with heroin,” referring to a specific person in the friend group.

Tam says people misunderstood what she said in the podcast.

“I did not say that. I mean, if something like that were to happen, surely a podcast wouldn’t be the first one I’d tell,” Tam said.

A section of the podcast discussed addiction, drug use, and relapsing. Tam says Ferris and one of her daughters spent time with two men that night. At least one of them was planning to use heroin, and it is unclear how many in the group used.

However, Tam says her words were taken out of context. She says they were talking about theories, and not facts. Tam is pushing to have the podcast removed from the internet.

“We were on the phone for two, two-and-a half plus hours and they consolidated it to 45 minutes,” Tam said.

FOX4 reached out to the hosts of Anatomy of Murder but did not hear back until hours after this story’s initial airing on Monday. A public relations representative for Audiochuck described many listeners’ belief about Tam’s comment as misinformation.

“We are saddened that others are spreading misinformation and bringing additional heartache to the family. From the very beginning our goal has always been to shine a light on Desirea’s story to help the family get answers.”

And now we have more focus on someone who is completely innocent from wrongdoing and her daughter is still missing. Lovely. <sarcasm>

Desi's family posted in her FB group that those remains recently found could be interesting.

Why are they claiming that nobody from the area is missing??? Ray County is the next county to the east from Clay County, where she is from and one diagonal county to the north east from Jackson County where she was last seen. I would say that is from the area. If you look at the Missouri Highway Patrol missing persons list, there are plenty "from the area" that are listed as missing.

I wondered the same thing. I don't know the counties but I know of people missing in Missouri that's for sure. And if they are going by county, why would they do that? A body can be dumped anywhere, doesn't mean the missing person is from that particular county anyhow.

I also like how they say "wooded area" and then say they won't say which one. That county is pretty rural so the whole freeking county could be considered "wooded area" for the most part. Pastures, crops and wooded areas pretty much sums up the entire county. The largest city in it is Richmond and it's probably 5000 people.

That is all you have to tell me to give me a picture of it. Not so different than the counties and area I am in. Or MN or WI in other words. Or MI. Etc. The largest town/city here in the upper part of the state is about 8 or 9 thousand in ONE of them and the rest are far lower population counts in about half the state or at least 1/3 and yes, rural, treed, wooded... Or fields, lakes, rivers and woods... Even though you are near a population center in your state I know you know the rural parts and areas and that our states aren't much different in some respects. Our populated areas here are in the southern part, not the northern half.

One person who came to mind is Echo Lloyd but I am not up on your state or what areas and haven't had a chance to look it up if that would be nearby. Of course Desirea. It does sound skeletal and not fresh and how can they even say there aren't any missing people?? And again, who knows if the remains are even local or the person from the area...

I imagine they are not saying "which" wooded area because quite honestly such things getting out there with the "information highway" doesn't give them their long time (anywhere--I don't mean Missouri) to decide what to share or not, etc. these days before SM or the internet may take it and run with it or speculate if they don't share enough... That's both good and bad. So they say something like this that is likely to bring some pretty big flak on them as to what, no reported missing people??? That wasn't imo a wise thing to say. Of course another that came to mind is that case with Cassie Rainwater and the fact those guys were looking for "victims" at Walmarts etc.... Desirea here. And more I can't think of at the moment.

But yeah, that "no missing people" remark was not a wise one. If they meant recently it was one thing but again this sounds like skeletal remains not a fresh body...

It's a pretty nice area, for the most part. One of the best set ups for rural area, but not having to travel very long to get to anything you need.

Looking a bit at the missing persons list. There are actually two from Richmond that is in Ray County. How can they say there are no locals missing? I mean I am sure they know it's not these people, but it seems a bit disrespectful to the ones actually missing that they said that.

It is/was quite the blunder if you ask me. It was probably meant in some specific way and news maybe took the remark out of context. Still...

‘Could it be her?’ Family of Desirea Ferris on edge after remains found in nearby Ray County

Remains found in Ray County have a Clay County family nervous again.

Desirea Ferris was 18 when she went missing. Every time remains are found, they ask, “Could it be her?”

This past weekend, she drove to Ray County, one county north of where Desirea lived with her biological mom in Liberty. A mushroom hunter found skeletal remains there on April 27.

“Finding something of Desi is better than nothing. Like we have nothing. At this point. We have nothing,” said Ferris.

“The not knowing I know has to be the most difficult thing in the world,” said Ray County Sheriff Scott Childers.

Childers knows the circumstances of Desirea’s disappearance well. He worked for the Clay County Sheriff’s Office when it happened. Court records made public after a search warrant was procured showed that the night she went missing, Desirea was with two older men who had criminal histories.

He said it’s not just Desirae’s family wondering. He’s heard from at least three families. They want answers. He struggles with what to say because skeletal remains require a forensic DNA lab for concrete answers.

“I can’t imagine the struggles that they go through every time remains are found when they’re missing a loved one. But I just think it’d be irresponsible of us to give them false hope or bad information because at this time, really all we have is some guesstimates,” he said.

He said the forensic DNA lab testing is expected to come back in seven weeks.

It seems to vary so widely in various states, counties and even cities as to how quick DNA comes back or a body is confirmed to be that of someone.

My guess is they have a pretty good guess who it can't be or can be, etc. but he doesn't dare say and that is he77 on families I'm sure. Seven weeks. Wow. A long time for a family to wait.

What was the news as to this body I wonder. Just realizing it has been well past the seven weeks.
