Police, firefighters searching Swan Creek near Byrne Road for missing 3-year-old

Toledo Police and Fire & Rescue crews are searching for a 3-year-old boy who went missing at Friday afternoon at Hunter's Ridge Apartments.

According to police, Braylen's mother suspects he fell out of a third-story window.

Crews including divers and K-9 are currently searching in the woods and creek nearby.

TPD, Toledo Fire searching for missing nonverbal 3-year-old

Toledo Police and Fire are searching for a missing 3-year-old boy this afternoon and also are asking for the public's help in locating the missing toddler in south Toledo.
Braylen Noble, 3, was reported missing on Friday from the 3400 block of Gibraltar Heights Drive at the Hunters Ridge apartments. His mother called police to say the boy apparently fell out of a third-floor window and she couldn't find him, police said.

The child last was seen wearing a long-sleeved red and white Mickey Mouse shirt.

Toledo Police and Fire personnel have been searching for the boy since 12:25 p.m. Friday.

Braylen is nonverbal, police said. Toledo Police and Fire personnel are searching the areas of South Byrne Road and Airport Highway, and the area by the apartment complex in the 3400 block of Gibraltar Heights Drive.

Officers and detectives are now conducting door-to-door searches of the entire apartment complex, police said at 2:42 p.m.

Also assisting police and fire personnel with the search are Toledo Metroparks Officers. Teams are conducting an area search of surrounding buildings, dumpsters, under vehicles and more, police say.

Drones have been deployed to assist the search and Toledo Fire and Rescue Department's water rescue unit is also on Swan Creek to help search. K9 units are also being employed to help search.

Police say the child's mother has been taken to the Safety Building as a matter of protocol in such search situations.

I am probably just overthinking (I admit I do that) but something seems off with this case. And I don't just mean the story with the window. Dive teams in a residential swimming pool at an apartment complex? Really? I get perhaps the cloudy thing, etc. but... I know the last one I was at I could see clear to the bottom and every detail and in addition, the deep end is tops of 6 feet. I think that is close to standard for many apartment complexes and this place does not look like it would have anything more grand than that. And the one I was at was open, and clear although with Covid I guess that could vary by state. The pics I have seen look like clear water in the pool. Not exactly sure why that would take a dive team. Glad they searched it don't get me wrong, twice I believe...

Rumors more than once of him being found.

Residents complaining the cops aren't searching but stand there while having someone dive the pool. Area searchers finding a tent, blanket, etc., not LE.

I don't know what it is that is bothering me, I can't put my finger on it other than to say it does not seem like it is being handled as one would expect maybe? Maybe it is the lack of news and it actually is being handled per protocol... Searches so vary in different areas. So locals are searching and sometimes LE does not want that as they could mess up a crime scene etc. I guess maybe that is part of it that throws me....

WHEN was this child last seen independently? How long have they lived there? Did anyone else live with him and his mom that could have staged this and done something? I guess we don't have a right to these answers but...

Here is an example of what I don't understand, why would they quit??

Toledo Fire and Rescue halted assistance with the search around 4 p.m. after searching the entire nearby area.

“At this point, we are starting to de-escalate our presence on the scene. TPD is obviously going to keep doing what they need to do, and we will be there if they need us to continue searching,” said Pvt. Rahe.

Emphasis added by me... So do they know something in another direction that de-escalating and no longer helping with searches is already a thing with him not found yet?

Pools can appear clear at the top but if not properly bring maintained the haze sinks to the bottom, giving the illusion of seeing the bottom but it's actually just the top of the layer of haze you are seeing. They have actually found many drowning victims at the bottom of pools that couldn't be seen from the surface. It happens more than you would think

I can believe that to a point and know of it as well. I am talking about seeing every hole, ridge, the incline from the deep to the shallow on the bottom, the tile, not an illusion from the top, and not a resort pool but apartment pool but even so, I don't think that's what bothers me in this case, I think it is the combo of things, I don't know and the pool is just a tiny part of it. It is probably nothing but the entire thing seems handled a bit strangely or maybe it is some of the remarks... Or wording... I am probably overthinking and it is probably just me. Or lack of media accuracy and wording of some things even by LE. I am looking too hard probably.

That was a properly maintained pool. That's the way they should be. Many complexes have closed their pools thus year so there will be many more of them this year that you can't see the actual bottom

Everything about this story bothers me

It was just the fire department that ended their search. The police department and other independent search teams continued searching well beyond 4pm.

Friday search:

Toledo PD and Toledo Fire "scoured" the apartment complex.
K9 searches around the apartment complex, in the woods, and near the nearby Swan Creek.
Dive team in the pool.
Fire Department's water rescue unit searching Swan Creek.
Officers on foot in a nearby wooded area.
Drone searches from above.

Saturday search:

Toledo Metroparks Officers assisting with searches of surrounding buildings including attics, dumpsters, inside and under vehicles.
K9 units back at Swan Creek area
K9 units in surrounding woods
Volunteer searches of wooded area and along Swan Creek, and areas surrounding apartments.

The young child’s mother walked with dozens of community members- searching for any sign of her son.

The mother of missing Braylen searched nearby wooded areas with a team of volunteers until the sunset Saturday evening.

True. It also though is covered when not open and locked, the only time one sees it uncovered and not open is when they drain it, they do not leave it open and murky full of water--for obvious reasons I guess. However, I guess comparing their maintenance to somewhere else is a waste of thought.

I have a feeling this child has perhaps been missing longer than it seems is where I am leaning and/or if disposed of (hurts to say that) would likely have been taken out of the immediate area... Total guess on my part though...

Yes, I guess it is that in the same article the FD sounded more like search and rescue as if they do more of it then the PD so leaving made me wonder... Also, I admit I think it is the wording of some things that is catching my attention... It went from a diver in the pool to dive teams in articles... A few other things and remarks...

I admit I am overanalyzing. :D

when all the chemicals are in balance and filter/pump working correctly in my pool, the water is almost magnifying and nearly every speck of dirt is visible at the bottom, but to be totally fair, mine is only 4 ft but a lot of apartment pools are no deeper or not much.

Yeah pretty sure the one at our apartment complex is 6 foot and that is a graduation so only a bit of it is that deep. I think it is probably a pretty typical depth and size for a complex. I guess it makes it hard for me to picture, you can see every spot clearly from any spot you are standing. They drain it each year and cover it and in the spring you will see it uncovered with leaves accumulating and a bit of water at the bottom from rain (not from fill), and other than that it is not accessible except when maintained.

I did not mean to take this into pools, I think picturing the one I know and then hearing dive teams just made it difficult for me to reconcile two searches particularly and dive teams.

To bring it to another thought though maybe more relevant is I was majorly surprised when first seeing the one at the complex that it was unlocked outside and honest to goodness children who walked from a block away (nonresidents) accessed it through the grounds/yard. They since changed that but it shows how states and complexes can vary I guess.

So that is another thing, we need a key to go through an interior room to get outside to the pool now. No 3 year old would do that. The case is Ohio though so who knows how the pool set-up is but most insurance companies would not be happy with wide open unlocked access.

I checked here a few time but saw no thread for Braylen, now there is one. This says there is an FBI coordinated search today and now they are asking people not to search the woods... Unless I missed it, this is the first I heard of the FBI brought in...

Also, I keep noticing below these windows is a very small patch of grass, if he fell or jumped he would be lucky not to hit asphalt or concrete, although I guess it possible their unit faced another direction with perhaps all grass or something... It also appears to be a two and a half level complex with the bottom units possibly being basement apartments, still a big jump for a three year old or anyone...

I don't think this one has been posted. Good video and read. The mother has the support of the community searchers and residents thus far it seems and is searching herself. I will say that. In that way it is different than the very recent other case of Maliyah...

He will be 4 in November.

Thank you, I never caught the age in months. That makes sense. He looks fairly tall his leg length in that chair. Still was wearing diapers or pull ups and nonverbal but it changes what I think a bit in terms of his agility and what he could maybe reach, how far he could travel say if left alone outside....
