‘Today’ show host Savannah Guthrie’s mother is missing in Arizona and authorities suspect crime

The disappearance of the 84-year-old mother of “Today” show host Savannah Guthrie over the weekend is being investigated as a crime based on what authorities saw at her home, an Arizona sheriff said Monday.

Asked to explain why investigators believe the Tucson-area home is a crime scene, Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos said Nancy Guthrie has limited mobility and said there were other things indicating she did not leave on her own, but he declined to further elaborate.

“I need this community to step up and start giving us some calls,” Nanos said during a news conference.

The sheriff said Guthrie, who lived alone, was of sound mind.

“This is not dementia related. She’s as sharp as a tack. The family wants everyone to know that this isn’t someone who just wandered off,” Nanos said, adding that she needs her daily medication.

Guthrie was last seen around 9:30 p.m. Saturday at her home in the Tucson area and her family reported her missing around noon Sunday, the sheriff said.

Nanos said a family member received a call from someone at church saying Guthrie wasn’t there, leading family to search for her at her home and then calling 911.

“From what the family’s told us and everything we’ve learned, she could not walk out of that home 50 yards. We believe she was taken out of the home against her will, and that’s how this investigation is moving,” the sheriff told NBC’s Tom Llamas.

On Monday morning, Nanos said search crews worked hard but have since been pulled back.

“We don’t see this as a search mission so much as it is a crime scene,” the sheriff said.

Even so, a sheriff’s helicopter flew over the desert Monday afternoon near Guthrie’s home in the affluent Catalina Foothills area on the northern edge of Tucson. Her brick home has a gravel driveway and a yard covered in Prickly Pear and Saguaro cactus.

Savannah Guthrie issued a statement on Monday, NBC’s “Today” show reported.

“On behalf of our family, I want to thank everyone for the thoughts, prayers and messages of support,” she said. “Right now, our focus remains on the safe return of our dear Nancy.”

That took me to a picture of her cat, and below that something about border crossings.

They may have someone there, I don't know. I did actually say that the FOX one which I linked, had some things I found interesting, in their thing about the family messages particularly and they did have the video of flashes in Annie's garage. I'm not a big MSM fan or follower, so wouldn't likely know or see if they are there, but I know overall, they don't send people out like some others do. To scenes. Unless and until... They don't cover just crime for one thing.
It's certainly funny when considering that flashing lights in a garage are interesting LOL.

The physical exchange of Nancy I was talking about.
Per TMZ, who leaks all, they said in the first note, that after they were paid, how long it would take to get her back to Tucson which TMZ was doing a map of how far away that could mean she was, including MX. Which I thought ridiculous since it was likely a lie and they might be right in Tucson. So I took that to mean they pay by bitcoin and within some hours Nancy will be back. No personal physical exchange. Which is actually pretty smart imo.

What's the stuff about gas stations? I must have missed that.
Supposedly they asked a gas station to see their video, first I heard looking for a car, then I heard a person... An employee leaked it, and thought it was related to this investigation although that was not said is the way I take it. They assumed it.

That could all be misdirection or it could just be following up on everything.

There seems to me to be a big focus on cars here and garages, etc. At both nancy's and Annie's. I think they are trying to verify the story maybe?

Presuming you trust what the kidnapper (a criminal) is saying, yeah that's all fine and dandy but be prepared to lose $6 mill and no Nancy.

I would like to know. It could save me some time clicking on worthless links that have no explanation what they are.
Exactly. I say under some videos on YT even in comments, just another rehash, regurgitation of same old things, and people thank me and say they now don't have to waste their time. If someone is following things a bit closely, then it gets old where every video or piece of news coverage that has clickbait or not, is what they've always heard a thousand times elsewhere.

That's all I've found CNN's to be. And I DID look at the first few linked here. It was a waste of time.

Yeah, I can't think of much reason for that that could be good or innocent... To me, I already said it, but there is a focus on the cars, the garages, etc. at both places. And cameras of course.

I agree. I also think the person doing the anonymous notes could be someone far closer to them all. Hard to say.

But yeah, that is IF the ransom notes are even not a hoax...

I can only guess they received proof of some kind that they have her, whether dead or alive. If not, then they are not wise to pay imo. Although I am not going to say I wouldn't, if I had it, in such a situation, I might? Not sure.

‘We will pay,’ Nancy Guthrie’s children say to possible captors as search enters 8th day

What we're covering

• Family says “we will pay”: Missing Nancy Guthrie’s children posted a new plea for their mother’s return on social media, with “Today” host Savannah Guthrie saying, “we will pay.” Purported ransom notes had demanded millions in Bitcoin in exchange for her return and a second deadline is approaching on Monday.

• No suspects: There have been no suspects named as the search for Guthrie enters its eighth day. Law enforcement officials were seen at the home of Guthrie’s daughter Annie late Saturday, one day after drone footage showed deputies and agents searching the missing woman’s property.

• New ransom note details emerge: Guthrie’s purported abductor or abductors are demanding $6 million by Monday’s deadline of 5 p.m., CNN affiliate KGUN reported, citing a ransom note the station received. The note includes a threat to Guthrie’s life if the deadline isn’t met, according to KGUN.

• Officials continue investigating second note sent Friday: Authorities say they’re still looking into the authenticity of a second note sent to CNN affiliate KOLD on Friday about Guthrie. The note, which mentioned no deadline, included sensitive information, according to a KOLD anchor.

Well if it is true, the ransom note/kidnapper, and not a hoax, and they are truly paying by the deadline tomorrow, we should know by Tuesday I'd say at latest whether she was returned home, if not sooner.

I am NOT a fan of this channel but for what it's worth, sharing it, first I knew of them being there live was last night. Maybe they have been all along but not that I'm aware of.

Live now.

I can't take this guy but watched a bit. They are all being so intrusive in these neighborhoods imo. I like coverage and believe it helps transparency but there is too much at times, and lines that I think should be respected. And they have a drone up.

It wouldn't be so bad if some of them didn't jump on every little thing and to conclusions. I don't like his chat either, people just jump to conclusions too. BUT he's on it live. So I linked it.

Stupid channel, stupid chat. But he's there. Sheriff's department, two vehicles are at a home not far from Nancy's that seems to be empty or no one home...

Not a ton of LE but two...

I'm only watching as it's live. I'm going to see if Entin is covering and what he is saying...

You lost me there? The family doesn't have to give the kidnapper proof of anything, the kidnapper has to give the family proof of life. There's no reason they'd take pictures to send the kidnappers.
That would be proof. Eg if Nancy told the kidnappers that Annie had such and such in her lounge for example and the kidnappers relayed that detail to the the family, that could be proof they had Nancy. If they photographed that item and returned it to the kidnapper via their secure internet link. That could be the confirmation they would send the bit coin.

I switched to Gigi. She is so good, respected. Her chat is friendly and sane.

She isn't on the ground there but is monitoring the local and federal websites, the Twitter and all sorts of things, and the lives from there. She will not name someone a suspect who hasn't been named by LE. It's so much a better watch.

STS is going live soon as well.

You don't say? What's the latest news then?
If you click on it, it with two you.

How would that be proof of life? It could just mean the person that said it was there had been in there before.

If Nancy said Annie had something in her lounge to prove they had Nancy, the family wouldn't take pictures to send him, they'd say OK no one else could know that and you're right and that's proof to us. If you see what I'm saying? They have no reason to prove it to the kidnappers, it is the other way around.
