Turquoise Alert issued for 8-year-old girl missing from Navajo Nation

A Turquoise Alert has been issued for an 8-year-old girl reported missing from Coalmine, Arizona, located on the Navajo Nation.

Maleeka “Mollie” Boone was reportedly last seen between 4 and 6 p.m. on Thursday, January 15. She was playing in the Coalmine NHA Housing Area, according to the Navajo Police Department. She has not been seen since.

"Her family is concerned for her welfare since it is out of character for her to be gone for an extended period of time," Arizona Department of Public Safety officials say.

Coconino County Sheriff’s Office says it is assisting the Navajo Nation “through a coordinated, multi-disciplinary response that leverages search and rescue teams, criminal investigation detectives, CERT teams, and patrol deputies, along with advanced technology.”

The Navajo Police Department has issued a Turquoise Alert for a girl who was last seen on the afternoon of Jan. 15.

According to officials with the Arizona Department of Public Safety, 8-year-old Maleeka "Mollie" Boone was last seen, on foot, at around 6:00 p.m. on Cedar Loop in the Coalmine NHA housing area in Coalmine.

"She is believed to be wearing a red jacket, blue jeans and cowboy boots. She has not been seen or heard from since," read a portion of DPS's statement. "Her family is concerned for her welfare since it is out of character for her to be gone for an extended period of time."

Coalmine is south of even Tuscon, close to Nogales which is Mexico... It is basically right on the border or very close. I just mention that because it could be someone on the reservation if it is foul play but they also are near that area of the border.

Praying they find her safe.

Coalmine is in northern AZ.

"Coalmine NHA Housing is about 18 miles southeast of Tuba City, along State Highway 264."

Low temp of 23 tonight.

Okay. Here is what I found and it pointed me to the south at first. You can see the problem. There are two Coalmine Canyons, a Coalmine Mesa, etc. What I first saw was only the one south of Tuscon. I see now it is north to be on the reservation. Yeah, it will be cold there then at night and early morn too. Even days quite possibly.

I can delete that post if you think I should. I truly googled it and it showed me that southern location only at first, now I looked further. This should show them all.

Yeah that's a lot colder. Been to AZ many a time and north too. Sedona, Flagstaff, Grand Canyon. And others.

I just went by what the article said.
No need to delete it. We've got the correct info here anyway.

Okay. Just would delete if you thought best.

I just googled Coalmine AZ. For all the times I've been to the state and to many an area in it, I'd never heard of it so when the south location came up, I had no reason to think it was wrong. After your post I went back and expanded the map and saw the reservation was north and that there were other Coalmines.

Okay. Anyhow...

Oh no!

Not sounding like she drowned or anything like that. Getting the impression it was a crime. Unfortunately thought that from the start... An 8 year old is usually smart enough not to get in too much trouble or danger like cliffs or water if lost, etc... They found her quickly...

Will wait for the inevitable details and cause, not looking forward to.

I don't know why so many parents have not realized you just can't let your children play alone these days or even with just other children for that matter. Assuming of course that was the case. This also could be closer to home...

I can't even imagine what the total count of children is per year. I don't want to know.

Rest in peace Maleeka.

Lockdown on the area sounds a bit foreboding.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation is offering a reward for information in connection with the death of a young girl on the Navajo Nation last week.

On Thursday, the FBI announced a $25,000 reward for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person(s) responsible for her death.

Anyone with information is asked to call the FBI’s toll-free tipline at 1-800-CALL-FBI (1-800-225-5324) or their local FBI field office. Tips can also be submitted online at tips.fbi.gov.

The FBI is offering a reward for information in the death of 8-year-old Mollie Boone.

Left the home of one family member to return home. Both in the same area and in vicinity of each other.

I was hoping they were onto someone but NOW they offer a reward? Not that that's bad, just makes me wonder if they aren't sure who did this as I was hoping they were.

Recent article too, so I assume the reward is recent.

Of course more evidence is always good... Maybe it will result in that but rarely have I seen rewards work.

It would seem to me unless she got in a car with someone, was taken by force or did not go right home as it appears was expected, that this lies pretty darned close to home. Or the relative, or someone close.

They aren't sharing much, even if death was a homicide but sure appears that way.

My guess is that they have a VERY good idea of who is responsible. This isn't a huge, bustling city. It's a tiny, remote community. That was literally put on "lockdown" after she was found. Unless it was a crime of opportunity, the suspects are going to be quite few. Looking for "more" is my best guess. And hope.

Mine too honestly. And it makes sense.
