Turquoise Alert issued for 8-year-old girl missing from Navajo Nation

A Turquoise Alert has been issued for an 8-year-old girl reported missing from Coalmine, Arizona, located on the Navajo Nation.

Maleeka “Mollie” Boone was reportedly last seen between 4 and 6 p.m. on Thursday, January 15. She was playing in the Coalmine NHA Housing Area, according to the Navajo Police Department. She has not been seen since.

"Her family is concerned for her welfare since it is out of character for her to be gone for an extended period of time," Arizona Department of Public Safety officials say.

Coconino County Sheriff’s Office says it is assisting the Navajo Nation “through a coordinated, multi-disciplinary response that leverages search and rescue teams, criminal investigation detectives, CERT teams, and patrol deputies, along with advanced technology.”

The Navajo Police Department has issued a Turquoise Alert for a girl who was last seen on the afternoon of Jan. 15.

According to officials with the Arizona Department of Public Safety, 8-year-old Maleeka "Mollie" Boone was last seen, on foot, at around 6:00 p.m. on Cedar Loop in the Coalmine NHA housing area in Coalmine.

"She is believed to be wearing a red jacket, blue jeans and cowboy boots. She has not been seen or heard from since," read a portion of DPS's statement. "Her family is concerned for her welfare since it is out of character for her to be gone for an extended period of time."

My guess is that they have a VERY good idea of who is responsible. This isn't a huge, bustling city. It's a tiny, remote community. That was literally put on "lockdown" after she was found. Unless it was a crime of opportunity, the suspects are going to be quite few. Looking for "more" is my best guess. And hope.
VERY few houses right there. Nearly guaranteed that if it was someone there, the family knows them.

Missing Navajo girl found dead may have been hit by car, FBI says

Federal investigators released a new theory Wednesday of what happened to a missing 8-year-old from the Navajo Nation who was found dead last month.

The FBI now says 8-year-old Maleeka “Mollie” Boone was likely struck by a vehicle on the evening of Jan. 15. Investigators believe the driver may have hit the girl without realizing it and may have been in a larger vehicle, possibly a pickup truck.

Mollie was last seen playing around 6 p.m. Jan. 15 near Cedar Loop in the Coalmine Navajo Housing Authority area, about 17 miles southeast of Tuba City. Investigators believe she was walking home when a passing driver hit her.

A Turquoise Alert was issued the next morning and her body was found shortly after that in a field in the Coalmine Navajo Housing Authority neighborhood at 8:30 a.m.

Authorities are asking for anyone who may have information on the cars that were traveling on Cedar Loop Road within the Coalmine area between 5:50 p.m. and 6:20 p.m. on Jan. 15 to call the FBI at 1-800-CALL-FBI (1-800-225-5324) or submit a tip online at tips.fbi.gov.

The FBI is offering a $25,000 reward for information.

I hate to say it, but alcoholism runs rampant in those areas. The person that supposedly hit her might not have even been aware of it and so used to scrapes and dents on their vehicles, they might not even notice a new one (much experience with drunks and their vehicles are more often than not full of "unexplained" dents and dings)
