Mother of 12-year-old missing from Chickasha pleads for son's return

The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation has joined the search for 12-year-old R.D. Jr., who has been missing from Chickasha for almost a week, with his disappearance now deemed suspicious.

"When it gets to a point where it's multiple days and we're still not sure what, where this boy had gone, it's suspicious," said Hunter McKee, OSBI public information officer.

D. was last seen near Fourth Street and Grand Avenue in Chickasha last Friday. As the days pass without answers, law enforcement is intensifying their efforts to locate him.

"There's a lot of unsolved questions about, you know, where he exactly, not only where he is, but why he is missing at this time," McKee said.

The OSBI stepped in on Wednesday to assist the Chickasha Police Department in investigating the suspicious disappearance.

"When we're talking about a young boy who is missing and has been missing for multiple days, there's not too many resources that you can use," McKee said.

D's mother, Kim Cole, said she is grateful for the community's support and pleaded for her son's return.

"I want to thank everybody that has helped and anybody that wants to continue to help. It's needed and wanted. We just want our son back home. We want him back," she said.

Law enforcement officials are urging the community to assist in the search for D.

"We are still taking tips. We're taking calls. We're doing everything we can to advise the people here in town and on the outskirts that if you see this boy, know of where he might have been, to please contact us," McKee said.

The OSBI said that they believe D is still alive and will continue their search for him.

Different charges listed here...

His parents, George Cole, 43, and Kimberly Cole, 33, are in the Caddo County Jail after being arrested late Wednesday. George Cole faces a conspiracy charge, while Kimberly Cole faces a charge of crimes against nature.

From before her arrest...

R's mom, Kim Cole, sent a text to News 9 saying she believes R ran away on the night of January 2nd and that this isn’t the first time. She added that he previously ran away to a relative’s house.

That relative filed a protective order against Kim on Monday. Kim cited the reason for it as stalking and making threats, which she denied – saying she hasn’t spoken with the relative in more than a year.

When asked what might have led him to run away this time, Kim said she doesn’t have any inclination because he was “doing really well.” She said R doesn’t have a cellphone and is home-schooled.

R;s aunt, Savanna Burgess, did not want to show her face on camera, but spoke with News 9 on behalf of his mom, who was interviewing with law enforcement.

“His mom’s very heartbroken. She’s not being able to sleep. Hardly can’t eat. She’s crying all the time. She’s going out, screaming his name, just bawling her eyes out. She just wants him back home,” Burgess shared.

If R is listening or watching, his aunt wants him to know this:

“He’s not going to be in trouble. We want him home. He’s safe where he is. We got wide open, loving arms just waiting on him.”

OSBI said it has checked out leads, and R’s disappearance remains suspicious. The agency added that it is still holding out hope he is alive.

Isn't past 11 p.m. past curfew for a 12 year old?. In this day and age. Mine would not be allowed out that late. At 12, my curfew was much earlier, and there were creepy things happening then. A man tried to lure me with candy around age 5. I was almost abducted on my way to school when I was 13. A man tried to lure me to give me a ride to school. I was 2 blocks away. Said no. He opened the door. Was going to grab me. He moved closer. I ran through peoples yards to school. I'm just saying this because 2 incidents 1 in the 70's. One in the 80's. In a quiet safe suburb. It seems to be happening more now. IMO. Seems to me. Under the cover of night is the perfect time for a predator. I hope they find this boy safe. He's only 4'11, 85 lbs. Couldn’t put up much of a fight. I hate to think that way. But, It doesn't appear he ran away. I actually hope he did. Will come to his senses and go home.

Sorry for the description but it is the charge. I don't have time right now to look further but I'd imagine it could also apply to children...

Oklahoma's "Crime Against Nature" law (Title 21, § 886) criminalizes certain sexual acts considered unnatural, including bestiality or sodomy with mankind, punishable by up to 10 years in prison and post-imprisonment supervision, with specific statutes defining the necessary penetration for the offense. While historically applying broadly, a 1986 court decision limited its enforcement between consenting adults, though the law itself remains on the books and generally covers non-procreative sexual acts, often involving animals or non-consensual acts, with potential felony charges.

I agree but who knows if he truly left? Parents could be lying.

Hunter McKee, the public information officer for the OSBI, said Thursday morning during a press conference that the parents were arrested on multiple child abuse complaints.

"We do believe he is still alive at this time and we are doing everything we can to locate him," McKee said.

"These arrests are just one step, but the ultimate goal is to locate the child," McKee said.

Chickasha Police Chief Goebel Music said during a press conference on Thursday that "this child will not be going back to that home."

McKee said conversations with George Cole and Kimberly Cole led to their arrests after it was determined there was apparent abuse happening.

"It was deemed not a safe environment for him, that's why these two parents are behind bars at this time," McKee said, later saying investigators aren't sure if the "harm done by these parents is the reason the boy went missing."

The District Attorney's Office will have the ultimate say in formal charges against the parents.

Home schooled AND a child with steel toed boots that doesn't live on a farm and is too young to legally work in an industry that requires them is a bit odd. Now we add the parents have been arrested. Poor kid.

I have a strong feeling that this was "punishment" that was taken too far and I'm not convinced one way or another if he did take off and is in hiding or if the parents punished him literally to death.

I hope if he is alive he hears this, that he will NOT be going back to that home as it would likely be the reason he left--if that in fact is what happened.

During a news conference Thursday, OSBI officials and the Chickasha Police Department said they believe D is still alive and that they are following numerous leads. The Chickasha police chief added that the 12-year-old boy would not be placed back into his parents' care.

I figured that was what crimes against nature meant. They were again her and not the stepfather... That part of the charges.

I hope he is found safe and they find him a very nice home/parents and some major therapy. POOR kid, this is awful.

I know that the charges / arrest records are public knowledge. And I'm glad they've put out there that he will NOT have to return home. But I do worry that the sexual abuse charges are public already. If he sees that, and knows that people know what's been happening to him, that could drive him to hide further.

Btw, the quality inn is at 1st and e grand . Not 4th.

Were they living at the hotel or is that just the area he was last seen after he took off? Not very many residences very close that spot. Mostly businesses.

True. Let's hope not. The fact they are charged and he will go to someone else may reassure him.

I'm hoping they find him pretty quickly I mean where can a 12 year old go to eat, sleep, anything? The street, friends or family. Not even sure he has any way of seeing this, they said they didn't let him have a phone. So he may know nothing. And not come in as he has seen no news. That's just as worrisome to me.

I suspect they were living at the hotel in response to the other most recent post. Most likely.

Just catching up with one post.

Came up as 4th for me.
But I do wonder if he was seen there (living there), or if they maybe have a camera on the parking lot / street.

Oh no. So hope is pretty much gone. That's terrible.
